I'm so tickled with Smokey right now.

The other day my b/f IM's me while I'm at work saying "guess what smokey did?"

I say the usual "puke, poop, pee, get loose"... nope to all.

HE played with another dog!!

Now, you may be saying "so what's the big deal" but he usually barks and growls and tries to attack dogs!!! He's even growled/snarled at the neighbor dog (the one he played with when my b/f IM'd me)!!!

I'm so tickled. He let them play together (Smokey is a 40 lb lab mix 6-7 months old, playing with an older MUCH BIGGER german shephard).

So Saturday his buddy was out (they've been playing for a few days now, since I work evenings I never see it :() and I was off Sat so Josh (b/f) and I let him out (on leash) to play (there were also three other dogs out, another GS and a boxer puppy and a li'l taco dog). He played with THEM ALL for a good half an hour! EVEN the little taco dog! He barked at the new ones at first but since his buddy was there he ended up playing with them (mainly the GS's since they were bigger and better sized than the little dogs).

So, I'm tickled pink that I got to see him play with other dogs. he STILL does growl a bit at other dogs so I'll ALWAYS be cautious of introducing him to other dogs (esp smaller ones)...

I'm just wishing I could read his mind to see how to introduce him so he doesn't growl like crazy, but I guess that's just him? He did it a lot at the adoption event we got him at, but with his 'tude now Josh and I are thinking he was just really out of sorts at the adoption event because of all the dogs/people there. Or something.

anyhoo, this is just an "i'm proud of my doggy" post :)

I got some pics of him and his bud playing, forgot to bring camera out to show the other GS and the two little doggies playing with him too.

Well, that is wonderful news! I'm so happy for you, you must be so relieved! I know that feeling of anxiety when you don't know if your dog will be able to play with others well...it's scary because you want your dog to have fun but you also don't want other people to get mad at you if your dog growls or is rough or something....

Congratulations! Sounds like it's the beginning of a whole new life for Smokey!!

oh I am, now I KNOW he can be around other dogs, just gotta get him used to them first i suspect. will always be wary with him of course (either because HE might get aggressive or the other dog)

but yupupuppy i'm relieved :)
