Boomer has a wierd growth thingy on his chin that is concerning me. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I don't want to take any chances so he has an appt with the vet in 30 minutes. It will be quite an adventure bringing a newborn and a cat to the vet with me, but it'll work out with Tyler in his stroller and Boomer's carrier strap slung over my shoulder. I'll let you all know how it went when I get home.

Oh Missy I am glad you are getting that checked. It looks like when Emily had feline acne but now you will know for sure. I hope everything goes well.

you are quite adventurous taking a newborn and a cat out. LOL Good Luck. Fingers, toes, paws and whiskers crossed that the strange growth on Boomer's chin is nothing serious.

Could be a rodent ulcer...nothing to do with the rodents.

It's technical term is Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex
This may not be what Boomer has...but it's a possibility. Keep us posted, and good luck carting baby, kitty, and recovering mom to the vets! ;)

We're home!
The vet said that it looked like he just had a scratch or something that got infected and got all crusted over. I have to pill him with Clavomox 2x a day for the next week and that should clear up the left over nastiness. She explained how to pill him, but it sounds so awful:eek:  I really just drop it in there and hold his jaws shut till he swallows??? That will be more of an adventure than carting both of my boys to the vet was.
Anywho, she said to call if it gets worse or starts to bother him.
The appt and the meds were only $9!! Did I get an awesome deal or is that normal for a same day sick call and antibiotics?

That is what I do Missy - and it usually goes right down! I think Boomer will be good about it - at least the first few times - let us know.
Maybe some others here have special ways to pill a cat:p

All the best for Boomer- I am glad it's nothing serious!
9$ really sounds incredibly cheap. I know that the vets here in Germany are cheaper than the US vets (in things like tooth cleaning etc.) but Japan sure beats us:)

hee hee it's a military perk Barbara!! The serving in the military does not pay well in money but it dopes have perks like this. Baby Tyler's whole hospital stay plus mommy Missy's csection and care came to about $40 - hows THAT for a bargain??
Hope that sore on Boomer heals up soon Missy!!!

Missy:
My vet claims that when you get the pill in their mouth, hold their jaws shut and blow in his face. She said that some kind of a pet psychologist told her to do that and she said IT WORKS! I haven't had the opportunity to try it, but you might wanna.
Glad to hear the vet visit went well . . . must have been an adventure carting a cat & baby!!! See, you're already a super mom!!! ;)

I rub their chins and blow in their faces. Blowing in faces makes them swallow pretty much on demand. :)

I say that's the least we could do for our young people who are serving in the military! Especially since, like you say, the pay itself isn't the best.
Glad Boomers growth isn't serious and what a trip that must've been with your boys. :D

Oh my $9 at my vet is for a medication. Normal vet trip $40 (average) for an office call not including medications.

I use to rap gigi in a towel to do that so she couldn't fight me. Kind of like swaddling;)

Holy Cow! I had Mimi by c-section 10 weeks ago and our bill, after insurance, was around 2G! Those in the armed services definitley deserve it though.

We had to give our Hana some monsterously huge pills a few months ago and we bought a pill popper from the vet. It looks like a syringe without the needle. You pull back the plunger, stick the pill in the other end, put that end into kitty's mouth and tap the plunger. We'd then squirt water down her throat with another syringe and that did the trick 80% of the time.

What I do is also give them a kiss on their little kitty lips while holding their jaw shut and stroking their neck in a downward direction; i.e., the direction in which I want them to swallow. That usually surprises them so much, they can do nothing BUT swallow and wonder what meowmie is doing to them. Of course they are also experts at stashing the pill in their cheeks or under the tongue and will spit it out the moment you release them - watch for this! Mishi did it to me this a.m., but I'm up to his wiley ways! Good luck!

Boomer is such a good natured kitty :) He fought me for a few seconds, but was happy as a clam after he swallowed the first pill. He spit out the second pill a few seconds after I gave it to him, but after the second attempt he kept it down.
Good Boomer!

Wow Missy! You really are a brave girl! I hate taking my cats to vet alone much less bringing a newborn! Super Mom indeed!!!!:D
I'm glad Boomer's booboo wasn't too bad and great news that he's taking his meds like a good boy.
I hope your chin gets all better real soon Boomer!!
