Hello Barbara.

This time it is serious and Mom said I should post to you in Cat Health. I am the worst I have ever been with my skin and today at 4:30, my Mom and Dad are taking me to a Cat Clinic, where they only deal with cats. I have a bare belly and my front and back legs look horrible. She said she wasn't even going to take a picture of me right now. :o

Would you please say a prayer for me, Barbara, and hopefully others will do the same. I'm sick of having to get crammed in that carrier every 2 months or so and have another shot, only to get messed up again. I hope my mom will get some answers today and that I will be better, soon.

Love,
The Itchy Buttercup

This is "Mom" reporting in, just to let you know that at least I have him in the house. Now to find him again around 4 PM to get him in the carrier to take him to the vet!
"Daddy" and I will figure out a way, and remember, Butter, it is for your own good that we do it. :p PLEASE!!!!!!!

Oh Butter, you sweet boy, I am terribly sorry for you.

Now we have to attack that systematically:

first: you be a good boy and let your mom get you in that box. I understand that you don't like it, being an independent cat, but it is over quickly and I am sure you get a treat once you get home.

Second: That sounds like a mighty fine clinic where she is taking you. I am sure they will be able to help you my dear little friend.

Third: All Pet Talkers will send their prayers, best thoughts and healing vibes.

We all are a little cramped these days because so many kitties and humans need crossed paws and fingers but you'll be on top of my list.

Many scritchies to you ( I know you will always be beautiful ;)) and hugs to your mom.

Sweet Buttercup....I am soooo sorry you are all itchy and not feeling well again. Lots and lots of good thoughts and get well vibes coming for you from meowmie Michelle, Lilith and me Vixen. We will keep all fingers, toes, paws and whiskers crossed that this time they can figure out what is wrong and get you all better real soon.

Buttercuppers, you poor baby. I do hope the new clinic will know just what you need to make you feel lots better. I'm thinking that the Mom is absolutely stressed out seeing your skin all inflamed like that. So try to do your best to cooperate for the trip and show the new vets how sweet and gentle a kitty you can be.

Oh poor Butterboy! I know how miserable it is to itch all the time.....and I just can't image you so sore that a photo is a bad idea....that's bad!

I will be thinking good thoughts that you find a good kitty dermatologist at the clinic!

My mother came home from work early, and I was peacefully asleep. She stroked me sweetly, then proceeded to pick me up and told me that I need to cooperate with her. What's that?

Anyway then she grabbed me by that skin on the back of my neck that just makes me completely fall apart and she stuffed me in that carrier and zipped me in! She says that we are leaving shortly to go to the vet and it was easier if Daddy didn't have to come home to help her. He's going to meet us there.

Oh dear, I hope this vet will fix me so I won't have to do this again for a long, long time. ****sigh****

Love,
Butter

Poor little Butter boy. :( I sure hope this new special vet can figure out what's making you itch like that. Will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way - and your meowmy and daddy's way. You be a good boy now because this is all just for you!

Well, I guess it always is a good thing to get a second opinion, even if it costs a bit more. Dr. Anderson was a kind and educated veterinarian, but her diagnosis is the same as what we have had. She did offer up some alternatives for us, though. She suggested that we try Science Diet X/D (dry and wet) to see if that helps his symptoms. It is quite expensive, so we will have to feed Mimi seperately. They have always had free feeding privleges, so it will be a bit tougher, but if it helps, then so be it. She also suggested that we give him 1/4 of a Claritin tablet, can't remember whether she said once or twice per day (but she did write it all down for me). And she said that there is a feline dermatologist that comes into town periodically who could do allergy testing, but she didn't sound too high on that.

Bottom line is that we will try the new food (wet and dry...wet food is $1.65/can and the dry is about $18 for a 5 lb bag) and in a week or so, we may choose to throw in the Claritin to ward off possible reoccurences of this problem. She gave him a steroid shot and also sent home Clavimox to administer twice per day and suggested we put it in his wet food, just a little bit at a time. After the way he treated me, she made sure to tell me not to attempt to give him this medication orally.

This is the first time that Buttercup has ever acted up at the vet, but my left hand looks like ground beef, on the inside of my hand and the outside. My camera is at work or I would share it with you. It is the worst he has ever gotten me. And I've always thought that Dr. Robinson probably thought I was lying because Butter is like Jello when we go to see him. He made sure Dr. Anderson saw his cattitude today. Scott was in there with me and said that I should have let him go. I did not want him to attack the technician and the vet!!!, so I interveneed and I have the bloody hand to prove it.

I liked her. Butter obviously didn't. :o

Butter says "thanks" for the good wishes. No one wishes that he could improve more than he does!!!!!! )

Butter's loving mom (and yes, I do still love him...just want him to feel better),

Logan, Poor Buttercup.:( I hope that the new food and claritin will be able to help his itchy skin. I also hope that your hand will heal quickly. Take care.

Have you ever heard of the cat and dog food Avoderm? I've seen it in most pet stores and it's supposed to help their skin. Here's a link about it: http://www.breeders-choice.com/Cat_Products/avodermcat.html.

Poor Butter and poor You.:( I do hope Butter's meds help him
clear this up quickly. Take care of your hand also. I had a small
scratch from playing "catch the finger" with one of my cats & it
hurt like heck till it healed. That was just one tiny scratch.

Poor Butter, let's hope this new food and the pills will help. You be a good boy and give your meowmie some headbumpies for what you did!

Meowmie's Paw is in pretty rough shape, especially this one spot where my tooth stuck in her hand. She says it is red and swollen. My daddy said that she has to go to the doctor and have it seen this afternoon because he is worried about her having an infection. :( I didn't mean to hurt her but she told me she still loves me anyway. Thank goodness. She's probably going to have to have a shot like I got yesterday. She will show you some pictures of her sore hand soon.

Love,
Butter(cup)

Oh Logan! Next time you better use a baseball glove!

I am sorry that the outcome was not more positive. I was searching the web today and also a homeopathic website. They had a forum (in German) where someone asked about a cat tearing her fur out. I immediately checked it but they didn't fnd a solution too:( They were even two cats- not getting along very well and probably being stressed:(

Ouwie!! :(

But in the Grande Scheme of Things ...
Those a just lil Luv Bytes! :p

Been a while since Boots managed to get  enough to
do that to me ...
but I not-so-fondly remember a nail-clippin session or two in
his "younger-years" that resulted in similar Toofie-marks and
skid marks on hands, arms, and legs! :(

Hope that Hand-Paw starts Feelin Better - SOON! ;)

I want those of you who have ever doubted whether Butter could really be so "bad" to look at these pictures! LOL!!! :p He definitely can inflict some pain when he wants to. This is the worst attack I have ever gotten from him, though, and at least this time he had a reason to be upset (because he was at the vet).

I'm going to survive. I have a severely infected hand and the doctor put me on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds, as well as giving me a Tetanus booster. The red had started moving up my arm by the time I got there, so I did do the right thing going in. And I do still love my Buttercup. :)

I would imagine that Buttercup has LOTS of stickers on his file, now, but bless their hearts, they just kept saying "poor little thing", over and over, just like I did, as I was pouring blood. LOL!!!!

Oh, I'm so glad that you went and got your hand looked after.
I pray that you will feel better very soon.

Poor Buttercup, I'm sure he didn't mean to do that and I hope and pray that the new food and medication has him feeling better real soon.

I hope you both feel better very, very soon! That gash on your hand looks as if it stings like nobody's business.

I hope the new diet and the medication work for Butter. That itch must be absolutely miserable.

My little buddy is awfully lethargic today, but he's eating and has gone outside a few times today. It was rainy this afternoon, a perfect time to nap. :)

Have you considered Allergies to something outside?

Met an English Bulldog owner who told of his dog's severe allergy
to GRASS - that common stuff that covers the yard!

She was always *itchin* & *scratchin* - and was destroying her
fur coat and leaving huge raw spots.
Off to the "Allergy Specialist" for tests.
Results: Allergic to many things, food and environmental -
but the most common and most difficult to avoid, was plain old GRASS!

The "fix" for the Grass allergy was weekly injections during the summer;
and monthly shots in the winter.

Just a thought - and maybe *thought of* already -
but with Butter's frequent OUTside excursions - I wonder if he
might be picking up the irritation in the Great Outdoors??

HOPE the poor Lil Kid starts to Feel Better!!
(Ditto for your Hand-Paw!!) ;)
