Just a little update on Riley (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81277)..
Whatever got her and made her face blow up with hives is still in her system. My mom said this morning hives were popping up above her eyes..
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/Rileylab5/6-12/6-12019.jpg
and now we notice that her ears (especially her left one.. when her snout turned into one big hive last time the left side was the biggest) are really thick.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/Rileylab5/6-12/6-12006.jpg
Luckily the vet was in her office today doing paperwork so my mom took her in and she gave her a slow acting shot of prednisone and a fast acting one.
She just looks really tired and sad. She's not herself at all. Today is the 4th day she's had this allergic reaction, the vet said she's never seen one go on this long. Dr. Kyle told my mom that they don't know what they are going to do about her shots next year, they're considering giving them seperate.. then pre-meding her with benedryl and then keeping her there for a while to watch her.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/Rileylab5/6-12/6-12017.jpg
She also has a rash of red blotches on her tummy and inside her ears. That.. along with her chronic ear infection. Poor girl :(

Poor Riley. She looks so sad. Not used to seeing her that way. I hope they can figure out how to get her well soon.

I'm guessing it might have been prednisone that the vet gave her.
Poor Riley. She definitely has that *woe is me* look. I hope that her system will get on top of this soon.

Poor Riley!!! I really hope you start feeling better soon...
Poor sweetie pie.
If your vet is sure the reaction was caused by the shots.
I would ask your vet if it is even necessary for Riley to
have them every year and maybe try every-other year
and separating them as he suggested.
You might want to ask him about using Killed
vacines whenever possible or if their are other
alternatives to the shots such as Nosodes.
(I am not familiar with Nosodes, but I know
some anti shot people use it)
(excluding Rabies which are required by law)
Sheba in the last couple of years
I chose to giver her the Puppy shot instead of the 7&1.
Because of her old age, is skipping her
shot this year all together, untill the next year.
Give Riley lots of (((HUGS)))

She's not doing any better today. Today is the 5th day she's had the reaction. Her ears are still a little thick, the insides of her ears are really red and infected, and she just sleeps all day and has little or no reaction to anything. She doesn't want to play, and she's drinking a TON so she has to go outside a lot. You can really tell she's not feeling good :(

Kristen, I hope this is okay what you PM'd Me :)
It seems like she's a little more awake.. but she's still laying around the house and not wanting to do anything. She's not causing trouble, doesn't want to be chased (!), isn't playing with her toys at all...(except she will take a greenie or rawhide stick if we give it to her.)
She's still acting a little weird though. A few days ago, our neighbor's newfie got out (she's huge) and ran into our yard and stopped a few feet in front of Riley and Riley squealed/yelped like her tail got chopped off. She didn't even touch her. The vet people said the pretnezone is probably making her edgy.
My mom also took her for a little walk today and they stopped to see this lady and her dog (riley knows them). Apparently, Riley was growling and acting a little aggressive toward the dog. That is not like her AT ALL. She is the sweetest, friendliest dog ever.
So yeah, overall she is acting a little better but she still isn't herself.. we know she's calmed down a lot since she turned 1, but she's been acting like she's 10 years old. Hopefully in a week she'll be back to normal.

Thanks so for the update:)
I'm sure it's probably just the pred talking when she gets a little nasty. I know when my RB Keisha took it she was very moody.
Hope your girl is feeling better very, very soon!!!

That reaction to shots sure knocked Riley for a loop. Every time
I see Riley's pic, I think of my Maggie being that sick & it makes
me sad. I sure hope she gets a little better every day, so she can
be the happy pup she was.

I was surprised to see this thread bumped up a few times.. thank you for caring so much about Riley :)
We think she is starting to get a little better each day but its hard to tell... she's not getting any worse though. I got her to run a little bit both inside and outside the house but I could tell she didn't have much energy because soon after she was panting and just standing around. When dinnertime came she was pretty bouncy because I made her do some tricks before I put her bowl down. She's still not playing with her toys, but she'll welcome any greenies/rawhide sticks we give her.
She's not swollen at all now. Her ear infection varies day by day, but once she's feeling better we are going to switch her food in case of allergies. She's still just laying around the house all day though. (It's really hard to tell how mopey she is because once she turned one year old she aged about 3 years.)
She's weaning off her pretnezone and some heartburn prevention pill (so she doesn't get an ulcer from the med) so she'll probably feel a little bit better after she gets off those.
thanks for all the get-wells! :)

I'm so glad to hear that things aren't getting any worse. As for her getting panty and tired after just a little running, I would think, after so many days of inactivity, that it would wear her out to play. You'll have to recondition her to it a little at a time. I hope it was nothing more than just a strong reaction to the shots, and, that you guys won't have to go through that again! That's crazy what you said about her aging three years once she turned one. Finn's hasn't "grown up" at all, and, he's 18 months. Ha, I guess that's the difference between boys and girls (and, Riley is probably spayed, like a good girl....Finn's surgery is scheduled for the 28th). Anywho......I'm so glad you saw this thread, and, that things are getting a little better! :)
