I was sitting here and I looked out the window and saw a small dog running across my front yard. I went outside and the dog paused, but ran away from me. I went back in and grabbed a leash and some food. I went out and followed in the direction he went. I noticed some kids throwing rocks at him, which annoyed the heck out of me. I kept following him, trying to get him to come to me, but he was very shy.
Finally he ran into someone's backyard. I knocked on the door and a young woman answered. I told her that there was a dog running aroudn the neighborhood and it just ran into her yard, and I asked if it was her's. She told me she didn't know. I told her it was a small grey dog. She said "Oh. Yeah." Just then the dog ran out of the backyard and out into the street again. I said "Well, there he goes again. There were some kids throwing rocks at him. You'd better catch him." She had the most arrogant look on her face, and she just says "Uh huh." And closes the door right in my face. I waited outside her house for a while, but no one ever came out. The dog was long gone by then.
Do you think that I should go back tomorrow and get her address and give it to the SPCA? Obviously they don't care if their dog gets hit by a car, which would cost them a fine anyways, so why would it matter if the SPCA gives them a fine? The dog didn't have a collar on, so no tags, and I doubt it's lisensed. They absolutely hate that here. She could get a fine and have her dog impounded. Do you think that it's too harsh since this is only the first time it's happened that I know of? It's just the lack of care she showed...it was amazing. She didn't thank me, or even say goodbye, she just looked annoyed and slammed the door on me.
I don't think the SPCA would even do anything though. The last time this happened was back when there was a cocker spaniel on my road that raided our garbage and pooped in our yard and garden almost everyday. The SPCA didn't care, and animal control could never catch the dog off the property until it was too late. Maybe if I explain that kids throw rocks at him? I don't know.
Anyways, thanks for the vent, and any suggestions are appreciated.
