That's it, she sticks her foot in it. Lucky you. I've seen retrievers that lay down right on top of the dish or tip it over and try to swim in it. Some dogs just love to be in the water. Unless she tips it over I wouldn't worry about getting her fresh water every time she does it because that would be a pain. I don't know much for advice on how to stop this but perhaps getting a small automatic waterer for like a cat so she can't really fit her foot in but when she drinks it keeps coming out so she that has enough water. Some have an attachment for a two liter water bottle so it should hold enough for her.

Do you have to get her fresh water because she dumps it all out, or does she splash around in it and splash all of the water out?

A bowl with a skid-resistant bottom may help, those bowls are also harder to tip over.

Oh, Blaze does that all the time!! He LOVES sticking his feet in his water bowl, it's so funny! My best advice is to elevate the bowl a little, like maybe on a chair so Sassy CAN'T step in it!;)

LOL. Typical Retriever!

Cagney tips his over and rolls in the water.

I don't think it is that big of a deal. Just refill her water frequently.

Maggie sticks her feet in the water, usually there is something in there she is trying to get out..a piece of food..:) She's got no retreiver in her...guess she just likes the water, although she hates baths.

she does not tip her water over.when she gets her foot in it it gets all muddy(yuck).i don't think that it is healthy 4 her so i change it out a lot.

try to get a baby bath or some kind of small shallow pool type thingy so she can have a real go at water. Most goldens love to mess around in water .:)

I just got a kiddie pool and it was about $7 for a small one, there was a medium that was about $10 and a large for $28ish

Jesse used to stick her nose, yes her nose, under the water and then snort and water would splash all over! We all laughed when she did it, and she was "smiling" too. Maybe she is just being a stubborn dog and wants attention, or is a little bored(I'm not calling you a bad owner or anything, don't worry) Jesse eventually quit sticking her nose under water, so maybe it's a faze!?!?
