I am having a very hard time right now.
My parents manage a hotel and RV park in Oregon. They have been there for about 12 years. Today I got this email from my mom:
we have been advised that the place is sold and we are to be out on June 24. Jeff is sending up one of the other managers to work for us the week of June 20, so we can back.
That is all I know for now.
Mom
They found this out TODAY.. and only have this much notice to pack up their entire life (they live on site) and leave.. plus help the "relief" that the current owner is sending there on Monday. I've told my mom to call a lawyer because honestly is only 9 days notice legal??? She said she would do that today..
I'm in a panic right now. I've been a student for a long time and my parents have had a job where they were able to send me money every month to help me with rent. They will no longer be able to do this, and I won't have a home anymore. I make little money - I'm working on it and I have a new job lined up but they can't give me any shifts until probably July.. I'm just in training right now. My parents have lived on site since they moved there, and have no equity, no property to call their own. I just don't know what to do..
Please pray that my family will get through this, and if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Naomi,
I'd have your parents contact a lawyer. I believe legally they have to give your parents 30 days notice to vacate. It takes at least 3 months to evict someone.
You and your parents are in my thoughts and prayers, honey!!

How awful!!! :( :(
I'm so sorry this had to happen to your family. I hope your parents get in contact with a lawyer.
If the place is sold, why hire a new guy?! Seems fishy to me.

They aren't hiring anyone new, just bringing in someone so that it can free up my parent's time to pack up their stuff. It's just to cover the office so that they don't have to be married to the phone.
Donna, I told my mom to contact a lawyer.
Thanks, everyone :(

Oh, what a dreadful situation to be in! :( I can hardly believe it's legal to vacate your parents that fast, so I'd also say, contact a lawyer immediately!! Did your parents get a contract when they first started?
Sending good thoughts to you and your parents.

Naomi, I'm going to hope and pray that everything will work out for your parents and for you. What a horrible way for them to handle this!!!

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about this. I can't believe this would be legal either. I hope your parents contact a lawyer. Were they even aware that the place was going to be sold in the first place? The circumstances to seem fishy. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers too.

It will take them at the very least 3 months to evict your folks, I think they should take their sweet time.

That can't be legal, at all. I know when you have a lease, your notice is the same as how you pay. If it's weekly, you get a weeks notice, monthly, months notice, but in this case, I have no idea.
Do they even have a place to go? If they are up to it, I wait it out, take the 3 months and have time to re-group, find a new home etc.
I wish them and you the best.

That's terrible, I hope that everything works out. We went through almost the same thing last year. Landlords can certainly be pains!

Oh man what a bad situation.......I can't believe they did that to your parents. That is not nearly enough time to find a new place to live. I hope things will work out of you and your family, Naomi.

Sounds fishy to me. In CA they can give a 3-day notice for failure to pay rent, but otherwise the norm is 30-days. Get a lawyer quick!
Oh Naomi, I'm so sorry :( Your family must be horribly stressed right now. You have my every prayer. I really hope that whatever happens will be for the best and everything works out for you guys.
Please let me know if you need anything at all :(

Thanks guys. The thing is it isn't a landlord they are dealing with - they live on site at the place they work and therefore are being kicked out because they no longer have a job at that place, and they aren't being allowed to stay long enough to pack their belongings. It's so frustrating :(
Thanks.. I know PT prayers work so please keep them coming.

I am so sorry to hear this bad news.
I know here, they have to give you a 3 months notice in regards to moving. Nine days just is NOT enough time for anyone.
Prayers and positive thoughts on the way to you Naomi.

Hey everyone..
I just got back from Oregon last night. I was able to help them pack up my room and go through my stuff in storage, and also get some other things packed up with them. They are leaving sometime today and will be in Canada on Monday. They have a job interview in Calgary on Thursday this coming week so that is a very good thing! Please send them lots of good luck prayers that the interview works out and that this job will be right for them. I really feel that this is where my mom wants to live as she has most of her family there.
Thanks for keeping me and my family in your thoughts :)
Naomi
PS - I brought home two cats with me so mom and dad didn't have to travel with all 4 cats plus the dog in the car.. so I have Haven home (yay!) and Sox (who is like a tabby Garfield). I will see if I can take some pictures :D
