When we first got Rachel her fur was rough and nasty feeling. I figured it was because of her diet, and the fact that she was mainly an outside cat. Well this morning I woke up, and started petting Rachel, her fur is soft and shiny (almost as shiny as Cubby's) Her fur now looks healthy. Is it because of the food, or is it because she is now an indoor cat, or is it a little bit of both? I am really starting to wonder.
When I first got Cubby he was on very cheap food. I didn't know there was better quality food out there. When I took him to the doctor, and he was on perscription diet, I didn't think there was anything better than that.
Last month I switched them over to Nutro max. I haven't noticed a change in Cubby's fur at all. But like I said there is a huge change in Rachels fur. I love feeling her soft fur now. :) Before I always had to wash my hands after petting her. :(

When Samantha and I finally got to belong to one another, her fur was awful!! Dull, thin and eekie.. She was outside most of the day and eaten up with fleas, not being fed or taken care of.
Now, less than a year later, she is so stunning, fattened up, thick, black, shinney, soft, soft fur.. Even her former owner is amazed at the differance in how she looks and feels.
PROPER regular diet, being kept inside, no fleas, and loved makes all the differance in the world.

My fur is silky smooth, and I'm outside a lot! I think it has to do a lot with the food, and also, if the cat go outsdie, where they go! My uncle Thomas spend most of his day hunting in the forrest, and his fur is quite often "thick" (as in a bit oily and you feel dirty after petting him)... he gets good cat food and fresh bolied fish (could possible have something to do with the fish too...?)

I think it has a lot to do with both, Katie.
this isn't an example of a cat but my sister just feeds her dog Ol Roy or Beneful and he sheds like a banshee. When my parents have to keep him my mom always keeps him blocked in the area where they have lineolum. (well - for other reasons also - he still pees at the drop of a hat) and there is black hair everywhere. My mom ususally has to clean the entire downstairs just b/c she feels ickky.
My sister's house has black hair all over it. I have to wash my hands after I pet him..
Now when Keegan goes over to my parents house she has full run of the house - bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, living/family rooms. Everything but sleeping on the beds. My mom doesn't even sweep after we leave unless we have been there for longer then a few days..
My mom has never allowed us to have pets in the house as kids. So when I first got a dog and she allowed it in the house it was a big deal. When I got Keegan - she always stayed in her crate when noone was there or blocked in the hallway when we were gone. After I started letting Keegan out of her crate at home, mom said she didn't need to be in a crate at their home either. What I feed Keegan??
started out on science diet or Diamond or Nutro or Sensible Choice or Royal Canin. Now she is on the perscription diet for her weight.
I feed the kitties Science Diet. Both of them are soft and shiny. :)
