SUPPOSED big cat seen wandering around somewhere in MI...

I saw on the news today that there has been a sighting of a big cat, some calling it a cougar, in a rural area.

They caught the cat on camera and it looks NOTHING like a cougar. The fur is too long and the ears and head are shaped like a domestic.

I'm thinking it might be a Serval. It's the size of a small dog. The town's people are scared and the media is telling them to keep their kids and small pets indoors.

I hope and pray that if and when they do find the cat, they tranquilize and transfer it and don't kill it. That is IF it is in fact a cougar and not just someone's pet.

I saw the film, also. The weight estimate is 40 - 70 pounds.

It didn't look like a cougar to me, either, but far too big to be a house cat. I just looked up the Serval, and it doesn't look like one of those either. The coat was solid colors.

Something to get the newsmen running around for a few days!!

They have been talking about large black cat sightings on another board I frequent and someone mentioned seeing a large cat in Southest Michigan.

Are cougars and servals native to MI at all? If so, perhaps he/she is just passing thru.

No, although cougars are extending their territories.

The pictures shown on TV, showed a large cat - bigger than a house cat - the color was tannish. I didn't see any spots on it, like those of a serval. Some are thinking it was an exotic cat that escaped from an owner.

Oh brother! :rolleyes: Hope this animal doesn't end up blasted away like the one in California. :( If it's a native species passing through....I sure hope the critter makes it to a safe area (if there's such a thing in this country anymore).

There was a panic,in Mississauga,about ten years ago,when someone called in a Panther,and it was a very Big Black Cat,with white accents,and they almost,shot this poor scared Cat.The Lady,had,to step,in the way,to stop,them from shooting her pet.
