I joined the betta bandwagon! :D

Well I did it! I went to Petco today to get dogfood, some birdie supplies, and secretly, to look at the bettas :D. After pining over the greyhounds there (The MN greyhound adoption group was there today with a couple hounds), I went over to look at the bettas. I had thought to myself if none of them really stood out I wouldn't get one today, but they had some absolutely beautiful ones. After much indecision, I decided to go with this little guy! I haven't decided on a definite name for him yet, but I might name him Haiku, it popped into my head and I kind of like it :).

5 minutes later... I think I really like Haiku, let it be so :D. He already ate a blood worm (freeze dried), so he's pretty comfortable already :)

Congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of Bettas! LOL!

One bit of advice, I wouldn't feed freeze dried anything, it can cause some really nasty intestinal problems... My guys all get Betta Bio-Gold and it really brings their colors out! If you want to feed blood worms or brine shrimp, petco has them in a freezer (not freeze dried) and the bettas LOVE um!

Bio-Gold is what I got for him for his main diet. The blood worms I have always given as more of a treat on occasion. It gets so difficult to know what to do because everything I read seems to contradict everything else about what is and isn't good for them :p. I will look for the non-freeze dried when I next go ;)

I put one Bio-Gold pellet in to see if he'd show interest and he gulped it right down, so I don't think I'll have any feeding problems with him. :)

I've had lots of bettas off and on since college, I just hadn't had one since my last one passed away 2 years ago. It's nice to have one around again!

Oh, I'm just now seeing this! Your little guy is a cutie. I love his coloring. Good name also. Where do you keep yours and what do you keep him in?
