Dixie's Aunt Jazz is really sick and they can not figure out what is wrong. She has been running a temperature around 104.5 for about 2 weeks now and has had numerous tests done. All to no avail. She is not eating and has lost 5 pounds already. She was not overweight so this is really serious. She is drinking though so she is not dehydrated.

It started with her fever and noticeable pain when she walks. It seems the pain shifts from leg to leg which usually is a sign of Lyme disease. Blood tests came back negative for Lyme's. A host of other blood tests were done but everything comes back okay. They have even drawn fluid from the joints in her legs hoping that would tell them something. But again everything came back normal. Yesterday she was seen by two specialists and they are also stumped on what is going on.

Currently she is on a very high dose of prednisone, antibiotics, and leg wraps. Currently the specialists want to wait for the medicine to kick in and hopefully have whatever is causing the problems to manifest it's self more clearly. With the fever and her not eating it makes it more difficult to diagnose supposedly. :(

Please pray for her that the doctor's will find out what is going on so she can get the right treatment. Pray she starts eating so she doesn't wither away to nothing and make things even worse.

I am taking Dusty over their house today to play with Dixie's brother, Blaze since he is full of energy and doesn't understand why Jazz is not playing with him. Poor baby boy is very confused on what's going on.

Oh I will say a prayer for poor Jazz :( Her owners must be becide themselves with worry. It's hard to see them in pain and sick, but to not be able to help them is the worst feeling. I am so sorry for her owners :(

Are they sure it's not contagous, whatever it is? I don't want to sound cold, but I would hate for Dusty to be at risk of contracting anything.

Good luck Jazz....I will be praying that they find out what's wrong and be able to perscribe something that will make you all better :(

Prayers are out for Jazz. I hope something fixable shows up soon. It is so horrible when you don't know what's going on and how to begin to treat it. Paws crossed for a quick recovery.

We all here are crossing our paws and praying with all our might that the Drs. find the cause of the illness and that beautiful Jazz is back on all fours very, very soon. How sweet of Dusty to fill the lonely spot that Blaze is experiencing right now. All our love to Jazz and her family during this frightening time. Love, Sandra, Cody and Star

Poor Aunt Jazz! I hope they contact good veterinary research places/schools for ideas and help - Tufts is near us, in Grafton, MA, and they were a real help a friend of mine.

I just got back from letting Dusty play with Blaze. They had fun. Dixie visited with Aunt Jazz a little but even though she wasn't feeling well, Jazz wanted to be where the action was.

She has patches of fur shaved off her elbows, and almost every other joint area on her body. She was very shakey but didn't like being left out with company there. We did not stay long so she would relax and take it easy.

She was responding a little better to the new medicine. It is doxycycline (sp). The specialist thinks that even though she tested negative for Lyme disease, that is probably what she has. They supposedly have seen cases where they test negative but actually do have the disease.

She will be on the doxycycline for a month. Hopefully she is on the road to recovery. I will keep everyone posted and thank you for continued prayers for her.

That's what I was thinking, Candy. My Jingles had Lyme's disease and the symptoms sounded so familiar. Hopefully Jazz will continue to respond to the medication. What a brave Golden!! And what a wonderful, loving, caring family!") Hugs and kisses to you beautiful Jazz.

Dixieland Dancer,

Thank you for the update on Aunt Jazz.
Just wanted to let you know that she is
in my prayers also.
I have heard of dogs testing negative but
yet actually have the disease. Sounds like
the Vet care Jazz is getting is excellent.

You & all your Golden family will be in
my thoughts and prayers. Liz.

Aunt Jazz was back to the vets yesterday for more blood work. She is still not doing much better. They did manage to get some food in her but not a whole lot.

There are several specialists now conferring over the internet on what could be wrong. I guess the regular vet has contacted several other vets from different places like tufts and such and they wanted to check for a few different things that haven't been checked for yet.

Poor baby is turning into a pin cushion. Please continue to say prayers for Jazz. This is just too baffling! They continue on the Doxycicline just in case it still turns out to be Lyme disease. Unfortunately it hasn't started to help yet. :(

That is so, so sad. I am so sorry that anyone has to go through with this :( To not have any idea what it is must be worse then anything! Poor, sweet Jazz :( And poor parents of Jazz :( I will continue praying for Jazz real hard. That's just so difficult.

Come on Jazz...get better, you can do it, I know you can!

She is still running a fever and not eating enough. Every now and then they can get a 1/4 cup of something into her but she has lost 7 pounds so far. :(

Kathi and Bob are taking her to Ohio State School of Veterinary medicine today for bone marrow tests. Blood tests come back negative for cancer but several conferring vets on the internet (including Tuft's I believe) want the marrow test since the pain is affecting her joints.

I just don't know how much more the poor girl can take in being a pin cushion. :(

I am attaching her picture so you know who I'm referring too!

Dixie on the left when she was a little over a year, Aunt Jazz in the middle and Dixie's brother Blaze on the right.
