Just saw Capote over the weekend. Good movie, he was an interesting person. Kind of a somber movie though.
Did anyone know that it was Harper Lee (she wrote "To Kill a Mockingbird" - my favorite book), who was his lifelong friend and helped him with all his research for "In Cold Blood"? Traveled to Kansas with him to do so.
Her book and the movie ended coming out before his, even though he started it in 1959.
Also just saw "Skelelton Key". Good ending.

Friday Night Lights and Lord of War.
Tim Mcgraw was great in FNL! Not a huge fan of Billy Bob Thornton, but he was really good.

The LOW was pretty good also. Could have been better but Nicholas Cage is one of my favorite actors.

I watched Sliding Doors on the telly the other night, second time around, not too bad, even it a tad confusing at times, love John Hanna so worth seeing it just to watch him in action, am watching a great mini-series on telly at the moment, based on true story, second one tonight , really loving it,The incredible journey of Mary Bryant, really good.,starring our own Sam Neil, although his part is not a major in it.

Awesome! I love that film so much. You should check out a movie called Oh, What a Night. It has Corey Haim in it, and, he's not a great actor, but, he's sweet in this movie. It's a coming of age type story and it's based in Canada in the fifties. Studebakers and good rock and roll...it's a tastefully done film, with some really humorous moments. Robbie Coltrane is in and suppliese most of them. ;) I'm not sure why I lump it in there with Dogfight, but, I guess because they're both in my favorites list, both had young actors that were popular at the same time, and, both are movies that most people haven't seen. ;) I'm really glad you liked Dogfight, though.

My dad really wants to take me to it, but isn't sure if it is appropriate for me. I can see rated R movies but it really depends. So is there anything nasty or anything in it?
Justin and I saw Brokeback Mountain a few weeks ago. It was really good.
Wether or not you should see it really depends how comfortable you are watching a movie with sex scenes with your dad.
Skeleton Key was really good, I personally loved the ending ;)

Just finished The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended versions). Thinking about watching all the making of portions of the movie next. Also putting some old Beta (for all under 25, this is a pre-VHS format) Disney movies on PC to convert to DVD (close to 120 movies).

I saw When a Stranger Calls and Big Momma's House 2. They were both alright. When a Stranger Calls was a lot of waiting for something to happen. They played the "scary music" and ended up having the cat pop out a bit too much.

Bummer. I was hoping When A Stranger Calls was going to be scarey. I remember the original and was scared for weeks!
I just finished watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It was a 1.52 hour movie....it felt like 12.52. It wasn't very good.
Just my opinion though.

Four teenage girls went and saw King Kong, one being my Melissa, they all said it was so boring and did not even stay to see the end.
Watched Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason again last night, and am currently reading the book as well, absolutely loved it yet again, only two movies i can watch over and over again, think i will buy the DVD myself, of course i am besotted with Colin Firth and adore all the actors in this movie, just nice light hearted entertainment.
I just love the expressions on Colin Firths face at times, it is priceless, such a great actor, and Renee just suited the part so well, OK enough raving of my all time favourite movie. :)

I finally say all of TROY....
I do not like Orlando Bloom....
It was all his fault that Val and Eric got killed.
All that madness over a woman? ;)
-----------------------------------------
Hollywood Film makers???
Make a movie with a story like TROY.
Film it all at once, like LOTR....Make it huge! Make it spectacular and make it
4-6 hours long...then release it an hour and a half at a time-one part every month, for a few months in a row..
Making a movie from a great story, then crimping it into three hours really sucks.....

I watched Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. It was great! I wasn't sure I'd like a movie with "curse" and Rabbit" in the same phrase, but it really is a fun, sweet, safe for kids movie, and no clay bunnies were harmed in the making of it! (It's claymation)
Some of the scenes with all the happy little bunnies floating in the tank, waving at each other were just too cute! :)
I LIKED it!

I watched 8 Below tonight, I thought it was good, for what it's meant to be. Not the greatest movie ever, by any means, but, beautifully filmed and very charming. I cried, of course, just because of the relationships between the dogs and between the guy and his dogs. And, I thought the actors did well. It was sweet.

Eight Below!
We saw it today, along with a theatre full of small children and their parents. It was a very, very, very good movie, and very dog-centered. There were some sad parts, and some scary parts, but the dogs were all very good actors.

Watched Wedding Crashers last night, have to agree with you Donna, It sucked, it was ok i suppose and had some funny bits and some romantic bits, but on the whole i rated it pretty low, certainly would not highly recommend it, and then began to watch the 40 year old virgin, it sucked even more IMO, turned it off, and i am no prude by any means, but hubby and i both agreed we could not be bothered watching it any further.
For me both rated highly on the boring list. :)

I enjoyed Wedding Crashers, although I thought it was too long...but, I didn't enjoy the 40 year old Virgin...I wouldn't say it was the worst comedy ever, but, I didn't really like it. I laughed, but, wouldn't buy the movie...

Kari there were parts of wedding crashers that were funny and quite enjoyable, but i guess it had such rave reviews i was really disappointed, it all depends on the mood you are in too when watching any movie i think, but as for the 40 yr old virgin i think the review i just read summed it up exactly,it said it was simply crass, that it could have been handled by a french director with humour and sensitivity,,take it to hollywood though and any chance of sensitivity is monstered in a search for cheap laughs, now those comments i agree with.
Then it said only the truely desperate will enjoy this movie, and that the actor was awful and they can imagine him being a virgin at 80 lol, not sure i would go that far .
Cannot wait until next saturday , my fav movie ' Japanese story 'is on the telly, so won't be hiring any vids next weekend, and i am going to tape it too, so i can watch it over and over again, I Love this story even though the reviews only gave it three stars, it combines, love, laughter, and sadness all in one, and i think the japanese male actor is hot too. :D .

Went to see Eight Below today. Actually, I wouldn't recommend it because it was so sad. I was crying like a baby and everybody in the theater was crying too. I can still remember seeing Benji when I was a kid and remember his girlfriend (Tiffany) getting kicked. I was mortified and sad and remember that feeling to this day. All I kept thinking about were the poor kids who were watching Eight Below and how sad and mortified they must be when something sad happens in this movie.
But I must say those dogs were beautiful and they were very well trained.

My friend introduced me to his favorite movie, Bubba Ho-Tep. It's weird, but, I absolutely loved it. Very campy, but, stylishly filmed and cleverly written. I thought the performances were great, and, the music was beautiful. I don't recommend to most people, though, as it's not a mainstream kinda flick. But, if you like weird, independent type films, it's got some good qualities...it's funny, but, has some touching moments. And, it's basically sortof like an old B horror film. Anyway, I watched it the other night, and, loved it. :)

Well i watched GIGLI last night on the telly, because i do enjoy Jloe and also i had heard so many bad things about it and it was awarded so many Razzies, well i must say it did deserve them, but it had some good parts in it and i liked seeing the chemistry between Jen and Ben knowing at that stage they were a couple or on the brink of becoming a couple, that part was nice, but all in all not a very tasteful or great movie thats for sure, but i have seen worse.

We saw "V for Vendetta" yesterday - good movie, very interestingly done. More depth than a typical "comic book" (graphic novel) adaptation. It's unsubtle in its political critique in allegory, but interesting to know that the original graphic novel was written in reaction to Margaret Thatcher, not our current politicians.

Last night we rented the DVD of Crash. Before it won best picture from the Academy Awards, we had not heard of it....but I think it was just TERRIFIC!
It was my kind of movie in that it made a statement, was very involved with many stories within the story - and it wrapped up in very complete way, explaining everything from the whole movie. It was the sort of movie that left me thinking far into the night. The way it was filmed was artistically interesting also - a sort of dreamy quality and the music was wonderful.
I would love to hear what other folks think, too.

V for Vendetta. I loved it. It was gorgeously filmed, well acted, the dialogue was really fun and thought provoking at the same time. Hugo Weaving did an outstanding job as the alliteration-loving V. And, Natalie Portman just knocks my socks off. She's amazing. I saw it and will see it again in the theaters and will buy it the day it comes out on DVD.

Since there isn't SQUAT on television today, I watched Funny Girl (for the bazillionth time). Ya know how you watch a movie over and over again, and everytime you see something different you didn't notice before??
Well, I noticed that in one scene Fanny Brice was eating lobster. Which seemed strange to me because she's Jewish and they don't eat shellfish. I had to call my childhood friend to confirm the fact that the Orthodox Jews only eat fish with fins.
Never noticed that before.

I also watched Sweet and Low Down. I love Sean Penn, and, I adore this film. I may have mentioned in this thread already, but, I've watched it three times in the past two days. Not totally sitting down, watching, but, it's been on in my room while I pack. It's a fantastic movie.
Anybody seen The Libertine yet? How odd that I heard about that movie about a month or two ago, knew I had to see it, but, because it doesn't seem to be getting much publicity, I forgot about it. So, tonight...I'm watching Sweet and Low Down and decided to look the actress up. Her name's Samantha Morton. And, wouldn't you know? She's the actress in The Libertine! What a coincidence! Kari, I wasn't able to see The Libertine because of a limited release, it wasn't shown at a cinema that I could get too. It had a limited release in the US too I believe.
I have finally got to see it though, on DVD. The US DVD release is July 4th.
It is not to everyone's taste that's for sure, given the darkness of the subject and being period costume and all, but I think it is an excellent film with superb acting from all concerned.
Sorry I can't give you a proper review, I am really bad at that sort of thing. :D

but, back to movies! I love Disney movies so much! And, actually they do put out some movies that aren't necessarily void of swear words. ;) Two movies that come to mind are Miracle, the one about the 1980 US Olympic hockey team, and, National Treasure, a movie with Nicholas Cage. But, Disney is definitely known for wholesome movies. You really should check out the original Shaggy Dog, it's a great movie. Did you ever see Old Yeller? It's in theaters right now. I know, that's why I wanted to check it out. I loved it. Someone else mentioned that it has Lindsay Lohan in it. I didn't really mention her, because I don't think she really adds much to the cast lineup, at least not to someone into the older actors. ;) I was actually a little turned off when I heard she was in it. But, she doesn't have a huge part, and, she's really understated in the film. She adds to the film, but, doesn't steal scenes or anything. She does have one part where she's the main focus, and she sings in that part. As much as I don't like the style of music she performs, she has a powerhouse voice. And, I've seen a couple of the movies she's done before, and, she's a decent actress as well. Anyway, that was a bit of a tangent, sorry. :)

I love the wedding singer, have watched it like four times, once when it came out at the movies, on video and the telly a couple of times, Adam sandler is so cute in this movie, he is a fav of mine as is Drew, but i have never seen him as cute as in this movie.
Robilee i saw the family stone last weekend, i also enjoyed it, not a fan of Sarah Jessica Parker at all, but i have to say she did a brilliant job and really is a good actress, it is a different kind of movie but very enjoyable.
Has anyone seen Click, hoping to see it soon

I saw The Brothers Grimm last night and I have it on and I'm kinda watching it again while I'm on the computer. I love it, it is so funny and good. Most of the graphics are really good too (exept for the horse who swallows the child, that looks like a video game)

I cant remember the last time i posted in this thread, sorry if i have already posted some of the movies ;).
When we were away we sat down one night and watched The Devils Advocate, i loved it and thought Keanu Reeves did a good job. Al Pacino kicked butt as per usual.
We also watched The Rocky Horror picture Show, which i have seem many times before. It is always a good boredom buster. We watced Charlie And The Chocolate Factory again, love that movie. I also fast forwarded through the whole of The Ring 2, it looked very lame.
I adore The Wedding Singer, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore were adorable in that movie together. Ohh and the movie Toys was on TV yesterday, I think thats what it's called, has Robin Williams in it. What i watched of it was good.
ETA: I also watched My Own Private Idaho again a few nights ago. I love that movie and it is fast becoming one of my favourites. We watched United 93 last week aswell, i found it was an emotional movie.
Ok i think thats all for now.

Ok so i watch too many movies :o. Tonight i watched Last Days, Gus Van Sant is one of my favourite directors but this movie did not pull me in, i ended up fast forwarding through most of it and could still follow the story line.
Then i watched about 5 or 6 episodes of Six Feet Under.... that was much more entertaining.

My boyfriend, David, and, I watched four movies yesterday, because the weather wasn't great. We watched Team America World Police, Saved!, Aeon Flux, and The Last Samurai! I liked them all. The only one I'd already seen was Team America, which is disgusting and crude, but, I love it. The puppetry and the detail in it is astonishing. Saved! was great, it made a lot of interesting and poignant points. Aeon Flux was better than I thought it would be, although the dialogue was goofy in parts. I thought it was beautiful film, though, visually. And, as much as Tom Cruise doesn't appeal to me as a person, he does do some great movies, and, The Last Samurai was amazing.

We also watched Wolf Creek, which is very similar to the Hills Have Eyes!! But it was based on a true story!! Very gory!!!!The other night we watched Brokeback Mountain, not that hubby was all that interested, But I thought it was very good! It did make me bring out the tissues in the end tho!!! Hubby actually liked it too!!! Of course, Iwatched it because Heathe Ledger was in it!! he he he he!! I just love him!!!:)

Went to see Pirates 2, Dead Mans Chest, last night and boy, what a rollercoaster ride!
It is a follow on story from the first certainly but beyond that is very different. Elizabeth's character is expanded (btw Kiara is fabulous) as are a few more of the orginal crew, Orlando's Will is still serious but has much more derring-do, Bill Nighy's Davy Jones is stunning and Jack Sparrow, well, Jack is... Jack!! :D
It is fast, funny, has bit's that make you go 'yuk' and is a wonderfully entertaining two hours of fun. :D

King Kong. I finally saw it. I cried like a baby at the end of it. I think I was just needing a good cry, as I have never cried that hard at the end of a movie. I knew I'd cry, but, not like that! I didn't think I was going to like the movie at first, but, once they really discovered all the living things on the island, I was pretty into it. Kong was a spectacular character.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Eight Below
Memoirs of a Geisha
Aeon Flux
Wolf Creek
I enjoyed all of them. Memoirs was a little long and a bit slow and of course when I watched Eight Below I kept thinking thats not reality, but I still liked it. Kiss Kiss..made me giggle and I thought Robert Downey Jr. was so good in it. Wolf Creek was creepy and had me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the special effects in Aeon Flux.

Pirates of the Caribbean (carribean? i never can remember!): Dead Man's Chest. Awesome movie! Loved it! :D
I just saw it, I found it really disapointing. I know that it's hard for the sequel to live up to the original but this was just bad. There was way too much fighting, it got long and dull after awhile. For a big budget film I thought it was absolutely awful. I think this movie is one of those things were you either love it or hate it, as I've heard people review on both ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, I think when you compare a sequel to the first, you're *usually* going to be disappointed. I view most sequels and subsequent movies as individual films...I thought it was a lot of fun. I liked all the fighting, too! To each his own, that's for sure!

It was our wedding anniversary so we went to the movies and saw The Lake House, loved this movie, one of the nicest i have seen in a while, there was no swearing, violence or sex scenes that i remember, i know sounds boring, but actually it was not, a very tender lovely movie i thought and refreshing too, great fan of sandra bullock, and as usual she was great in it.
Hired out Derailed, well that was quite good, bit of a thriller and certainly a different role for Jennifer A,Also saw Just like Heaven, not too bad, light entertainment.
We recently saw The Wedding Singer. Yes, I know it's an 8 year old movie, but i hadn't seen it. Oh, what a nice movie; We thoroughly enjoyed it.
