Toys, a variety.
A scratching post (or 2, or 3)
A bed or condo.
Ceramic or metal bowls.
NON-clumping litter (until he is at least 4 months old)

Welcome to Pet Talk and congratulations!
Kittens love to play. He'll need at least one catnip mouse to chase and kick and bite.
Kittens also love the wand-style toy with the feather on the end. You'll want to play with him before you go to bed and he'll sleep, too!
Also, a brush...you get him used to being brushed regularly. Hopefully he'll enjoy being brushed and you'll not have hairballs in your future.:D

My little nine-week old kitten, Shadow, absolutely LOVES the Turbo Track toy, and the Hartz toy from Walmart that has three legs, and a center with four removable long, thin arms sticking out, with things dangling from them (I can't remember what it's called). He has "killed" them numerous times, and goes absolutely nuts trying to get the ball out of the Turbo Track!
He also spent quite a bit of time this morning trying to kill a cardboard toilet paper roll that I put on the floor to see how he would react. And he'll kill socks (with or without feet in them), and newspaper, and toy catnip mice, and little balls, and anything else he can find to play with.
Oh, and the MOST important thing of all is to get him ANOTHER LITTLE KITTY to play with (preferrably his own age so they are equal in size and energy, etc.):D

Two things mine loves and don't cost a thing is the top and the ring you pull off the top to open a galloon jug of milk or water - LOVE those. Please be very careful with any string alot of toys have a string attached - as mine will chew it and swallow it if not watched so I only play with these with them and not leave them out for them to play with. Scratching post - get them trained early to use it!!! Later if you want and the kitten is real active a good idea is a laser pointer pen (do not shine in eyes) and get the ones with a battery - not a watch batteries as the batteries cost a fortune in the long run. They LOVE those and you can keep them occupied from the couch when you are tired. A shoe lace is great for them to play with. I have fun experimenting with things around the house that they will play with. They love to get in the fold up hampers. Also under my regular hamper where they will try to catch anything that walks by. Any box is examined and jumped in. Have fun!!! Debbie
