I could use some of those PT prayers you guys are always talking about!
Rizzo has been sick for about a week. She's dropped a lot of weight and has been eating a lot less, and the vet at first said she may have an upper resporatory (sp?) infection. Well, two days ago she started doing this really loud breathing thing and there was tons of nasal discharge. We made an emergency barn call and the vet came, did some tests, and at about 12:00 last night my best friend called me and told me she has strangles. (I board Rizzo at her house.)
It is a serious illness. (I freak out if she has the smallest cut!) Even though it is rarely fatal, it is very highly contageous. There are 5 horses at the barn right now, and two coming this weekend. She'll be in quarantine for a long while. We're trying to get her better as fast as possible, and I'm heading over to the barn about 5 or 6 times a day now to let her graze and hold salt over her absesses to reduce the swelling.
Please, pray for my baby. :( I can't stand to see her like this! Pray for the other horses, too. Pray that they don't catch it. I'm so stressed out right now, I don't know how I'm gonna manage concentrating in school tomorrow.
