Using Insecticides On My Lawn

I've discovered I have grubs (larvae) that are killing all the grass in my back yard, a patch at a time.:( I'm going to have to
get an insecticide spread all over the yard. I'll be using Scotts
Grubex granules. Anybody ever use insecticides on their lawns?

The Scotts website says it is safe for birds, bees & earthworms,
but nothing about dogs. I would like to use it in the early evening
and then keep the dogs off the grass till morning. Is that enough
time? Any advice on this?

The active ingredient in Grubex is Bifenthrin which has not been shown to be a carcinogen. So Grubex might be safe to use.

In looking up the chemical name Halofenozide; Benzoic acid, 4-chloro-, 2-benzoyl-2-(1,1-dimethylethyl)hydrazide (Whew!), there are no citations of health hazzards- yet.

There has been for quite some time a weak associative use of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid as a lawn pesticide and canine Lymphoma. Given the consequences of this cancer anything weak might be considered strong. Also phenoxy herbicides have been implicated in Scotty Transitional Cell carcinoma of the bladder.

In addition the carbamyl compounds found in the older flea and tick powders are known carcinogens.

We like having a nice lawn but not at the expense of all the critters that set foot on our grass [our cats, neighbor's cats, squirrels, birds, etc. etc.].
My husband is fantical about weeds, pests, and keeping it green. Fortunately, this website/company only sells environmentally & critter safe products....and they DO work. We get our fertilizer, slug bait and other products from them. Other companies in your area may also sell non-chemical products as well.

In this day in age I think we should all be careful about how we impact the planet and the critters that inhabit our neighborhood and yards. We can be environmentally friendly by taking the time to look in the phone book or internet to find "safe" products.

Thanks for the website, but they don't seem to have anything
specifically for the larvae eating my grass roots. Believe me, I'm
not at all a fanatic about the yard.I don't even treat for weeds.

But this infestation is killing all the grass in the yard where the
dogs love to play. This yard can't be seen from the front of the
house. I now have patchs of bare dirt, some 2-3 feet wide. I did
find a 1-800 number for Scotts and called to ask them if this was
safe for dogs. Also checked with my Vet. They say it's o.k., BUT
I have to water down the area after applying & let it all dry before
they can go back out into the yard.

It's treat it now, or treat the ground after it all dies & re-sod.:(

Guess how I'm going to spend Mothers Day ? :D
