TopCat1 and TopCat2 for annual check-ups

Well that time has rolled around again, on Friday we go for the annual health check. No vax this year, I've decided, they are indoor cats and never boarded. I've been reading too many scarey articles and lost a beloved cat 7 years ago, to a fibrosarcoma I believe initiated around the injection site. TopCat1 is 16 now, she'll have dentistry and blood tests soon and hopefully she'll be fine and spend more years with me, I keep telling her we are ageing gracefully together. Hopefully she won't lose any more teeth. TopCat2 will be booked in for a dental clean also. Let's hope that's all, just nice comfortable routine preventative/monitoring stuff, no nasty surprises. And TopCat3, who does all the work to pay for this, all the feeding, all the litter-changing, will wait for the rest of her dentistry...;) And guess what - the Vet's name is Dr Catt! - they only see cats at this place too!:D

Good luck TopCat 1 and TopCat2. I tend to agree with you regarding the vaccinations. Rusty and Fluffy had Rabies and I think it was Distemper at the same time last year and boy did they both have terrible reactions. It looked like they were in severe pain, could hardly move around and were very down for 24 - 36 hours. I called the vet and was told some cats experience this. Well, I never want to put mine through that again. Also, years ago, I had to have my beloved Tasha PTS because she developed cancer and I believe it was due to years of vaccinations. TopCat3, isn't it great the way we put our "kids" before us. Hope you get to have your dentistry done too. Best wishes for a normal, routine check up with no surprises! What a great name for a Vet!!!

I stopped giving vaccinations to my two years ago. They are senior kitties, strickly indoors, and like yours, never boarded. I say you are making the right choice.

Thanks, Slick, for validating my decision. All this fear-mongering by the drug companies makes me so angry - vested interests. That they do it to humans is bad enough but to play on our love for our beloved furry friends ... don't get me started!:mad:

The annual check went quite well, just as an update for Slick and Furrykidsmother, thanks for your interest. Colette (TopCat 2) has to have one or two teeth removed as a priority and cleaning and Cleo (TopCat 1 ) will have hers cleaned a week or so after as well as full blood tests now she's older. We suspect some onset of kidney problems due to her drinking and some weight loss and slight dehydration and one kidney feeling somewhat smaller than usual. Dr Catt isn't too concerned at this stage as her bloods/urine were OK last time and in all other respects she is very well, but it's probably time to start managing it with diet, once we have test results and know where we're at. I know we all have to face this, but I watch her ageing and feel so ... well, you know. Thanks for your interest.

Glad to hear that overall the check ups went well. Sorry to hear that Colette will have to have tooth removal though. Hope all goes well with Cleo's bloodwork. Keep us posted and thanks for the update!
