Ok, well, I finished the book last night. It was funny and easy to read. A great book, I recommend it to everyone! But, it's crazy, I didn't realize the part in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where they float up to the top of the ceiling and have to burp to come down....that's not in the book! I haven't seen that movie in awhile, and, I thought I owned it, but, I don't. Ugh. Oh, well. I was going to watch it last night. Anyway, I'm going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tonight, and, I'll be sure to review it when I can. :) So, if you have read the book or seen the film with Gene wilder, let me know what you thought, especially if you've done both. :)

Sorry, I've done neither, but I did read that Roald Dahl was not impressed with the Gene Wilder film.

Yeah, I remember hearing that Dahl wasn't impressed. And, I just finished the book, as I said, and, realized how different it was from the Gene Wilder movie. The book does have a darker side, and, Roald Dahl himself was a little creepy (in my opinion), in a good way. ;) I did read one review of the new film, saying it was good, but, that Depp took inspiration from Michael Jackson! The article says that Depp says that isn't the case, but, apparently he moonwalks at one point, catches his hair on fire in the movie and also dangles Charlie out of a window. Weird. So, we'll see! I do know that at least the Oompa Loompas will be more like the book describes them.

I'll have to read the book. Is it by Roald Dahl? I've seen the old movie and I love it. I will see the new one but I don't really know what to expect.

I tryed to read the book several times and forsed myself to finish it once. The movie on the other hand, was hilarious! "Chewing gum is really gross. Chewing gum I hate the most!"

Well, here's my review, for the couple that are interested. ;) I need to watch the original again, as an adult, it's been a very long time. I know I always hated the Oompa-Loompas in the original film. That much I remember. But, as for the book, it's a children's book, so, it was easy as pie to read. Fairly large print and a quick read, nothing too hard (a much needed reading vacation, considering I was just last week reading "Crime and Punishment", yikes). The book is really funny, I definitely liked it.

The new movie is, in a lot of ways SPOT ON with the book, I think Roald Dahl would have liked this new movie. Johnny Depp did a great job as Willy Wonka, with the high voice and the silliness and and weirdness. :) Willy in the book is really bouncy, he skips everywhere, he talks in a high voice, is easily excitable, etc. There are a lot of things taken straight out of the book. The Oompa-Loompas were very small, like in the book.....I was kinda hoping they'd dress them in loin cloth, jungle clothes like the book, but, they did do all the songs verbatim from the book, each time a child was lost. ;)

the ending is, at first, different, and, i was going to be seriously bummed if that didn't change. But, it did, and, I was once again, HAPPY!!! They delve into Willy's past, which is a totally untouched subject, and, is a new twist, it was cool, though.

I thought the movie was excellent, Johnny Depp is absolutely mesmerizing, that man can play any role! But, the movie really is about Charlie, and, that Hightower (I think that's his name) from Finding Neverland, is just perfect. All the other kids are great as their awful characters, too. It's a visually stimulating movie, and, was so much fun to watch. :)

I saw a preview for Tim Burton's next film, The Corpse Bride! It looks great, too. Another claymation film, like The Nightmare Before Christmas, I think it's coming out in September or December....I can't remember, there were so many previews.

I know! It may have been in a sneak peek or something, and, it got taken out. I was looking for that stuff, too, when I read that guy's review.

Yeah, it's Roald Dahl. If you read the book, you'll know what to expect with the new movie. The original was nothing like the book, but, the new one is a lot like it. Both movies are excellent, but, for totally different reasons.

I just saw the new film last weekend :p

I have not read the book and I do not remember much of the old film but the new one is quite entertaining :)

I wonder what they are going to remake next.
The Wizard of Oz perhaps?

I've seen Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilder), Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (by Tim Burton) and read the book :p
I didn't like the old movie that much at all, because they changed ALOT of parts & left out alot of parts. But the new movie, by Tim Burton, is soo good! Its one of the best movies I've ever seen :p I loved it.

I wouldn't want them to remake the Wizard of Oz, but, I do think it would be cool to do new movies based on the books. I mean, some of the stuff would be brought up again (of course, Dorothy, Toto, The Scarecrow, etc...). But, there are so many characters and stories that never get touched on in the Wizard, and, I think it'd be cool to see some films done on the Oz books. I did like The Return to Oz with Faruza balk, because it brought out some of the characters in the books...but, still not all of them. I loved the books!

That's pretty much how I feel, except I did like the Gene Wilder version, too. It's so different from the book, though, I know the author hated it. I think Roald Dahl would have liked Burton's film, though, as it definitely stayed truer to the book. It is one of my favorite films in awhile, too. So much fun!

I really enjoyed the remake, mainly due to Johnny Depp. Love that guy. But I did miss the Oompa Loompa song from the original movie.

On the Wizard of Oz remake, I hope they don't. You can't improve on perfection and knowing Hollywood, they'd try to use like a Jack Russell instead of a Cairn for Toto. And that would be so wrong. :)

Anything that stars Johnny Depp has got to be good, yep you are right Kari that man can act any part, my Melissa is going to see it with a friend on Wednesday night, so will be interesting to see what she thinks of it, I will wait for the video release as I have seen the Original with Gene wilder, and it is not really my kind of movie, but I will watch anything Johnny is in, looking forward to the Corpse Bride too.

I haven't seen it yet but I've been curious about it, I heard it was supposed to be darker. I haven't read the book but I've seen the original movie. I think the original movie was made in an era where "dark" movies weren't so much the thing and so they made it lighter, more of a family movie. I'll have to see this one, I'm even more curious now :)

I did like The Return to Oz with Faruza balk,
Faruza Balk was in return to Oz? *Runs out to get a copy*

I loved the new Charlie and the chocolate factory, JD did a wonderful job as Willy Wonka, and all of the kids realy played their charactors well. I have watched most of the old Gene Wilder version and was enjoying it until the DVD died on me, i have another copy on order. And i may have read the book when i was a kid, i dont realy remember. I will try and find a copy and read it.
