2 nights ago I decided on a Algie eater..

I looked for a snail, but noone around here had any in stock, had to special order them, or did not carry them, so I decided on this:

It is an dwarf albino cory. Mine looks just like this, except alot smaller. Her name is Kitty Kitty, because I love kitties AND because she has whiskers. I did attempt to take her picture, but my attempt was in vain:( Maybe soon she will stay still long enough to get a few pictures.
Does anyone know anything about these algie eaters? How can I be sure she gets enough to eat? AND since she cant reach the bottom of the tank where the debris/algie/poop falls (because of the thing that holds the filter is on a platform) and the rocks at the bottom, is there a way I can get her to the bottom, or is that dangerous to use something to prop it up? Any advice is helpful;)

PS- I also bought 3 goldfish for my other fish tank, but 1 already died. So 2 left. We will see how that pans out:rolleyes:

Albino Cory cafish are not algie eaters. They are bottom feeders and will eat food that sinks to the bottom of the tank. Plus, you need atleast 3 of them to be happy, they live in groups.

How many gallons is your tank? (I think you said it was 10 in another post, this way you could get 2 more ;) )

Becareful about what gravel you use, their barbels (I think thats what they're called) can be harmed if your gravel is to sharp or rocky.

The Albino Cory are quite hardy and adaptable, very peaceful, and they help keep the bottom of the aquarium clean by eating up leftover foods!

BTW As far as I know, there is no such thing as a 'dwarf' albino cory catfish. Sometimes petstores will tell you they are dwarfs or that they are 'jumbo' pets to get you to pay extra. :rolleyes:

But get him some food! :D He'll like that much better then algae. :)

sorry hun, but their is no such thing as a dwarf cory.
i have a green cory (corydoras or coridoras)..
They are bottom feeders, they eat off the bottom of the tank what ever the other fish dont eat.. they do.. they will sift through the rocks and pick up small snails, and uneated foods.. they are like a cleanup crew. they do better in pairs of two or more..

I have a 1 gallon tank, currently with my male betta and this cory. I want a bigger tank, but my funds wont allow it right now:( Hopefully in the next month or so I can splurge on the nice aquarium I want. I might get another cory for my small tank, just temp. so that kitty kitty will have a buddy. I wont keep them in it too long, as I know it would be WAY to small.

But how do I make sure kitty kitty gets enough food? All the extra food falls through the holes in the bottom, and beside the rocks where it cant get to it. I pulled out the rocks and filter and everything, and then let her eat all that she wanted, and she acted so hungry, she was like shaking with excitment. Kitty ate for almost 30 minutes straight without a break, before I had to stop her, because I did not want her TOO full. What should I do? Maybe put extra food into another bowl, and let it sit all day, and then move her to that tank for an hour or so a night, to make sure she gets enough?
My brother said I should not lift or prop up the bottom of the thing that holds the filter, because if she gets sucked up into the filter, she could die from suffocation. I need advice, I know NOTHING about these fish, just that they eat from the bottom of the tank.

OOps you need more then one hun, Kitty kity is called a corydoris and shes not an algea eater. We looking for an algea eater look for a plecto or a snail In my opinion I like them best. And snails are really cute :)

Yikes a one gallon? Get a bigger one as soon as you can! Do you have any plants in the tank? Or somewhere the Kitty Kitty can hide if she gets scared of your betta? Even though she needs a friend, do not cram another one in the one gallon! Just wait until you get a larger tank. (What you might actually want to do is get a larger tank, at minimum a 5 gallon for the catfish and leave your betta in the one gallon)

Don't get a pleco unless you are sure what kind it is. The ones you find at Walmart and petstores is called a common pleco and can grow up to two feet long. In most aquiriams they only reach around 11 inches to 1 foot, but they need atleast 30 gallons minimum.
