Of course I want to start a retirement/rescue facility for older dogs when I get my own place. Here's some piccys and stories. These poor pups deserve a happy ending.
http://www.petfinder.com/fotos/IL37/IL37.2294549-1-x.jpg Sandy (M, 11 y/o) was left to be euthanized at the local animal control facility when his elderly owner passed away. When he first arrived in rescue, he weighed a whopping 85 pounds and his legs could not support his weight. He is now a very svelte 45 pounds and while a bit arthritic, he is a very gentle, sweet boy who is just looking for a home and a family to hang with.

http://www.petfinder.com/fotos/IL54/IL54.2943383-1-pn.jpg Wilbur misses his human mom very much. She saved him years ago when he was just a puppy and about to get killed by uncaring people. Full of sores, skinny but still all so loving of people, she took him in and nursed him back to health. Unfortunately he knew his mom hadn’t been feeling too well, something to do with cancer. She tried very hard to keep him but as she got weaker and could no longer live in her house, she still put all her energy in trying to find a home for him, with no luck. He is a sweet gentle dog, used to sleep in bed with someone and always having someone to kiss good-bye in the morning and to wag his tail upon her return at night. From a very sad beginning, Wilbur had the most wonderful life for the next 10 years. Be his lucky star and allow him to continue to be loved and cared for as he has been used. He will love you unconditionally and his other Mom will be so happy to hear the good news.

Her family decided she was to old for them now and dumped her. She is very sweet and friendly. Her only quirk is that she howls when she goes for a car ride. Buttons is part of our Senior Program. (see website for more info) Buttons would also like a fenced in yard.

Well it'll be at least two years until I'm out of college, than I'm hittin the rescues. I've been "watching" Buttons for a while and I think she will end up staying at her foster home. It makes me so mad when people dump their older pets so they can go get a new, younger pet.

I feel so bad for Wilbur and his dying mom,,, Now she has to spend what little time she has left feeling guilty and worried over her baby boy,,,, and he has to be so sad not being with her,,, I so hope that he finds a home or that someone will take it upon themselves to at least tell her in her last hours that he is safe and in a home,,,, even if he isnt...... she shouldnt have to die with that on her head....

that is so true, and I wish someone would start a rescue for them. I find them pretty, but many find them plain.
