Good day
I wonder if someone could help, I would like to know the Breed of this Cat? Or is it you normal Domestic Cat?
If someone could please let me know, just very curios as we got her from our SPCA, to me she does not look like the normal Domestic Cat, but I could be wrong............
Just curios................

HI and welcome.
Your cat is beautiful.
I would call that a Domestic Long Hair. A cat that could be mixed with any number of breeds, but has no pedigree.

Definatly a beautiful cat. A domestic Long hair is what she looks like to me. She looks like she is part Calico.

She looks like she is part Calico.
Calico isn't a breed, it's just a color marking.
She is a beautiful cat! I hope you stick around Pet Talk and post more pictures of her! I love her eyes. What is her name?
I agree that she is a domestic long hair, her coloring would be tortishell also called tortie.

Hello Chloe you are beautiful. :D She looks to me to be a domestic long hair dilute calico. She doesn't seem to have black but blue which would lead me to believe more than she is a dilute calico rather than a regualr calico. No matter what she is gorgeous. Keep those pics coming. We want to see lots of Beautiful Chloe.

Thank you, could someone please help me as this is the first time I have been on this site. I would very much like to send more pictures of Chloe, but Im no to sure how to do it on this site. It seems to only give me the option on my first message I posted to insert pictures and once I go in there it removes the original picture I sent and only allows for one. It only gives me the option on browsing files not inserting.
Thank You, Samantha

Welcome to Pet Talk! Chloe is beautiful! I'd call her a domestic long hair, color- Diluted tortoiseshell.
When you attach pictures you can only have one in each post.
If you upload your picture first to something like PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/), or imagestation (http://www.imagestation.com/index.html) you can post more than 1 picture. I'm sure other people can better help you.

Not true, a tortie CAN have white. The difference is the calico has splotches of white, red, and black or blue. A tortie doesn't have splotches, it's color blend and run together. The color pattern can be blended together, but then have some white on them too (not blended). It's a tortie and white, like IRescue452 said.

I don't personally care. You're right, she is a beautiful cat regardless of what color pattern she is considered, it doesn't really matter. You had wrongfully "corrected" someone else and I was just correcting you. It doesn't matter whatsoever to me.
I'm confused, what do you mean "splotches" is your term?

I'm sorry. :( This wasn't suppose to be an argument. All I wanted to do is state that a tortoiseshell cat can have white on it. It's kind of like a brindle dog, some have white on them and some don't. I didn't know that you used the word splotches. I still don't know where you used it, but I'm sorry, I should've used a different word.

I just found this-
"What is the difference between a Calico and a Tortoiseshell? And what in heck is a Torbie?
Goodness, a lot of questions there. :-)
The difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell is this:
With a calico, there is a significant amount of white, and the two colors are broken up into distinct patches. This has to do with the interaction of white spotting.
With a tortoiseshell, the three colors are blended and don't form distinct patches. A tortoiseshell may have significant portions of white as well, but the remaining colors are blended (this particular pattern is called a tortoiseshell and white).
A torbie, or patched tabby, is a tortoiseshell where the tabby pattern is very distinct all over the cat. A calico or tortoiseshell may have distinct tabby pattern on the red or cream patches (has to do with another gene we won't get into at this juncture), but no patterning on the other color. This isn't a torbie. A torbie is clearly patterned all over the cat -- though never on the white."

I know the debate on tortoiseshell and calico seems to have gotten pretty heated so I want to put my 2 cents worth in. Calico is a term that was "invented" by an american to explain the difference between the different patterns of a tortie.
U.S. term for tortieshell with white cat quoted from several cat books including The Complete Cat Owners manual and The Cat Encyclopedia. This term is relatively non-existent outside of North America. So please, no more disagreements as you are both stating the same thing.

I don't think Kim meant you can't use that word. She's just saying that's what she calls the markings, not what a vet or a breeder would call them. It's just a cute nickname. For example, when I was a little girl, I didn't know what torties were so I called them 'dark calicos' because I thought that's what they were. Even though I know the name now, I still call them dark calicos alot. You can use it if you want but it's not the correct term that a show breeder would use. In fact, a show breeder's face might turn the color of a 'dark calico' if you registered your kitty as that!

Definatly a dilute tortoiseshell and white! :) My RB cat, Sara, was a tortoiseshell and white. She was just a regular torti and white -- I do LOVE dilutes like your's though. Maybe I'll adopt one some day.
Here are a couple of pictures of Sara. :)

I would be interested in knowing if her personality is like that of my Giz.. Giz is a mischief prone clown that keeps me laughing. She just sits in the floor and L@@KS for something to get into. If it can be got into, climbed on, crawled into for a nap... Giz is the one that will do it. She is so amusing and entertaining and her coloring is beautiful. Her face is her personality. Check for other threads with pictures of her and get a good look to compare to your beauty..
(would someone point her to the how to post pictures thread? I have it saved to my computer at home but I am not at home)

Are you referring to me??? What did I do? I don't know why you are getting so defensive about the colour of the cat anyways. If you're implying that someone asked me to post here, well no one did. I don't even know KBlaix. Thanks for rolling your eyes at my dead cat. :(

I'm the only "dog person" who posted an opinion on colour, so I could only assume that it was somewhat towards me..If you're tired of all that, why are you getting angry in this thread about a cat colour? I was never "putting you in your place." I was just telling her what her cat was -- you did the exact same thing, as did a bunch of other people. So I happened to say she was a dilute tortoishell and white after you were angry at KBlaix has nothing to do with anything -- I wouldn't change my mind and suddenly say she's a calico just to spare your feelings, as I don't believe she IS a calico. I was just saying what I thought was true and in no way was I thinking about what took place the very few posts ahead of me. The thread was about the breed/colour of her cat, I told her what I best believed is the colour of her cat, as was asked, and I'm sorry that you think my post had something to do with you, but the thread isn't about you, it's about the cat, and my post WAS about the cat. If you are sad or angry about something else, please don't take out on the "dogpack" as you like to call them, with irrelevant topics. Start a new thread or talk tell some people how you've been feeling. I rarely come to the cat side because I feel like I don't fit in, and when I get someone that seems angry at me, it really hurts my feelings and makes me not want to come back, so sorry if I sound harsh or upset. And I'm sorry you are having a hard time.

Add to that all my cat friends who read but WIMPED out on posting on my behalf. I'm tired of caring for people with all of my heart and soul, yet never hearing from anyone unless they need a favor. I'm tired of people who hardly ever post on the cat side showing up suddenly and winning a contest ... then vanishing back to the dog side. I'm sick of injustice, selfish people, and groupies! I am trying my best to leave this place, and take my posts with me ... but Karen won't delete my account. Well, maybe now she will?
Now I am offended, and I'm sure a lot of others are too. I am a dog person & a cat person, if ya want to know I'm also a pet person with ferrets, rats & a hamster. So what should I get rid of some of my pets so I'll only be a one kind of pet person?
I don't post too often because I'm busy, its not becuase I want to put a "cat person" in their place nor is it because I just need a favor. I'm sure that is whay a lot of others don't post regularly too.
I don't know what is up with you but geesh, seems like you're on the edge, jumping at everyone that is commenting on your posts, especially the "dog people". I didn't see one thing wrong with the replies you got to your posts. All that happened is we actually verified the correct meaning of calico & torties. This site is supposed to be a caring helpful site. I personally saw no reason for your responses. I think they are immiture & uncalled for.
I'm a dog, cat & every kind of critter person & proud of it! Animals are animals & I don't descriminate against species, breed, age or sex, I love them all.
Edited to add that I don't discriminate against their owners either!

I'm a dog, cat, and pet person. I don't think it takes a cat owner to know what the colour is considered on that cat. I also don't see why pters think they are so split up by animal, most of the pters read the other sections too, there's no wall drawn up between the two.

All I know is that Chloe is adorable and beautiful, and that I would just love to touch that beautiful soft fur! I would also like to hear more about HER -
how is she adjusting to your family? have you had her long?
(and can someone find the 'how to post pictures' thread for Chloe's meowmie?)
if not - try this - short version -
go to this website - alot of us use it -
http://www.imagestation.com
you can create a free account and make 'albums' of your photos of Chloe.
Once you've uploaded your photos - open PT in ANOTHER window.
when you make a post - under the
vB Code [help] section on the post
(above the message box)
you will see a bunch of 'buttons' one says 'IMG'
click it, and it will open a window asking you to insert the text of where you photo is located
looks like *xxx* (without the *'s)
while this is open, switch over to the window on your PC that has your album on it. Choose the photo you want, 'open' it for viewing, and then RIGHT CLICK on it and open it's 'properties' box.
Look for the photos "Address " . copy that address ( it will look something like this - [url]http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid169/pb8d35c5cf84d4eff5b26071906ce972d/f414652a.jpg
and paste it into the windows' test line. click OK - and your text line should appear in you post like this -
(but without the *'s - if I didn't put those in, you would see a photo of my cat, Pixel)
*[IMG]http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid169/pb8d35c5cf84d4eff5b26071906ce972d/f414652a.jpg *
When you 'submit' your post, you photo will show up in the body of the message as a real photo - not an attachment. like this:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid169/pb8d35c5cf84d4eff5b26071906ce972d/f414652a.jpg
you can post as many as you like, and Image Station has no limit on how many pictures you can post there, either!
hope that helps!
Looking forward to MORE photos
of the lovely Miss Chloe!
Laura
PS -
I'm a 'dog person' who only recently became a 'cat person' because Pixel wandered into my home last winter and snuck into my heart. I know squat about cats - except that Pixel is now MINE, and I love him!

Please everyone I don't think this is a personal thing too all. It is just very frustrating sometime when 1 know it all tries to tell you not too nicely everything you think is wrong. And I am sure this was not directed at you wolfsoul or lv4dogs. If you read further back there are a few heated messages between KBlaix and kimlovescats. I am sure the irritation and frustration is due to the comments of the prior of the two. And just because someone does a quick search on the net doesn't mean they actually know what they are talking about.

Ok I have to post my two cents here. First off I know Kim was not making fun or trying to offend. She was just making a statment because we don't see very many people from DG in this section.
She was just trying to help with what Chloe is and its been taken very much out of context. Kim is actually a very amazing person who takes care of many animals. She is a cat lover by nature, but I also know she just loves animals period.
wolfsoul I know for a fact that Kim would never make fun of anyone's RB pets as she has lost a couple that were just as dear to her heart as your lovely Sara.
This may bother some people but I feel someone should stand up with Kim on this. She also isn't refering to people who lead a busy life its just mainly those who only come in when they want to make someone about two inches tall. Karen and Paul do their best to moderate the conversations, but unfortunately they can't catch every little tidbit that comes this way. Sorry but I side with Kim on this one.
Samantha welcome to PT and I must say Chloe is just darling. I would like to hear how you've come across her.

Samantha, I want to apologize to you for this mess that began on your thread, it should've never been. I hope this doesn't turn you away from pet talk, it is usually a wonderful place.
Chloe is a lovely cat and I'm sure you love her very much. My good friend has a cat named Muffin that looks like her. I babysit Muffin when my friend goes out of town. She is one of the most gentle cat's I've ever met. :)

Wow! I seriously cannot believe you. I have NEVER had a conversation with Wolfsoul, I don't know her at all. I don't know lv4dogs either. So please don't imply that I got them to come here and defend me. I don't need defending. I was just trying to post a comment and you jumped down my back. Good grief.
As far as the "cat side" "dog side" thing goes- I thought I was a part of the Pet Talk message board. Which contains 4 main parts, Dog, Cat, Pet, and Other. I didn't know I had to pick a certain section and stay there. Yes I tend to post much more in the dog section then in the cat section, but that shouldn't matter. I have 5 dogs, and 6 cats (plus 2 foster kittens), along with other pets.

I realise she wasn't trying to make fun, it just hurt my feelings.
I don't understand this at all. I guess I can't judge how Kim reacted to KBlaix because I haven't seen their past feuds. I just feel like I was singled out because I also post on the dog side. I thought that I was posting enough here that people would also recognise me as a cat person and not just someone from the "dogpack." I thought people here recognised Caleb...I don't post here often because things like this. Because people differentiate between "cat people" and "dog people" when we are really all just pet people. Kim says she is leaving...even so, I'm afraid that this singling out of groups will continue so maybe I'll just stick to my dog and rats and fish, and I'll stop posting pictures of Caleb for a while. But like I said, I don't understand what's going on here and what the fuss is about. I don't think this is just about a difference of opinion on the colour/breed of a cat...That was what my first post was about...And I was the only other dog person to post my opinion on the colour, therefore it's hard for me not to take it personally when the dogside is singled out right after I post. I don't see what I did wrong. :( Sorry to drag it on...I am just confused.

I'm just as baffled as you are. I have no idea how this started or what it's even about. Maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don't know. I guess I'm simply not welcome to post about my cats or respond to anyone else in the cat section, but I don't know why.
Hi Samantha! Chloe is GORGEOUS! I loooove dilute torties. I would have to agree with a few others, she looks like a DLH dilute tortie w/ white. I am no expert though. I fostered some dilute calicos before and they were the most precious little things.

Don't stress about it, Kari. You didn't do anything wrong. I've never seen you stir up an ounce of trouble anywhere on this forum.
I hope you don't feel unwelcomed posting anywhere. There are really only a select few that don't like "dog people" posting over here. The rest of them are very kind and welcoming though! I don't really understand why the few people keep trying to put seperations between Dog Gen and Cat Gen people, but I do my best to try to ignore it now and maybe they will stop
Anyway, for the record, I don't think I've ever had a personal conversation with Kari, nor did she ask me to come here. I simply saw her do nothing wrong and didn't want her to feel bad about this.
Also, I am a PET person. I happen to have and foster about twice as many cats as dogs, but I love my dogs and cats just the same and wouldn't turn my back on any animal in need.

I visit the cat side because I have cats (my mom and my sister have dogs) and I feel if I visit the dog side too then my work will really be injured seriously:) because I already spend too much time here.
So come here more often and post pics of your diluted torbie calico;) We love every pet and all our pets are the greatest.

What a LOVELY kitty :) She looks like a long haired version of my RB kitty Bassett, except Bassett had no white on her.
I would say that she is also a Domestic Long Haired Dilute Tortie. Even though it's just a colour distiction, I think torties should be a breed - they certainly have enough cattitude to occupy their own space in the breed books ;)
I hope that this mess doesn't keep you from coming back. I'm not sure why anyone got their back up here - I think everyone came here with the same intention, and that's to comment on your pretty girl :)

I don't want to add the argument or to take sides with anyone but I just felt like I did need to say that while a lot of torties I've known don't have any white on them, my beloved Scarlett, who is being raised by my mum, does have several large patches of white on her. My tortie, Neko, may have a few white hairs but nothing major, the same as Julia's Muffin and my mum's Pittypat. They look like black cats painted in spots with orange. However, like I said, Scarlett has large patches of white and Mum's Tippy has at least one white spot. It's the very tip of her tail which is how she got her name.

Thank You all for your comments, really sorry about all the friction it has caused, but everyone is entitled to there own opinions and I guess it would not be interesting had everyone not had different opinions!!!!. All post replies appreciated, at least now I have more ideas as to Chloe!

I have a solution, lets call her a caltortie!! She can be extra special :)
Who cares guys, we're all here cause we love animals, lets celebrate that, i'm sure the animals don't want us to get upset wether it be angry, or stressed cause we just want people to know we weren't trying to offend.
Chloe is gorgeous :)
LOVE and LIGHT to all!!

I have edited out some comments. This is Pet Talk, and everyone is special. I am sorry I wasn't present for the few more argumentative comments. We all love kitties, regardless of their coloring. And she is a very pretty girl, whatever her patterning is called.
The end.
Thank You!!

Thank You!! Your kitties are lovely two!!

Samantha I am sorry that you may not feel welcome. We are like a family here and although we belong together different members are having a bad day sometimes;)
I visit the cat side because I have cats (my mom and my sister have dogs) and I feel if I visit the dog side too then my work will really be injured seriously:) because I already spend too much time here.
So come here more often and post pics of your diluted torbie calico;) We love every pet and all our pets are the greatest.
Thank You!! You Kitty is lovely two, I have also posted new pics of Chloe!!

Hi Samantha! Chloe is GORGEOUS! I loooove dilute torties. I would have to agree with a few others, she looks like a DLH dilute tortie w/ white. I am no expert though. I fostered some dilute calicos before and they were the most precious little things.
Thank You!!

Thank You!!
I have 5 dogs, and 6 cats (plus 2 foster kittens), along with other pets.
but she didn't use that word, I picked it out of the air, that's why I was (and still am) confused.

Thank You!!! Your kitties are gorgeous to, I met Chloe about 3 years ago when I met my husband, unfortuantely I had always grown up with dogs but fell inlove with her when I met her!!!

Laura
Thank You Laura, Your Kitty is gorgeous to, and thanks for the help on posting more pics. I met Chloe 3 years ago when I met my husband, been my husbands cat. Unfortunately due to growing up with only Dogs I was not to familliar with Cats, but loved her in no time.
I have posted new pics of Chloe!!!
PS -
I'm a 'dog person' who only recently became a 'cat person' because Pixel wandered into my home last winter and snuck into my heart. I know squat about cats - except that Pixel is now MINE, and I love him!
