Ugh, last night we watched "A Clockwork Orange" because DBF had never seen it and wanted to. I forgot how much I don't like that movie. I'm going to go see The Corpse Bride to make up for it. :)

Ha ha, I love Stanley Kubrick, and, Orange is one of my favorites, although it's been ages since I saw it. Did DBF (what does that stand for, anyway?) like it? I saw the Corpse Bride, I loved it! I love how Burton can even make clay loveable. ;)

Melissa saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the other night, her opinion was that the graphics were not that good and very fake, she actually liked the older version better, except that she loved Johnny Depp in his role and she thought the ending was better in the new version, some of the characters were good , but some not as good, but she did enjoy the movie very much, actually more so than her friend did. :)

Its a rainy day here in N.C.
My husband brought home Sin City, and The Longest yard.
Ill let you know what we think.
We did see crash, and thought it was good. And yes it does make you think.
Also saw Million $ Baby, excellent!
Also Fever Pitch, thought it was a good movie. Very cute.
Monster-In-Law, was great, we both thought it was funny. Jane Fonda did a super job.
The Ring 2,was good your typical scary thriller.
Beauty Shop was ok, nothing spectacular.
Just to name a few. ;)
Will let you know on the 2 we watch tonight. :)

Melissa and I watched Raise your voice with Hilary duff, oh dear not exactly a great movie, Melissa got bored and went upstairs, I stuck it out, but I certainly would not give it a great rating.

Going to watch The Clearing this weekend with the great Robert Redford and excellent British Actress Helen Mirren.

Yeah, please do, especially on Sin City. It's really different, so keep that in mind. :) I loved it, though! I like it when movies are filmed with the use of different mediums...like some animation, some live action, etc. I haven't seen the Longest Yard, yet, but, i have heard it's funny!

Serenity. I just got home a few minutes ago from watching it at the theater. If you are a fan of Star Wars, especially the first two (Episodes 4 & 5), you should check it out. It's good like they were...campy, great effects, awesome fight scenes, cool costumes...

And, the music was really good, but, not at all what I would have expected from a sci fi film. The music didn't fit, but, it was perfect, if that makes any sense. Anyway, it was a fun film!

Last night I watched a film called Powder, starring Sean Patrick Flanery as a young albino boy with unique powers. Jeff Goldblum has a small part in it too. :) I really liked the film, it made me cry in parts too which I don't do that often.

Cold Mountain is waiting in the wings for this weekend. :)

Just finished watching THE CLEARING, was an ok movie, not the most exciting or anything, but I like Robert Redford, it was pretty predicatable and nothing to write home about, but still it was reasonable., Helen Mirren did a pretty good American accent I thought., for a Brit.

I have seen Cold Mountain, I think you will enjoy it.

Yeah, I didn't like Cold Mountain. Have you ever seen the Holy Grail? That's one of my favorite comedies...another one that you should see if you like goofy stuff is Young Frankenstein...it's Mel Brooks, so, it's really silly. I hope you like the Boondock Saints, it is pretty intense, with some really bloody scenes. I think it's awesome, though...the way it's filmed and the score behind it. Wow. And, two hot Irish boys, that's all I really need, anyway. ;) My favorite scene (the music is really cool!) is with the toilet. Ha ha. I hope you like it!

I watched Lost in Translation a couple nights ago, I love that film. Bill Murray is just the bomb. ;) And, I watched Chicago last night, what a fun, colorful movie!

The Holy Grail is the one I have. :D
Not sure that I would like Young Frankenstein, I'm not keen on Mel Brooks.
I like the two Python films maybe because it is a sort of British (?) humour. I'm not a massive Python fan but I do love some or the sketches they did in the tv series, The Ministry of Silly Walks, The Dead Parrot, Micheal Palin's Lumberack song to name a few. :D I loved John Cleese's Fawlty Towers tv series too.

well, I don't remember to be honest with you, I only saw it once and it was in the theater when it first came out. I think I remember thinking it was just too drawn out and predictable, maybe. I don't think I liked Nicole Kidman's portrayal, even though I remember enjoying Jude Law's acting. I think I just thought the overall feeling was hokey. But, maybe I am just thinking about the generic responses I have to a lot of films that don't catch my attention. Like I said, it's been awhile!

Kari, I also like Lost In Translation. Good movie.

I know it, it's one of my favorites. Just how simple and complicated and heartfelt and sad and beautiful it is. I love how Coppola depicted Tokyo, and, I really liked the karaoke scene where they were each singing, and, it was cool that they were actually singing, and, not all that awesome at it. The whole thing was just so natural, and, the scenes where Murray's trying to communicate with the Japanese director and the photographer asking him to imitate all the old movie stars, it's so funny and sad at the same time. The most outright funny part, though, is the stairmaster thing, oh man. Anyway, I'll shut up now. :D

i'm going to go watch elizabethtown

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my very favorites, but, I never spell his name correctly! Be sure to tell us what you thought of the film, it's one I'm interested in seeing...it's funny, as a kid I remember having a penpal once who lived in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I don't remember her name, but, I remember she had a cute little dog named Trouble. Typical of me to remember the dog's name, but, not hers! ;) I remember we could choose any town, and, somehow we got a penpal from the town we chose. And, I chose that particular town because my mother's name is Elizabeth. :D

Oh, I watched the first half of The Motorcycle Diaries. I really enjoyed what I saw of it, but, i was too tired to continue watching it. My niece let me borrow it, so, I'm thinking I'm going to finish it tonight.

carole
10-13-2005, 05:32 PM
I think The motorcycle Diaries was filmed here in NZ, correct me if I am wrong, anyone going to see The worlds fastest Indian, it was filmed most part here in NZ too and is about NZer Burt Munro, anthony Hopkins played him, it has not debuted here except in one south Island Town, but I heard it got rave reviews at the film festival in Canada, I am eager to hear Anthony's NZ accent, he is a brilliant actor so no doubt he did a good job, produced by NZer Roger Donaldson, let me know what you all think when you see it?

The lion, the witch and the wardrobe (hope I got that right, hopeless at getting names right of movies) and King Kong were also filmed in NZ.

Kari you know I found Lost in Translation the most boring movie ever, but i did find parts of it entertaining, something sure got lost on me for sure, I Just dont get those type of movies, it was slow and tedious, to me, but I know I am in the miniority with my opinion, as it did well here too.,everyone finds something different in each movie they view, interesting to hear one's opinions. :)and know that I am respectful of them.

Anne of Green Gables. I'm telling you, those three movies are so good...but, the first one with Matthew and Marilla just absolutely floors me every time I watch it. I love the characters like they're personal friends of mine, and, I hate when the movie ends. And, I need to read the books again, they are so incredible. If you haven't read the books or seen the films, and, you're a woman of any age, you really must. They are an absolute must for a young woman to read and see. I introduced my ex husband's niece to them when she was about 18 or 19, and, we cried like babies together while we watched them. It's one memory I will take with me always. Definitely a must see!

TOTALLY agree! I have been a fan of 'Anne' since I was little. I have all of the books and movies. I haven't watched any of the movies for quite a while, now I am in the mood for them! ;) I live Anne and Gilbert together, what a sweet, romantic couple!

But, we are supposed to grill out, hang out with a bunch of people and watch this cancelled tv series on dvd. I have just watched The Woodsmen on DVD, I was so wanting to see this at the movies so was excited to see it out so early, Kevin Bacon did an awesome job, I almost hated him for what he was in the movie, but I love him as an actor because he does a good job, It was a reasonable movie I thought, I noticed it kept my attention, which is hard to do, I actually managed to sit still and watch it without getting up several times, so when I thought about that I realised it must have been pretty ok.

Then we watched The Boogeyman, I was not over-thrilled by it, even though it was kinda neat to see all the NZ scenery and our local actors, Lucy Lawless, and at least two others, I had read they did an apalling job of the American Accent and to be honest I had to agree, ( except for Lucy)not a great movie IMO., and No i was not even scared really.

Yes I have seen that movie, personally it was ok for me, but it did not rate highly in my books, but each of us are different and you may well enjoy way more than I did, it just was a movie going nowhere imo.,i had high expectations of the movie and was left feeling let down, however it is not a complete plonker and has some good parts in it..

Has anyone seen 'Bewitched" we have a can festival here this week, you take in a can of food and get a free movie ticket, all the cans go to the salvation army for charity, Melissa and her friend are hopefully going to see this movie as it is one of the selections available.

Serenity. For the third time. :) It was actually better for me this time, because between the second and third viewings of the film, I watched the television series. So, the characters were more detailed this time. What an awesome movie! I've heard tell that if either the DVD sales or the box office sales do well, that they will do two more movies. I hope so!

You're right...it does make you think. I loved it. :) The cast was on Oprah recently (thanks to Jadapit for telling me about it!), and, it was just as thought-provoking as the movie. Don Cheadle is hugely intelligent, and, I am beginning to think he's one of my favorite actors. I still haven't seen Hotel Rwanda, though, and, from what I've heard, that's one of his best performances.

I love that movie! Scarlett Johannsen (I spell that name wrong and differently each time!) is awesome in it. That scene where they dance in the barn, with her husband there...that has got to be one of the sexiest scenes in a movie. Even though they're fully dressed, they're just so much passion and the way his hands move across her back! Oy. Robert Redford is a hottie.

Saw 2. VERY, VERY good movie,

I loved the concept of the first one. But, the acting was so horribly distracting, I couldn't fully enjoy the movie. Was the acting any better in this one? I'm probably going to go see it anyway, just to see...I was so bummed about the first one, though, because the acting was just so crappy. :(

Let's see...it's a sci-fi tv series that was cancelled before the first season was complete. The creator is the same guy that created Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel for Fox. Firefly is nothing like those two shows, excepting that it's an ensemble cast. There are nine main characters and the series is set 500 years from now. Supposedly, the only two main superpowers that survive from now to then are China and the United States, so, everyone in the show speaks English and Chinese equally fluently, even the lowest of the low. It's sci-fi, but, there are no aliens or people with crazy faces or anything...it's all humans. There's also a western feel to it, like some of the planets actually have the people on horseback, some of the planets are pretty rudimentary. The main characters all speak with a sortof western vernacular, meaning they use words like "ain't" and drop the g's off the endings of their words, but, they don't talk with an accent. It's really cleverly written, well directed, and well acted. The music is really beautiful and it's cool because so many different types of instruments are used. Everything from Chinese to Irish to Western, because of all the cultures that are mixed into the show. Anyway...sorry, I get carried away. :D

I just saw Saw2. I loved the first one, and this one was probably just as good. Just as much of a shock factor, and even gorier (sp?). I'm not overly squeamish, except with needles, and let's just say I squirmed in my seat. The ending was very twisted. Just...I love the whole idea of the movies. And there will be a Saw3. :D I won't spoil it for everyone else.

You really should watch it again, when you're not so tired. That is a wonderful film. I'm a sucker for true horse stories, though. Phar Lap is another one that is just fantastic. It's amazing the heroes that have been in this world, both human and non.

We watched Layer Cake last night. I'm not for sure what I thought about it..lol. The acting was great. I got a bit lost with the story though. Its an english movie and the accent always throws me off and sometimes I have to watch those movies again just to hear all the stuff I missed...lol. Daniel Craig is the star of the movie and I think he is going to be playing the new James Bond. I'm not for sure about how he will do in that role. I can't really picture him playing Bond. I thought Pierce Brosnan was a good James Bond. I'll have to see how Craig does in that role.

I think Layer Cake is made by the same people who did the movie Snatch. I love, love, love the movie Snatch! Has anyone seen it?

Has anyone seen Jarhead, yet? It came out in theaters yesterday, and, I've only one heard one review, and, it wasn't good. I get mixed feelings when I see the preview for it. I want to see it because of Jake Gyllenhaal (I always spell his name incorrectly), and, because the director also did American Beauty, which was absolutely incredible. But, I get a feeling that it looks like it isn't that good. Ugh. I will probably still try to see it once I feel better, but, I don't know...just waiting to see what some other folks have to say about it.

EDITED: Just went to my favorite review site, and, I don't know...I think I'm going to end up liking it...the bad reviews are mostly bad because the movie doesn't have any actual battle scenes, not much action apparently. And, that won't bother me. Hmmm...gives me hope! :)

"Bonbon el perro" is an Argentinian filme about the ups and downs of a Dogo Argentino and his owner.

"Der weisse Massai" (The White Massai): a Swiss woman while in vacation in Kenya, decides to stay to live with a Massai warrior. Based in her real life.

"Pride and Prejudice" I would recommend for a girls night.

It is a great movie! The whole thing with Willy reminiscing about his childhood was an interesting twist, completely created by Tim Burton. And, the ending is different from the book. I don't know that I liked it better than the book, but, it's definitely closer to the book than the Gene Wilder version. I think Roald Dahl would have been pleased with this version. But, it probably wouldn't have been made if he'd been alive, as he HATED the original Wilder version. I love both. :)

That's funny that you remember the book like that, I always thought it was a tad dark...I guess it's definitely all about interpretation. That's why I was so stoked when I read that Burton was doing the movie, because I knew it would be more like the book, with a bit of a dark edge to it.

I learned many things about June and Johnnny that I did not know - looked them up on the internet to see if they were accurate and they were :) Reece Witherspoon was just perfect as June. I also loved the Maybelle Carter portrayal. There were a couple songs I have never heard but enough of the old favorites to get my toes tapping :D

We plan to go see Rent next. Daughter Missy loves that musical and so we have heard many of the songs for years! She went to see the live production in Cincinnati a few years ago and says quite a few of the original cast members are in the movie.

We plan to go see Rent next. Daughter Missy loves that musical and so we have heard many of the songs for years! She went to see the live production in Cincinnati a few years ago and says quite a few of the original cast members are in the movie.

We saw Rent a couple nights ago and we loved it. The songs are still going through my head - and yes, it made me cry. I feel like I really got to know all of the people.

I saw Jarhead tonight. I thought it was excellent. Not a typical war movie, but, really well acted and beautifully filmed. I didn't expect anything less out of Sam Mendes, though...American Beauty still knocks my socks off. Jake Gyllenhall (I really need to look up how to spell his name) is so good looking, it's sick in this movie. You see a lot of his skin, which I wasn't expecting at all. There's a scene in the movie with a horse, that is just so beautiful and sad...good movie.

Gyllenhaal...two l's and two a's...gotta remember that. ;)

Yeah, I'll be going to see it, I'll see most anything with Steve Martin. ;) I hadn't heard that it was a lot like Lost in Translation, though...hmmm....

actually, I just read a synopsis...I don't know...we'll have to see...I like romantic comedies all right, but, they're not usually the greatest movies. But, if this one isn't typical, which it doesn't sound like it is, it might be interesting. It mentions something about it not having a storybook ending, because, of course, it's life. So, that at least sounds like it's not going to end like almost every other romantic comedy. and, don't get me wrong, I'm as big a sap as any when it comes to Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, but, as much as I love those movies, they're all really predictable.

Anywho....I may wait to see it on video, if I can't get someone to go with me. I really want to see that Goodbye and Good luck or something like that...and, that new one Syrian. George Clooney is just really beginning to pique my interest. :) Not to mention, he's pretty sexy. ;)

Movies I've watched recently!

The Skeleton Key, good acting and plot and story, the ending was unique :)

Born into Brothels, I really expected a flop or a horror story, but it turned out to be a really nice documentary with extremely happy ending

House of wax was really gory, and freaky, I liked the little surprises throughout it like who the old peeking lady turned out to be. OH! and I LMAO when they were filming paris hilton in the night vision! LOL

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was ..... "special". I didn't really like the creepyness to it, think I'll stick to the older version.

I watched Wild at Heart the other night....it is directed by David Lynch, and, anyone who's seen anything by David Lynch knows that his movies aren't conventional. And, this one was no different. I loved it. It's Nicholas Cage, Laura Dern, Willem Dafoe, Diane Ladd, Crispin Glover...great cast. I thought the love story between Cage and Dern was amazing, sweet, hot, and, passionate. There was a lot of chaos surrounding them, but, nothing made their love sway. It is not a movie for everyone, but, I thought it was really good.

Has anyone seen King Kong, yet? I don't know that it will be a favorite of mine, but, I do want to see it in the theaters. I like the story and I know the special effects will be good, if nothing else. And, I really like Naomi Watts...I like Jack Black's comedy a lot, too, but, not sure if I'll dig him in this role. Oh, yeah, I saw that. I LOVED IT. But, my brother and I watched it twice and then spent a couple hours online reading up about it. It's a really twisty movie. But, I can tell you in a pm why the ending is so jacked up. Ha ha. It's actually the beginning that's really twisted. ;) There are still a lot of things that don't make a lot of sense, but, I guess it's not really too important and Lynch has a way of making movies so that a lot of the meanings are up for interpretation, shall we say. ;) It was the first movie I'd seen Watts in, and, he usually does that...picks actors that aren't famous. She was incredible in that movie. The scene where she auditions for the part, man that was intense. And, I love the scene in the theater where the lady sings "Cryin" in Spanish. It's so haunting! Great movie, though.

Hostel. Wow. It's not the absolute scariest movie I've seen, and, it does take a bit to get into the scary part, while it introduces you to the city, the characters and the story...but, I liked it. It's graphic sexually (lots of women's frontal views) and graphic like you wouldn't believe in the torture scenes. There aren't as many torture scenes as I'd anticipated...but, the ones that are shown are incredibly realistic. The fear depicted, though, is what is really intense. I mean, it's exactly how I'd expect a person to react to finding themselves in that type of situation, I really felt for the people, and, it was pretty scary and sad, like...I can't imagine being in a situation even remotely close to that...it was pretty awful. Not for the weak stomached, that's for sure. I give it a thumbs up. It's a documentary which I think is from Austria. There are sub-titles. It's about these people who treat their animals like humans. So I decided to rent it. Well, it was soooo depressing. Some of the people treated their animals like crap (hitting them, and getting a little kinky with them). There was one scene that had a ferret with a broken back!

It was poorly filmed. Everything was bleak and cold. There was no point to this film except I wanted to go to Austria and save these animals.

Please, for the love God, don't ever rent it. You'll be very very sorry.

Oooo...I want to see both of those. My friend has The Constant Gardener on DVD, so, I'll be watching that...and, I really, really, really want to see Brokeback Mountain at the theater. My friend said it was a really beautiful love story, and, I love both of the actors. So, I'll be going to see it soon. I'll be bringing a hankey. ;)

I saw The Chronicles of Narnia the other day, and, really enjoyed it. I really liked the actor who played the faun. Very handsome, and, I thought he was really good in the movie. It's been forever since I read the books, I need to get them and read them again. I hope they make the rest of the books, too, as this was a fun movie.

I believe his name is James McAvoy, he is cute, he is a lovely scottish man,, i have not seen the film yet, will wait until its out on video.

Watched Bridget Jones Diary, on the Telly last night, the first one, i have seen it before and the second one, and I absolutely love them, I don't watch many films over again, but could watch it time and time again, of course I am hopelessly in love with both Hugh Grant and especially Colin Firth, and I really enjoy Renee in these movies, I hope they make a third, I will be first in line to see it. :)

Yeah, I looked up his page on www.imdb.com and what a doll. I didn't even notice that he was scottish, though...that only makes him hotter. ;) that's got to be my favorite accent.

Daughter Missy and I went to see Brokeback Mountain this afternoon and I really liked it and yes, it made me cry. I read the Annie Proulx story first and am glad I did since it explained some of the things in the movie that I might have missed.

My friend said she cried so hard. I know I will. Love stories like that always get to me. I can't wait to see it. I already have a date to go with me, too. So, he'll get to see me bawling like a little baby. ;)

YES!!! I absolutely love it :)
The movie is full of characters who probably represent many of the neuroses we all have! Talk about dysfunctional - the movie is like a parody. HA!! They are irritating and lovable :)

The Stone family consists of three sons and two daughters. The plot is the gathering of the members for a Christmas visit. The leading son is bringing home his very uptight and neurotic fiance - who the family has pretty much decided that they hate might dislike and are against the marriage of the two. The family includes the mom who reminds me of a ditzy yet smart Donna Reed or Martha Stewart. The dad is a loving sterotype of "every-dad". One daughter is separated from her hubby and has a precocious daughter. Youngest daughter is gossipy and spoiled - spreads negative reviews of the fiance and is the one who is displaced from her room to accomodate the guest. Another brother brings home his partner who is a nice calm person who trades recipes with the mom. The final son is a laid back, funny and non-judgemental prodigal who befriends the fiance.

I found the whole plot hysterical and loved every silly ( and bitter-sweet) event in the movie. Something for everyone!! It was like eavesdropping on a few days in the life of a family with all the problems we all have. I hope you watch it Carole :) We plan to buy it once the DVD is out - will be fun to rewatch each Christmas season.

Kari, did David Lynch do Maholland Drive (not sure if I spelled that right) Did you see that movie? It had Namoi Watts in it. To this day I'm still trying to figure out the ending of that movie. ;)

I saw that movie - I remember watching it but it made no sense to me. I sat there confused at the end!

I saw Red Eye the other day - that was pretty good. Also the Wedding Crashers, I really enjoyed that one :D

I went to see Brokeback Mountain on Sunday with a few friends for my birthday. It was good, but I literally couldn't understand half of the things Heath's character said (sheesh, I forgot his name already!) since he mumbled so much. I want to watch it again after it comes out on DVD, and I do think it is good enough to buy. I didn't cry, but I don't usually cry the first time around when I watch movies unless if I'm alone. Like with the Notebook, the first time it was like I just reviewed it, and then every time after that I have cried :p I think I get distracted by my friends and family so I don't pay enough attention to it.

My dad really wants to take me to it, but isn't sure if it is appropriate for me. I can see rated R movies but it really depends. So is there anything nasty or anything in it?

There are a few sex scenes. It would be a really uncomfortable movie to watch with a parent...

This is the one with Mark Wahlberg. He and his 3 brothers are adopted and their adopted mother is killed.

I know what movie you're talking about. It's called Two Brothers. That one made me cry and cry and I didn't think it was appropriate for young people - too sad. I give it 1 star.
