Does anyone know if a parakeet can travel on an airplane? I currently live in Japan. My husband is in the navy and we are going back to the states in a few years and I want to be able to take our bird with us.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I know a woman who used to live here in Florida and moved to England with her cockatiel. I don't know any more about it than that though.
Welcome to Pet Talk! What is your parakeets name.

I'm sure you can take birds on airplanes, but I'm also sure every airline has different policies. I guess it would be best to contact different airlines and ask them about their pet policies. I do know a girl who moved out of the country with her cockatiel, so yes, there are airlines that do allow birds on board. Be sure to do plenty of research on this in advance if you want to travel with your bird!
BTW, welcome to Pet Talk.

Thank you to those people who replyed to my question. I was told by someone that birds could not travel on airplanes because the pressure in the plane upon takeoff and landing, would harm them. Is this true? I really want to take my bird
(Petie) back to the states. Right now he is only about 4 months old. I let him stay out of his cage during the day. He loves to purch on my head every chance he gets. He is the sweetest bird.
