LilEli has been hiding alot these past few days. He won't even come out to eat. I went looking for him last night and found him asleep in one of my dresser drawers. Today he came out when I called everyone to dinner. His eyes are puffy and watery and he's got an URI. :(:( I feel SO bad for him!! He won't eat cuz he can't smell the food.

I isolated him in my middle bedroom and gave him some doxicyclin. I'm going to keep him there so I don't have to chase him around my big apartment to medicate him. I've got enough doxi for at least a week or so. I'm hoping that'll knock it out of him. If not, he's off to the vet.

His ears are also a mess!! He had a crust built up in both ears at one time and I took him to the vet. The vet told me had earmites and gave me drops to give him once a week for 3 weeks. Well, it didn't work. I put some yeast infection drops that I've used for Moo to try and relieve any pain he's in.

:(:(:( He is so terrified of me I'm at a loss. I thought I made great strides in gaining his trust. Now that's all down the toilet. I don't know what else to do. :(

I'd be terriried too if my human was always coming at me to either clip my nails, shove pills down my throat or put eardrops in my ears!!:( :(

Poor LilEli!

I hope the antibiotics help soon. I'm more or less sure that they will help with the URI but I'm not so sure with the ear mites.

As to the confidence: both of my boys are extremely difficult to pill and hide under the sofa as soon as I THINK pill.... But they forgive quickly. I am sure LilEli knows you're his mom and will come back to you once he feels better. They know that it is not really bad what we do to them:)

Awww....poor LilEli. :( I sure hope he's better soon.

I agree with Barbara on him being scared. Not only does he not feel good, but he's got his human poking and prodding him in ways he's not used to, but he knows you are his meowmy and I'm sure once he's feeling better he will be right back to his old self.

Get better soon LilEli!

Poor Lil Eli. Revolution kills ear mites; that might be easier than the drops. Good luck with the URI.

Donna, I'm so sorry to hear that LilEli is sick.:( I hope the meds will work and that he'll feel better soon. I also hope that none of your other furkids will become sick. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Does LilEli like particular treats like roast beast, or sardines at all? It's so much easier to pill them when they think it's a treat instead of a threat. If he likes sardines, you can get a small can and roll the fish around the doxy and if it's small enough he'll eat it without dissecting it. I give kitties here that need meds a small piece w/out the pill, then one with the pill. If they start eating the pill one too slowly, I'll pat them and they think I'm stealing it from them, and they tend to just swallow it then. ;) The ear infection's a whole other can of worms. :( Maybe you can call area vets and see if they carry "Pill Pockets". These work well, but some cats don't care for them.

Jan,

I talked to the vet this morning. I asked him if it's okay to give him a little Benadryl. He said no, to hold off and let the Doxicyclin work. He told me that the Doxi would surely knock it out of him. I did give him a half of a Chlortrimeton for congestion. It helped. I checked Eli's ears out today and they seem better. No crusty stuff. Everytime I go into the room now he YOWLS like I'm killing him. The Doxi is a rather big pill to I just open his mouth and shove it in before he clamps down on my finger!!

I think I've isolated him from my other cats just in the nick of time. I'll die if this goes through my entire house!!!

How's LilEli today? Hope the doxy's working for him, and you haven't got any extra sized fingers from the pillings.

I had him on Doxicyclin for 5 days (100 mg/day) and finally let him out last night. He hadn't eaten in 5 days so I was worried. I broke down and bought one of those pill poppers at the vet. It worked (my fingers are greatful!). His eyes and nose are clear so I think the Doxi did the trick. Let's hope he starts eating soon.
