I finally got around to getting some pictures up of Sophia and her brood. I took one each day...first has one of the black kitten that's playing at RB. :( She's a good mother, but very protective! Downright ferocious. The babies have inherited probably herpes virus from her (oh joy) and their eyes shouldn't be open now, but infections have forced them to be. Lots of fun fishing them away from her with a net to medicate.  Two treatments, and they're already looking better. ;)

Birthday babies...and a pooped out mom!

Day #2..and four growing infant kitties. :)

Day #3, and one irritated Sophia! Looks like she's saying CHEESE!! LOL! She actually wants to remove my face!

Sophia is just protecting her kids.Maybe she'll come around.Too bad their sick and you have to risk being torn up by her to medicate the kids.I hope things are looking up soon.Sophia is very pretty.

Those are some cute kittens, and it looks like they are getting enough milk from their mom!
In that last picture, it looks like Sophia is actually smiling instead of wanting to tear your face off! She is a really good mother to be protecting her young like that.

Sadly Sophie,seems to think,that you want,to harm,the Kittens,and as aStray,probably has bad memories,of people,who were not kind,to her.Hopefully,you can help,her,to realize,that you want,the best,for her,and her Babies,and are on her side,all the way.

Ooooh Jan! The babies are too precious but that Sophia doesn't look like she's smiling to me! She sure is a beautiful girl and I hope with time she will come to trust you. Thank goodness you will be able to hold the babies and hopefully make them trust humans. Of course you're not starting off good by having to medicate them so early on!;) :D
That darn herpes virus can be a nasty one. They had two at the shelter get it and no matter how much they treated one of the kitties eyes was severely scarred. That was such a shame. I have no doubt that you can kick this thing though!:D
I would love to follow you around for a day!:)

Jan,
She's beautiful! I'm glad most of her babies survived. My little fur family are doing SO well!!! They are two weeks old today and getting very active since their eyes opened a week ago!
Be careful with the herpes virus! I can cause scar tissue to form on their corneas the way it did with MooShoo, causing him to be partially blind.
I'll post pictures once I get my computer back.

They are all beautiful, Sophia and her babies. Bless you for being so kind as to risk your own limbs to care for Sophia and her children. You are truly a wonderful person. :)

I'm going to keep Sophia and her babies in my prayers, as well as you, Jan. She does NOT look like a happy camper at all, but all of this is so new to her. She has to learn to trust, and you are the perfect person to help her get there.
Keep sneaking pictures when you can. Those babies are precious!!! :) Wish I could have one.........fat chance, though. :(

She is not smiling by any means in the last picture! It's her "prelude to a hiss" face (not to be confused with "Prelude to a Kiss" )...I know lame joke. :D The kittens eyes are staying ungummed anway, which is great! Hopefully the infection won't have any effect on their eyes. I have had newborns here in the past that get infected eyes, and Erythromicin seems to knock it out in only a dose or two, without leaving corneal damage. It stinks that they're all of six days old, and are having eye problems. Their eyes aren't even supposed to open for another 3-4 days! Today will be fun, fun, fun! Bedding change day, and Sophia will not be happy!

Good luck changing the bedding and giving meds.It looks like Sophia's eyes are sick looking also.Poor things.I feel so bad for all the cats and kittens on the streets. It's a hard life out there.Thank God we have people like you Jan to scoop them off the streets forever. It's too hard living on the streets for them.In any condition.:( Being homeless is scary.

If looks could kill, Jan, you'd be a goner!
But that little grey with white on the face is going to be MY favorite, I can tell.

I know huh? She was terrific until the kittens were born! I could pat her, and she'd actually close her eyes then. Now...well... Hormones in overdrive I guess. The grey & white one looks like Tom, from the Tom & Jerry cartoon. :D And Carla, Sophia's eyes are fine, no discharge from either...they're black with rage!  Hopefully she'll chill out again soon. ;)
