Dog Survives Having Nails Driven Into Skull

Animal Shelter Looks To Find Dog New Home
POSTED: 1:05 pm CST March 17, 2005

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A hound mix named Trucker has survived having two long nails driven into his skull by his owner, according to Kansas City TV station KMBC.

The nails were driven into his head with a hammer, according to KYTV in Springfield. The nails just missed the dog's brain and major nerves. Veterinarians were able to remove the nails, but Trucker will be blind in one eye and deaf.

Dr. Robin Toner, an emergency veterinarian, said it is the worst case of animal abuse that the workers have seen. One nail was allegedly driven into the dog's skull, and another was hammered into his cheekbone, KYTV reported.

"It's an amazing thing that he could forgive people for what they have done to him because he is the sweetest, friendliest loving dog. He kisses your face and wags his tail when he sees you. For him to be that forgiving, I don't (know) of any person who could be that forgiving. We could really learn something from him," said Melissa Sartin of the Castaway Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E) shelter.

The shelter workers named the dog Trucker because he "keeps on truckin'."

Workers at the C.A.R.E. shelter in Springfield are trying to find Trucker a new home.

According to KYTV, those who are interested in adopting Trucker can contact C.A.R.E. to fill out an application. The adoption process includes an interview and two home visits, along with the detailed application. C.A.R.E.'s phone number is (417) 865-7575.

Bless his dear heart for enduring such horrendous cruelty, and still wagging his tail. I heard that charges may not be pressed, as the piece of crap who did that to Trucker is mentally unstable (goes without saying now doesn't it). I sure hope they do persue cruelty charges, and lock up that maniac for a long time.

That old excuse is being beaten to death. If he is that mentally unstable, then he sure as hell shouldn't be allowed to roam free where he could snap on a human next time. It's funny how these maniacs are always mentally unstable or slightly mentally retarted or have some kind of learning disability, AFTER they do something this horrific. Ok, duh, they obviously have some kind of loose screws to do something like this, which means they are a danger to society if they can do something like this without warning, to an innocent animal, which could have easily been a child. How does being mentally unstable not make this his fault?

Apparently nothing. :( No one should be allowed to be free after doing something like this. I don't give a damn how mentally unstable they are. When does the "eye for an eye" rule apply if not in cases like these? I think that if you do something to a defenseless animal, you should have the same thing done to you. Maybe that would make these people wake up. What has happened to the human race? :(

I hope Trucker finds a wonderful forever home. He sure deserves it. :)

Poor Trucker. Atleast he is ok. :(

People can be so sick and cruel. It disgusts me how people can be so heartless.
