Alright, so for the first time since the boys adopted us, I was able to trim their claws with a minimum of hassle and bloodletting!!! bob has always been okay, he doesn't like it but well... He can handle it if it means some treats and some more cuddles afterward. Don though......... He WILL NOT submit. Every time before he would fight and hiss and snarl, trying to get away. I could usually do his front claws myself, with a lot of struggling and praying that he wouldn't mess my face up too much, but his back claws... forget it. He'd have to be wrapped in a towel, held by one person while anther strokes and distracts him so I can do his back claws. Even then... It's close. This time though, Bob complained a bit but I was able to do front and back and Don well, he sure didn;t like it but I did his front ones no problem!!! I haven't tried yet to do his back claws..... But I'll burn that bridge when I come to it:)

You have done,better,tahn I have,as I ahve abetter shot,at being an Astronaut,than trimming,the nails,of John,Rocca,or Scarppy 2.And the Others,Michael,and Roscoe,are not that bad.The Vet tells me,the trick,is to be firm,but I find,that easier said,than done.

Is it necessary to trim the back nails too? As my cats play outside too, I thought it wasn't necessary. Well, with Maya it wouldn't be a problem; but Inka

My guys are indoor only, they need to be trimmed about once a month or so. The back ones seem to grow more slowly than the front ones so need it less, thankfully:)

Congrats!
I have the same problem with Speckles. Max, all I have to do is wrap him in a towel and I can do front and back no problem. Specks came to me already declawed on the front  (why they did it I'll never know). Anyway because of that she's a biter when she gets mad. Trimming her back nails has always been a two person job....but low and behold, I was able to do them by myself for the first time yesterday. She was on her side on the couch and I was rubbing her tummy so I leaned over on top of her, quickly did the dasterdly deed on one foot, then she was gone like a shot. A few hours later I was able to get the other one.
