Well, by now you know about the feral momma cat that brought us Peanut Butter, Stubby, and Lucky. After she weaned her babies we didn't see her again for many many months. One day she just showed up on the front porch. Of course I immediately took her food. I should have known what was coming!

She continued to hang around and always showed up at feeding time. One afternoon she showed up with three of the cutest little babies! There was a little tortie and two black/gray long haired babies. I don't know what is was with her and the number three!

I decided not to share this bit of info with the hubby right off. I wasn't sure he could take it!;) It wasn't long before he spotted them himself and came to me with that forlorn face. Did you see what is outside? Yep. We are not doing this again, you know that right? Yep. Do you want to help me name them, I innocently asked. NO, not NO but H**L NO! Everytime I name one it comes into the house! I mean it Lisa, no more in the house! Okeydokey.:p

These little guys were a lot tougher to work with than the first three. They were very skittish and I was having a very hard time getting them to trust me. Then one day there was only two. I never knew what happened to the third little black/gray one.

Now that they were eating good their momma left for longer and longer periods of time. Soon she never came around anymore. The babies were still young and pretty much stayed on the porch and played. I was still trying to get them to trust me but not having much luck.

Late one afternoon hubby and I were watching TV when someone began pounding on the front door. I was in my jammy's so hubby went to see who it was. There was a woman on the porch, very upset, and said she had just hit one of our cats. I felt sick! She had hit the black/gray kitten and it had pulled itself into our yard. She was trying to help it but it was too late. Hubby ran out into the yard to check the kitten and it was still alive. I pulled on my robe and ran onto the porch and asked hubby if I needed to call the vet and get him into the office. Hubby shook his head and said that we would never get him there. The baby died minutes later.:(

Hubby carried him to the back yard and layed him on the bottom step of the deck. I came out the back door onto the deck and started crying. the poor little thing never knew what it was like to be really loved and my heart was breaking. Hubby headed to the basement to get the shovel and I saw the little tortie sister come around the house. She went straight to her brothers body to check on him. As hubby came out of the basement I told him to stay back and let her see that her brother was dead. She needed to know that and to grieve for him. When she realized that he wasn't going to get up again she pitifully walked back around to the front of the house. I got an old towel and wrapped the kitty in it and hubby took him to bury under a tree.

I came back inside and sat down and cried. I heard hubby coming up the stairs and the back door flung open. There was something really odd about the look on his face! He walked through the back door, through the house, and straight to the front door. I followed because I wasn't sure what he was up to. He jerked the front door open, looked at the little girl kitten and in a loud, stern voice he said, "GET IN HERE!" That little girl bolted into the house! Hubby shut the door, walked past me standing there with my mouth hanging open, went right back to his chair and started watching TV. I looked at him, and I looked at her standing in the living room, and I just was in shock! I could not believe that the kitten I hadn't been able to get close too, or even get to come near the door just jumped at his command and came right in! I'm still standing in the kitchen trying to take this whole thing in when hubby looked at me and said "I will not bury another one!"

For the next few weeks I sat in the middle of the living room floor playing "drag the shoestring" until I could pet and handle her. During that time I named her Maggie Sue. I don't know why but it just seemed to fit her.

She was thriving, having fun, and set out to make enemies from day one. She hated Stubby with a passion, and only tolerated the boys. She wanted to play with me and me only. She would have some fun with hubby but she made it clear that she wanted to be the boss of every play session. The girl fights were daily but Maggie never learned to let Stubby be. She always wants to battle for that Queen spot. I'm sure she has convinced herself that she has won!

Maggie Sue is my talker. She is always talking to me. Sometimes she yaps so much that I have to tell her to be quiet! I'm sure she is telling some tale on one of the other kitties. I could easily see her being a tattle tale and I'm sure she would remain the most innocent of victims in every story.

She is still playful

and on occasion she can be tolerant of others.

Whenever I enter the room she is in she does her "roly poly" act for me. She tucks that head under and starts rolling for attention.

She is my fat and sassy yapper! She growls like vicious dog at any kitty that gets within a few feet of her! Everyone, except Stubby, gives Maggie Sue a wide clearance.
She had a sad beginning but has taken control of her world. She's a bossy little thing, but I love her and admire her. She is a beautiful girl and she knows it.

That's the story of Maggie Sue!

Maggie Sue you have no idea how your life changed for the better after you were ordered into the house! ;) What a touching tale Lisa, but with a happy ending for Maggie Sue. I think we can all agree that hubby's a 'keeper' for sure!:D Can't wait for the rest of the stories. :)

What a touching story, Lisa!! I had tears in my eyes when I read about that lil boy....:( . He never knew what it is to be in a loving family, no; but at least the poor boy didn't die alone! He must have felt that you both were there. He got his very special burial, I am happy for him!

Maggie Sue is such a beauty!! This pic is my favorite!

Oh gosh Lisa this one made the tears flow big time. Poor, sweet little kitty. May he rest in peace.

I am really starting to love that hubby of yours. The way you described how he walked through the house, opened the front door, yelled at the kitty to get in and then just went and sat down, was priceless. But then to turn around and say, "I won't bury another one," really took the cake. I also can picture you standing in the middle of the room with that shocked look on your face. Give that man of yours a big hug for me please, okay.

Maggie Sue is so gosh darn beautiful and what a tortitude that girl has. :D

Give that beauty some belly rubs for me please.:D

I'm loving all your stories about your cats. That one got the tears flowing for me too. I love Maggie Sue's gray markings around her mouth - she LOOKS so kissable, but sounds like she's a real pistol. Your hubby definitely is a keeper! What a doll!

Look at those eyes!!! They remind me of Robyn's Emma - so big, wide and gorgeous.

Lisa - you are one terrific story teller! Now I will take of my nurse cap and pick up my English teacher glasses....I will give you an A++ on your creativity and use of language to narrate!!

Maggie Sue's story is just wonderful!! So sad for her siblings but what a new start for this girl:)

Oh and you might want to tell hubby that more and more ladies on here are really falling for him;)

What a sad story.:( I'm so glad that your hubby gave in and ordered Maggie Sue into the house. She's gorgeous.:)

After reading all of your stories so far, I have a question. Is Pete also a sibling of Peanut Butter, Lucky, and Stubby or was he from a different litter?

So glad that Maggie Sue has led a good life, after that sad beginning! She's beautiful. :) Sounds like our Leila, in her attitude - "Queen of the House".
