I have a problem, and need some advice if anyone can help me! We have a 1 yr. old rat terrier(female). We recently went on vacation, and she got sick, tonsilitis. We stayed put for 2 days until she was doing alittle better. We started back home, and all she wanted to do was to have me hold her. I did! When we returned home she was doing much better, and this has been about a week ago that we got home. Now she is not the same precious little girl. She is not as playful, not as fun, open to new things as she was. She wants to have me hold her all the time, she won't even go to my husban, she used to play with him all the time..She is eating, not as much, and she is doing everything right as far as potty and all, but now I am worried about her. Anyone have any thoughts as to what is going on with her? I would appreciate any input on this. PLEASE!
Thank you,
Tony, Tricia

She's probably just still sulking some. Has she been to the vet and is otherwise okay physically? Our old St. Bernard would take a week sometimes before she'd "forgive" my mom for going away, or more precisely, several days before she'd even let Dad pet her if he's the one who dropped Mom off at the bus stration, airprt or whatever.

We took her to the vet while on vacation, got her meds, and shots. She has finished all and seemed to be doing much better, until we got home. I just don't understand it. I have been looking online to find some kind of material on the rat terrier, to see what kind of temperment they have and try to figure this out.
Thanks, Tricia

hi there I also own a Rat Terrier...you can find lots of very usful information on the Rat Terrier association website....I know that when Little Bit(my Rat Terrier) gets sick he does sulk for a few days I just got back from vacation with him yesterday and he is not quite his self yet sleeping alot etc. but that is just his personality I hope that your rat is feeling better soon

My guess is that she is just sulking and not feeling too good. I hope that she gets better soon!

We have a Rattie too... and sometimes she does just get a Rattitude problem! :D
Our Holly is very sensitive to different things. She will suddenly decide the TV is too loud for her, and choose to go to her bed whenever we watch TV. This will last for a few days, and then she is goes back to normal sitting with us on the couch. She will also do this (go to her bed) if she doesn't feel quite herself, rather than wanting extra attention, like I would think she would want if she wasn't feeling well.
It might also be an adjustment to being back home after being on vacation? Her everyday "normal" life was changed being on vacation... and if she still isn't feeling completely well she might just be feeling uneasy. Maybe another vet check would be a good idea to make sure she doesn't need another round of med if she doesn't perk up soon?
