I saw "Jeremiah Johnson" for a second time. I loved it the first time around and after 35 years it did not lose any appeal. This is a great Redford movie.
"Catch me if you Can" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

"Australia", It was just Ok for me. Although the scenery was very pretty the story line was reminesant of an old 50's western with a bit of supernatural. I guess in this case it was 50's western meets WW2. I dont care for even the Idea of Nicole Kidman however Jackman was as usual bigger than life. It was also a little long for me. It is rare that I look forward to a movie ending. I had the ending figured out but it seemed that they wanted to drag it out
for effect,and missed their mark.

Frost/Nixon this a very compelling drama directed by Ron Howard.
I highly recommend it. Although it is based on real events it is not a docu-drama. I give it 5++ stars. I have not been drawn into a movie like this in a long time.

I think I posted this somewhere on the board months ago. It's such a great memory, I have to post it again.
When I went to see Jeremiah Johnson, I was seeing it at a drive-in in the mountain range where it was filmed in Utah. It was incredible to sit there and know it was filmed a short distance away.:) Those mountains are incredibly beautiful.
Has anybody seen Paul Blart-Mall Cop? I'm in love with Kevin James so my son bought me the DVD. It was cute.:)

I recently saw "Rachel Getting Married" with Anne Hathaway. It was good but I found parts of it really long and I found some of the scripts choices really distracting and weird, and I focused so much on wondering why they would choose that, I didn't pay as much attention to the story.
I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" and found it predictable and not worth the hype at all.
"The Wrestler" was AMAZING and I loved it, but that could be because my uncle used to be a wrestler (Moondog Moretti or Eddie Moretti depending on the year) and did a lot of community wrestling and I know the movie was really important to him.
EVERYONE should go see "UP" - I have seen it in theatre twice and already want to go back. It has so many levels. It's great for kids but there is enough adult humour for everyone to enjoy it. It actually made me laugh out loud both times I saw it. I can't wait to own it. I also found it to be a tear jerker. It's not sad, but it's really touching. Go see it!!!!! :p

Gran Torino, very good flic.
I left the room about halfway through, and just kinda half-listened to the rest. It just seemed too awfully depressing, and I wasn't in the mood for it. Thought it'd be more about the car ;) . Sometimes I don't need reminding that life can be sad.
Paul liked it - he watched the whole thing, but did admit it was depressing.
I like Redbox - I don't feel nearly as bad walking out halfway through a movie I paid a dollar to rent as I would a ten-dollar theater ticket.

I am so ticked off at the moment.
I got 'No Country for Old Men'.
Like WTF was that all about? That movie really sucked-I sat down and watched the whole thing waiting for the final shootout/resolution and Tommy Lee Jones let me down.
I went to sleep ticked off and here I am 3.5 hours later-I woke up to use the can and I am still ticked off.

Does anyone watch Curb Your Enthusiasm?
I love that program-Some of the things that Larry David thinks about makes me laugh. I love Cheryl Himes and Susie Essman, the woman who plays Jeff's wife on the series makes me laugh when I see her.
She is probably the funniest "biatch" on all of TV, especially when she runs her mouth when she goes toe to toe with LD.:D

Essman makes me laugh, too. There was one episode in particular where she and Larry had to share a bed (I forget why) and the way she said "Get the f*** out of my bed!" just floored me. Someone else could've said that line and it wouldn't have been as funny but her delivery is really good. Can you imagine someone like that in real life, though? Ugh! LOL

I saw that one recently! They were on a skiing trip with friends who were very religious and the couples had to pretend to married to the other's spouse to keep in favor with the other couple beliefs.
I just see her and crack up......She's very vicious and predictable.
I can't tell is she's too nasty to ignore or LD is too dumb to pass up te chance to walk away.
I think that is the attraction of her character-she is the absolute worst SO ever - Some people are married to 'ugly' people like her character and they put up with it, She is way over the top and I think people are thankful that they are not married to a shrew like that!:D

Blue..... OZ was AWESOME!!! I guess they could only go so far with it, but I'm so disappointed it went off the air. The acting was superb! I read that there wasn't any practice takes..all the professional actors (that we know and love...ie: Chris Meloni )did one take. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (for various reasons)
Saw Gran Torino yesterady from Netflix. Loved it. Depressing, yes, but it was terrific. I adore Clint Eastwood. Yummy. Yummy.

Slumdog Millionaire While the slum conditions in parts of Mumbai are a little depressing because they really exist, I enjoyed the movie story line.
Hotel For Dogs A feel good dog movie that I enjoyed. A lot of fun.
Hounddog This is a dark drama set in rural 50's Alabama, Starring Dakota Fanning in a superb performance. This movie might not appeal to some but I enjoy character studies. This shows a poor dysfunctional rural family of the south without using the usual overdone stereotypes.

I have to ask this....
WTF is up with Slumdog Millionaire and the kids in the movie?
Seems like every other week there is a story about them getting a new house, getting kicked out of one, going to jail or fighting for some thing?
I know the kids were pulled from the slums to act, but didn't they get SOME money? A buck does go a long way in India, so why are these kids still there?

AVPR Requiem- I love Sci Fi- this movie sucked. Two stars? maybe?
Burn After Reading- Another good movie with a WTF ending! two stars-I loved movies that made you want to discuss them afterwards. I feel cheated when a movie fizzles out at the end.
Two complaints? Why are scary movies so dark that I have to adjust the set to see them?
And why do movies which are very good to begin with, give you an ending that sucks cat hair from the recliner? B after R was a good quirky movie, but what the characters did had no ramifications.
The Doors- I like Val Kilmer. The only thing that was never really explained was the Indian showing up while he was tripping. I get the symbolism, but wanted a little more of a story there. 4 stars.

If you recall, the Native American moved closer to Morrison each time, indicating that death was moving closer to him. Morrison felt that the spirit of a Native American entered his body when they came upon a car accident. So when he was doing his dance on stage, for example, the Indian was there because Morrison was courting death w/drugs.

This new method of acting where everyone whispers and mumbles is getting on my last nerve. Actually, I guess it isn't new. Yes, I do know about that. I live in Michigan, not near Mackinac Island, but have been there.
For anyone who doesn't know the Island - they had to get special permission to use those cars in the 1980 scenes. Cars are not allowed on Mackinac - horse drawn carriages, bikes, or your own 2 feet.

I read some of the other comments in this thread about the film, and I didn't find it depressing in the slightest. It was intense and definitely gets through to deep parts of your soul. The Man Without a Face with Mel Gibson, Nick Stahl. Excellent
movie. Directed by Gibson also.
I watched Grey Gardens the movie, I am just starting the documentary.
All I can say right now, 10 minutes into the documentary, is Drew and Jessica Lang did phenomenal jobs as Little and Big Edith's.

They really did, didn't they? I compared a particular clip of Lang w/Big Edith and I could hardly tell the difference. They both did remarkable portrayals.
The Usual Suspects
Very good; I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Lots of suspense, plus i love Kevin Spacey.

i went with a group of girls last night to see the ugly truth. it was funny and cute, definitely a fluff movie. no real deep substance or incredible moments. but it was funny. it's pretty vulgar, so keep that in mind if you're easily offended. :) i enjoyed it, but nothing i'd write home to mom about.
i also saw public enemies last week. great movie, not the best ever. not my favorite johnny depp film ever, but still really good!

Watched Righteous Kill last night. It got panned by critics, but it was really a good movie (The sex scenes were needless, but such is life)
Deniro and Pacino carried the movie, but they did it very, very well. What other actors could pull off calling Underdog a druggie?

"Damage" w/Jeremy Irons. I'll watch ANYTHING he's in. He's my favorite actor of all time plus he's easy on the eyes and he lives in a 14th century castle in England. C'mon! W/that velvety voice he could talk me into anything. ;) Anyhow...this movie is appropriately named. All the people in it are damaged and the course that Irons takes in the movie causes so much irreparable damage that at times the movie is difficult to watch. It's like flying over or driving through a scene where a natural disaster just occurred. The damage is indescribable. A must see.

I finally saw SAW! Four stars~
THAT was a pretty good movie. I love horror movies and this one was very good. A little gory, but if you remember it's just a movie.....
I saw some others but I can't remember what they are!
-------------
What is it with Depp and the makeup?
He's a fairly decent actor, but the parts that he does with the makeup weird me out.
The 'Mad Hatter' makeup makes me want to pass over THAT movie. I saw pics of that and it didn't make sense at all. It's probably my desire to avoid clowns and stuff like that.
It's not just Depp either, I hated the "Cat in the Hat" and wanted to neuter Mike Myers so he wouldn't make another CITH movie.;)
--------------
Pollock- Four stars! The story of Jackson Pollock the painter. Ed Harris is a great actor. A good story!

I re-watched a movie I had seen back in the 70's when it came out. Tora! Tora! Tora! is an excellent movie that i recommend. I was very uneasy watching the movie this time because of the US's total ineptness in allowing Japan to sneak up on us and all the missed communications leading up to the attack. It was like Déjà Vu of 911. The thing that bothed me most is to speculate on all the missed queues we will hear about when that next big attack occurs. it will probably be attributable to political correctness.

Tim Burton has a lot to do with Johnny Depp and makeup. ;) Burton's movies are really over the top like that, a lot of the time. I'm personally really excited about the latest version of Alice and Wonderland. ;) It's one of my favorite stories and the books are really trippy, so it's one story I don't mind seeing from many perspectives!

I saw 2012 a couple days ago and it was absolutely terrible. The special effects were great but the story line was completely corny and ridiculous. We almost walked out it was that bad. I've only walked out on one other movie (Dukes Of Hazzard) so it was quite bad lol.
Hubby and I rented Pelham 1 2 3 last week and it was wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Anne of Green Gables .....1985... A wonderful family movie. highly recommend.
I love, love, love that movie. I look forward to renting it when my daughter is old enough and watching it with her like my mom watched it with me. In '91 I saw a production of Romeo And Juliet in Canada and Megan Follows played Juliet (she's Anne in the movie). I was so delighted to see her perform live on stage.

I have since watched two other Anne movies starring Megan Fellows. i really loved both sequels to the original.
1987: Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, a sequel to the 1985 miniseries which aired on the Disney Channel as Anne of Avonlea: The Continuing Story of Anne of Green Gables.
2000: Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story.

I love this series. I have all the books (there are eight, and they are wonderful). All three movies are so good, and I, like Leslie, can't wait to share them with Clara! I have them on DVD, and will probably watch them this week since they've been mentioned in here. :)

I finally watched "The Proposal" last night. Very enjoyable but a little predictable. Worth watching, It had a lot of special funny moments.
Night before last I watched "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise. I usually don't care for the Future cop type of movie, but I liked this one.

Is this a fairly new movie, i have not heard of it , but i am a big fan of Sandra Bullock and will just about watch anything she stars in.must check this one out for sure ,thanks Grace and others for your reviews.
Watched The accidental Husband in the weekend, a cutesy romantic comedy type movie which is what i really enjoy, not the best movie in the world, but nice light entertainment, and New town, i think that is the name of it, with Renee from Bridget Jones diary in it, and Harry Connick Jnr, another similar type movie, enjoyed both.

I Will Fight No More Forever (1975) (TV) Re-enactment of the story of Chief Joseph of the Nez Percé Indians, who lived in the beautiful Wallowa Valley of Idaho and Oregon. In 1877, President Grant opened the Valley to white settlement, and the Nez Percé were given 30 days in which to move to the Lapwai Reservation. The government sent the one-armed soldier-chief, General Oliver Otis Howard, to clear all Nez Percé out of Wallowa Valley. Chief Joseph, in a succession of shrewd military actions, outmaneuvered ten pursuing units of the U.S. Army until his outnumbered band -- sick, starving, and tired -- finally surrendered after a 1700-mile, 108-day fighting retreat. On October 8, 1877, Chief Joseph made his noble speech, "from where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever."
It is sad to see how we herded the indians into reservation from east to west.
I guess this was the last of the free indians until Grant's order came down.
Excellent movie. Recommend.

I've mostly been watching classic Doctor Who episodes lately but I did see Benjamin Button and King Arthur. I didn't like the first, it was way too long and I lost interest. King Arthur is one of my favorite movies so of course that was fun. I dubbed over it in funny accents and stuff.

I saw a wonderful documentary about Thelonius Monk and Nica Rothschild-The Jazz Baroness.
He the jazz great and she part of the Rothschild family.
I do not like jazz at all:eek:.....It was a really good. I enjoyed it.
--------------
I saw Gran Torino and loved it. Clint always makes a decent movie.
Now, for the sake of arguement?
People (I mean the groups like The Fraternity Under Communism, Kindness and Yanking Out Uvulas) get all weird about people making racist comments, but the have no comment on a the dialogue in that movie?
It was a great movie, but I cringed a little when CE was at the party and calling the people names. I understand the difference between an "art" form and real life - like that stupid Miley Cyrus making fun of Asian people, but I was tripping during the first part of the movie.
-------------
I saw Nick of Time with Johnny Depp the other day.
He is an EXCELLENT actor....I just do not understand his fixation with all the 'costume' movies he makes.
--------------
I also saw Body of Lies....I have to watch it over again, I like DiCaprio, I just didn't like Titanic.

We got Slumdog Millionaire from Redbox for free - and I thought it was awful! So dismal, depressing and sad, and I had heard such good things about it. Good! I think it's a sin to not have read them all at least once in your life time. (Then again I have the chapter stars from the top of the pages tattooed on my wrist so I may be a bit biased.)
I watched I've Loved You So Long last night while finishing up my Christmas present (I knit a rainbow dalek for my cousin) and I loved it. It was in French with subtitles.
Today I watched some classic Doctor Who. This morning I watched Snakedance, a three part story with the fifth Doctor, Nyssa, and Tegan. It was very 80s but slightly less boring than usual classic Who. Then when we went over to my grandparents' house, my cousin had gotten a second Doctor story on DVD, so we started that. It was called The War Games, and I got 4 episodes in but I kind of fell asleep during a bit of it. It was interesting once I got into it but I really think they could set it up in 10 minutes instead of an episode and a half. I would love it if someone went and edited down the classic Who series so they were shorter, honestly I think you could easily cut the time in half and it'd still make as much sense as it did to begin with.

I wish I could get in to watching movies, since my son has hundreds of DVD's in his collection, but if it doesn't "grab" me in the first 5 or 10 minutes, then I'm done with it. And try to watch one on t.v.? - forget that - I'm asleep before the first commercial. :(
I could count on one hand, with fingers left over, the number of new movies I have watched from start to finish, this past year. However, if I do manage to get thru a whole movie, that means I really liked it, and will watch it repeatedly without tiring of it.

I subscribe to Netflix with 3 at a time unlimited. I end up watching a lot of movies. I can also stream movies over the internet to my media computer that is connected to My projector. I can watch netflix, the network channels like ABC, and HULU. This gives me access to thousands of movies and TV shows. I generally watch them by my self, because if I ask my wife down to watch she is usually snoring about a half hour into the movie. When we were dating she actually went to sleep at the movie theater. If we are watching a Football game for her Team Auburn, she will usually stay awake, at least till half time.

We have DirecTV, and each month we receive their guide to what's on. I spend a day or two checking out all the movies, make a list, and program them to record.
Finally got my list down to 4 left to watch, but the oldest of those is from last January - The Bridge Over the River Kwai. It's fun watching some of the older movies I saw way back when - as well as some of the more recent ones.
Plus we go to the theater near our house to see the very new ones. We went last Monday, going again this coming Monday, and I'm going on Tuesday by myself. Senior rates are a lovely thing.

The Greenwich was the first one you came to - about a block past the Post Office. The Kent was way at the other end of town - also on the right side of the street.
Yeah - that's quite a walk, but we didn't think twice about it back then. I used to bike all the way to my grandmother's house in Pontiac - from West Shore Road.
And Rosie used to walk to school every day, no matter the weather, from East Greenwich to Lockwood.

Then it must have been the Kent, since it was on the south end, and I remember going past a lot of other establishments before getting there. The kids now would just ask Mom or Dad to drive them there.
Oh how I remember old Rosie - smiling the whole way. Of course, she couldn't do anything but smile. :p It used to crack me up: her chewing someone out in class with that smile on her face. It was difficult for the rest of the class to keep a straight face. I know - I'm bad!
