Keegan is going to follow in the GREAT DIXIE'S footsteps and get spayed on Thursday. I know she will do just fine, the challenge will be for her not to run and jump with those stitches in! :(
I will hopefully be able to go and pick her up on Friday and since I have the day off I can spend the day pampering and spoiling her!
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

We'll be thinking of her. Here's to having an easy surgery and a quick recovery, Keegan baby. I know this has to be a bit of a worry as is any time that our kids have to have a procedure.

Sweet Keegan,
Mommies kind of worry when their babies are getting surgery. It's only because we love you so much. Be a good girl and listen to your mommy and don't jump around too much until the stitches come out.
Dixie did fine after a couple of days and she wants you to know that your momma is being much braver than her was. Her mom was a basket case. Especially when she was told she couldn't pick her baby up until the next day!
Speedy recovery to you dear Keegan!

Good luck Keegan....you'll be fine....just don't run and jump on beds like our poochies always do when they get home from the doctor.

Wow! You are already old enough to get spayed! Time has gone by so quickly.
I am sure you will be just fine and have a speedy recovery. Drake was his ole self that very evening.
When you guys say stiches, do you mean external stiches like people stiches? Drake had sutures and you couldn't even see them. There was nothing to take out! The vet told us that the type of sutures he gave Drake were almost jump, lick, and bite proof!

Thank you everyone! It helps to know that everyone is pulling for us and that everyone loves us! I think I may go to Walmart before I go and pick her up on Fri. She has been de-sqeaking her toys and I think she needs a few more stuffies to make her feel better! Candy, I think the reason I am so calm about this is b/c she is so young and hasn't had any puppies yet. I knew before I even decided on what kind of dog I wanted to get I would definately have it spayed. Even tho she is a purebred, I just am not educated enough on puppy raising nor do I have the time, finances, or space. After reading the last issue of Dog Fancy and it had an article about the good that breeders do for different breeds. Only passing on the desired traits, etc. And I think I will leave that job up to the professionals, Like you! ;)I think that you bred Dixie and thought it through and did a wonderful job. And I also think you did a wonderful thing for Dixie that will keep her with you for a good long time!

And be a good little girl sweet Keegan Grace.
Don't worry your mommy too much by jumping up and down like all puppies like to do;) You'll have time for that in just a couple of days again.

I know you're going to do just fine Keegan Girl. And when you get home, try not to jump up and pull apart your zipper!;) Hopefully Mom's trip to the Stuffie Store will keep you busy and occupied; quietly on the floor:) We'll be thinking of you Staci and your baby Golden girl!

Good luck, Keegan!! We'll be thinking about you tomorrow. Hoping all goes well.
Good luck Keegster!! I'm going to sign on AIM and see if your mommy is online worrying herself to death.
Don't worry, I see dozens of animals have the surgery every week and many of them are a lot younger than you! It helps to be a youngin because you'll come out of the anesthesia a lot faster.
Souraya - I see some vets give stictches that have to be removed but some give the dissolvable sutures. It looks a lot less messy when they are the internal kind of sutures!

Well, I just got home from dropping her off!
I was sad for her, I felt bad that she didn't get to eat/drink anything. When we got up this morning, she went straight to her water dish and it wasn't there and she turned and looked at me and was like "MOOOOOOOOMMMMM!" Now Kylie isn't sure where she is! She was so excited to go w/ Dr. McClung that she didn't even give me a second glance! Humph!
I'll get an update later today, and will post tonight and then let you know how she is tomorrow.
Staci you and Keegan will definitely be in my thoughts today! I can't believe that she is such a "big girl" now, already being spayed! Where does the time go!! Trevor and Andy say to tell Kylie to enjoy the "quiet time" today. :) They were quite pleased when Bella had her surgery. There was no puppy saliva on their fur until the next day when she was more like her old self! ;)

Can't wait to have her home! Tho Kylie does like the quiet time. ;)

Is she home yet? How is she doing? Mom is probably spending all her time pampering baby Keegan and no where near a computer. I know that's how I was!

Keegan is home!! :D She was sooooo happy to see me that she peed! She was pretty quiet on the way home thank goodness! She was pretty content to sit in the seat and let me pet her. She peed when we were outside the vet's office in their field and once when we got home and pooped once too. She is drinking and is eating her food that I put a small can of wet food in for her. She isn't eating much of her dry food. I think Kylie even missed her! She has a small incision, I am going to be on pins and needles for the next 10 days until stitches are out. I am so afraid that it will herniate. My aunt's dog did that. :( Katie is fine, but has a really hard belly.
Unfortunately, Logan I have to work this weekend along with a party to attend so I won't be able to pamper her all that much, but I do have Fri and Mon off, and the time I will be with her I will be pampering her and spoiling her! I kinda planned it this way, so I could have the day off s/p surgery, so I could stay with her, and not leave her all alone the first night. I would love to spend the weekend with my girls but unfortunatley it can't be helped.

She is doing pretty good. Pretty quiet but I know that will change the better she feels. She has a had a couple accidents, which I anticipated since she was away from home last night and it threw off her schedule.

Keegan sounds like she's doing fine. I'm so happy
that all went well with the surgery !
If you are anything like me you always feel better
yourself if you can see them eat something & keep
it down after being away from you. Does she usually
have the dry food or a mix of wet & dry?
I wouldn't worry if she's 'off her feed' for a day or
two & not entice her to eat if she doesn't want to
have it plain (if that's what she is used to).
Might help eliminate the accidents in the house
if she's given a day or two to get over the effects
of the drugs and just being away from home during
her procedure. I'm sure that Beautiful little girl will
be just fine in a few days. Easy for me to say, right?
btw, I love the Keegan pic in your signature.

Keegan, I am so glad to hear that everything went OK and you are back with your loving momma. You're such a cutie pie :)
I could hardly believe it when I heard that you were getting spayed. What a big girl you are! That just amazes me at how fast those puppies grow up.
Staci, good luck keeping Keegan inactive for the next week. It's not easy to do with a puppy, I know!
Kisses to Keegan and Kylie :)
BTW, Staci, what does Keegan weigh now? Just curious.

She is definately feeling better today!

Where does the time go? She's bigger then Graham now :) I can't believe how time flies by. It's just amazing. I can only picture her as a tiny, fuzzy puppy, not a maturing 47 pound girl!
So glad Ms. Keegan is feeling back to her old, frisky self :)

WoW!!!! 47 pounds. I agree with everyone else, time sure is flying. How old is our baby Keegan now? I'm glad she is doing better. It will be time to take the stitches out before you know it.
I liked Sandra's advice, Keegan don't unzip your zipper!!! LOL

She is 5 months now.
Saturday after work she was doing fine, then when I had to leave I noticed she had a little diarrhea. I put her in the crate and when I cam home my poor baby had had diarrhea all over the crate. Then she was trying to clean it up by eating it so when I came home she was vomiting and retching. She felt so bad she would just look at me with her head down with these big sad eyes that were just killing me. I felt so bad, like the worst mother/pet owner ever. She reeks now and they told me not to give her a bath b/c of the stitches, and a "spit bath" won't cut it. Don't know what I am going to do with that.
I am afraid she may have broke a few stitches inside with her vomiting and retching. I had to go to work Sunday, no way around it at all, I had this huge guilt complex the whole time b/c I was thinking she would have made another mess in the crate and by the time I was home I was beside myself. I got home and she had no accident! Nothing! She still had a little bit of diarrhea.
But today her stools are firming up and she is being ornery again!

shais-mom, Hope Keegan is over the diarrhea. If she still has a lingering odor from the diarrhea and you can't bath her yet - try washing her up using diluted mouthwash or watered down toothpaste laugh but it works! This is used if someone gets poo on their hands from changing the baby or cleaning up after the dog - just wash your hands with toothpaste or mouthwash.

Staci,
If you put a plastic wrap around the stitches so they don't get wet then you could give her a standing shower. You need to put the plastic around the stitch area and use waterproof tape. You shouldn't have a problem then giving her a cleaning up.

Staci, how old is Keegan?

Sourya, Keegan is 5 mos on Tuesday.
You have to remember I work in a hospital with infinite number of supplies! I got a "tagaderm" which is the plastic wrap like cover they put on IV's that protect them. And put it over it careful not to get it on the stitches. And I bathed the spots where it was the worst. Then I called the vet to make my appt for stitch removal didn't get to do that Friday and I told them I thought maybe she herniated a few stitches b/c I felt some lumps under her incision. She put me on hold for about a 30 sec and came back and asked me to bring her in w/in the hour. So we went to the vets and the dr checked the incision and said it was just scar tissue b/c she is so active. (IMAGINE THAT):o:o
Said it looked fine. She gave me 2 perscriptions, one for her stomach and one for diarrhea. She said it was probably just irritation from the anesthia like what we humans would get. I told her I absolutely had to give her a bath and explained how I done it and she said it was fine and not to worry. She goes back Monday the 4th for her stitch removal. She is doing just fine now!
For all the hundreds of spay/neuter surgeries I've seen go by without a hitch, one of the worst times was when Dessi, my first dog, got spayed :( I was just in second grade and didn't understand why she had to spend the night at the vet's. The day she came home, I sat with her all day and then camped out in the laundry room with her. When I woke up the next morning, the WHOLE laundry room floor was covered with blood, diarrhea, and vomit :( :( :( :( :( I was so mad!!!!!!! It took me a long time to understand that it was really the healthy thing to do. I hated that my baby got so sick. She was okay after a day though.

Hannah's incision did not heal well after her spaying, so every time someone's dog goes in for this procedure, I get all apprehensive. I know most dogs go through this without any problems, but once one of your own has some difficulties, you can't help but worry. I sure hope that the worst is over now and it is clear sailing. I'm glad the Vet took it seriously and gave her the once over.

Monday night was pretty good, she was in good spirits and ate pretty good. Then she started having really runny stool again, and she had me up about 3 times, wouldn't eat at all on Tues she wouldn't even sniff it so then I took it away from her, just laid and looked at me with the HUGE sad eyes, making me feel just awful. Before I went to work I took her outside she dry heaved and vomited thick salivia ( nothing in her stomach). I felt just horrible, wishing I could stay home with her.
I worried about her at work the whole time, afraid of what I might find when I got home. When I got home she went to the bathroom still had the squirts. She ate pretty good. Today, she is running around like her normal self, eating like a pig (like she hasn't eaten in 2 days!), and her stool is finally firm again! I am so glad she is feeling better. I just wish I could have stayed with her but I simply couldn't. I felt like a bad mom!
