One year ago today, one of the best presents ever dropped into my lap, and my life has been completely changed since that day!
It was late afternoon (around 3:30 or 4 pm) and we went to meet Emerson for the first time. He was running around the side yard, still damp from a fresh bath. He came right up to me, and sat on my foot, and leaned into my leg, looking up with these huge eyes that were full of pleading. It was love at first sight.
But those eyes full of pleading were not full of trust. It was time to go home, and it took so much work to get him to go up into the car. He was scared silly, trembling and apprehensive of every noise. We finally got him home, but then it was the same battle to climb up the front steps. The front steps were finally conquered, but then it was going into the living room. He was petrified of every room, every smell.
But it didn't take very long! Less than a couple of days later, he was zooming up and down the stairs, and wrestling with Malone. And he fit right in, and has become etched into my life.
Emerson is such a love bug, and he loves to sleep next to me just as close to me as he can get. He loves to fetch, and chew up squeaky toys until they are shredded. He loves to go for walks, and heals almost perfectly every time. He comes when he is called, and is just the best dog a girl could ever want.
Here's a picture of the first night home:
