I've had the havahart trap set to catch a few more strays in my area.
Well this morning I woke up to a closed trap & no kitty. The food was not touched.
The only thing I can think of is there is this tiny piece of metal that connects to the foot pad that sets off the trap that sticks out like a quarter to a half an inch on the one side, maybe they touched that setting the trap off? I don't know but it appears they did not enter the trap at all, and none of the cats are too big.
It's set back up just, with that side facing the wall so they won't be able to do that again.

I really think that 2 of them are related to Jeff. They are the same size & look to be the same age and one looks a lot like Jeff but with shorter hair, the other looks like Jeff but is orange. I really need to get them to see if they too are FIV+ (and of course to get them fixed/vaccined if not).
But they are not as brave as Jeff as far as seaking attention from people.

I have had that happen, too

I tend to set the trigger so it goes off as soon as any pressure is put on the foot plate in the back. I think that sometimes I set it TOO close to the edge and a good bump on the side or top sets it off.

Do you have any stray dogs in the area? If they try to get to the food but can't reach it, they will set it off without disturbing the food.

Could be a neighbor who doesn't want you to trap could be sabatoging you. Hopefully not.

Well it's good to know it happens to others.
No stray dogs or even loose dogs in my area, hardly ever.
And all of my neighbors would love for me catch the strays as they are either kitty lovers or kitty haters. The later is sad to say but at least they support me in helping kurb the population and keeping them healthy.
