Help!!!!!!

I have a 2 year old male Shar-pei. He is the light of my eye. The best boy in the world except for his one flaw. He likes to pee and poop on my floor every night. No matter how long he's out before bed it never fails. I wake up go downstairs and there's surprises for me (not really much of a surprise anymore). I don't know what to do. I can't image not having him sleep upstairs with me because I have to lock him in the kitchen to save my carpet, but I can't have a stinky house. Other than this problem, he is the best dog I've ever had. I love him to death but I can't take much more of this problem. Please help someone!

He will need to be crated at night. Is there room in your bedroom for one?

Don't feed him anything in the evening, no treats, no late snacks. Walk and walk him, praise him endlessly when he "goes" outside and get him really used to the idea that outside is the only potty area. Clean the spot he usually does it with special stuff from the pet store that eliminates all trace of the odor. And you might consider crating, as mentioned, or not allowing him in your room at night for a time. Can he get in and out of the room, or is the door closed? How close to bedtime does he get to go out, and how early do you and he get up and out?

I can't do that. He doesn't like closed doors. and if I lock him up now he wont make it through the night. I could lock him up downstairs so he can't see me but if he sees me he'll cry all night and I won't get any sleep. I totally can't crete him I was going to do that when he was a puppy but he cried bloody murder everytime he was locked and he was so good with potty training that I felt he didn't need it. If I do it now it just won't work. I think I could lock him up in the laundry room downstairs but I fear for my doors. He really is a good boy he just pees and poops and it's only at night. Is there another option other than crateing him. It's too small of a place and he will not be happy.:(

I work at 6am and he goes out about 10:30pm. He has no food after 6:30pm. The water thing I live in Vegas. I leave the water. Everytime he's out he gets a million good boys. I even take him to the park at night to make sure he has a nice long walk. I'm trying everything and like I said crating him really isn't an opition. If you know Byron, you'd understand. Locking him up in the kitchen with a baby gate is one or in the laundry room is another.

I know it's hard to crate train a dog but it can be done. All four of mine I had to train. The worst was my puppy Cody. She screamed bloody murder but the only thing you can do is ignore it. Her crate is her sanctuary now.

You can start slowly by feeding your dog in his crate so he learns that it is not a bad place. That's if you are willing to be patient with him.

The only alternative is to lock him up in a small room as the previous poster stated. Good luck.

I had similar difficulty with Maggy (Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix). My problem is that I paper trained her during a wonderful Chicago winter (8 week old puppy and -30 degree temps don't mix) and had a hard time with the transition of getting her to go outside once the weather warmed up.

The thing that worked for me is that I bought some of that special enzymic cleaner from the pet store that removed the odor, then I put her food in the spot where she always went. She hasn't gone there since.

Crate training,, it can be easy or oh lordy,, it can be hard,,, but only for a few days.. I sggest you go looking online for crating tips,, but IT CAN BE DONE!! honest,, you cant give in,, once you do,,,,, its VERY hard to get them trained,,,, Our Lucy cried bloody murder for 3 hours when she was a puppy and we were in the room with her the whole time,, but we just ignored her,,, the next night,, it was for 20 mins,, after that,, nothing,, now she gets in no problem!!

PS.. if andwhen you do go for the crate training,, as a precaution and polite tip,,,,, tell your neighbours and apoligise in advance for a possible sleepless first part of a few nights! We told our neighbours and man,, thye sure laughed at us the next day,, EVERYONE heard that lil 14 lb puppy scream!!! heheheheheheh

Tell you something to help crate train her. Go to the pet store and buy a kong. It is basically a big rubber ball/toy that has a hole in it. Put peanut butter in it and throw it in the crate with her. That will keep her busy and hopefully get her to where she won't mind being crated. The dog will get to the point that she will just drool everytime you tell her to get in.
