No. If you already have asthma, having the cat sleep with you might not be the best idea, but it will certainly not make you have asthma. There is nothing wrong with having a cat sleep with you every night. As a matter of fact, I can't sleep if I don't have a kitty in bed with me. ;)

i was a long time sufferer of cat allergies growing up and having said that, now that i am much older and have owned my own cats for almost 12 years, my allergies to them are gone and they sleep on my bed every night, so i think you are ok...(besides they keep you warm and their purrs are very soothing):D :D

Some people on PT do bathe their cats, I believe it helps to keep allergies down, so would help with your asthma, I personally donot bathe either of my cats and I am allergic to cats, but now owning two I also have found my allergy to be much better, tolerable infact.
I too should not let my cat sleep on the bed, but Lexie just wants to be there and I have not the heart to shut her out, so it is up to you,but when your asthma is playing up, it would be best to let kitty sleep elsewhere if possible, by the way welcome to PT., hope you enjoy it here and can post pics of your kitty.:)

I am allergic to cats, yet at least two are in bed with me every night. The only time I ever have asthmatic breathing is with my yearly bout with Bronchitis - and that has NOTHING to do with the cats.
The experts now say that a child exposed to cats actually have a better chance of NOT developing allergies or asthma!

The idea that eating/sucking/or swalling cat hair and it actually causing a disease is untrue.
Cat hair or dander may upset EXISTING Allergies or asthma but it will not cause the conditions.
It may appear as though the condition is caused by the animal because it would occur when the animal has visited the area.
Please note that if you swallowed or inhaled infectious bacteria whether it was on a cat's fur or paws or from fecal matter (or from any source) it could possibly turn into an infection if you have a suppressed or vulnerable immune system.
It sounds to me that you've heard a 'wives' tale' which is made mostly from fictitious beliefs.
For example, I have heard from my grandmother that a cat will suck the breath/life out of an infant and this is simply not true.
If your cat bathes himself regularly throughout the day and has a clean area to relieve himself then I would say the he is a clean kitty.
I wouldn't bother bathing kitty unless he has a problem with grooming himself naturally and has visible signs that he is dirty or if you have an allergic condition where bathing him may alleviate your symptoms.
Just remember that if kitty goes outside and comes indoor he could bring some fleas...so becareful of that.

We have at leat 2 with us every night and my daughter has one also...
I also, had bad asthma and allergies as a child up to about 17 years old...Then all of a sudden they were gone....YOU can't catch asthma from a cat...lol
Let them all sleep with you.....JUst don't move your feet under the blankets or someone could attack your feet...lol
Baby girl loves that game...Not fun when you passed out and she is waiting for any movement.

My 3 sleep with me every night. I have a hard time sleeping when they are NOT with me.
One is on my desk now asleep.. my newest fur son Morgan (lancelot) and Tucker is on the floor in front of his heater. Clayton is wandering and Shadow is in her throne room in front of her heater... The boys sleep with me every night... as a matter of fact.. I htink they HELP me to sleep.
