How does one go about introducing a new puppy to a cat that's been in the household a few years?

We had two cats, my older cat was 7. We introduced them by putting them all on the bed and just letting them get used to each other. We would also hold each of them and pet them side by side. Star (our puppy) really wanted to be friends, but the cats were less enthusiastic. We never forced them on each other. For a long time the cats would just disappear, but eventually, progress was made...
Star and Purdy...Star has a habit of trying to roll everyone over (still does it today)

Star is 8 now and I still have my older cat (not in the pics--he's 15. ) He tolerates Star, but doesn't really like her near him. Every cat is different- my son came to live with us and brought his kitten - she used to climb all over Star's head and play with her ears. Star loves cats! Just be sure to keep a close eye on them till you know how they're getting along. Good luck!
