I find this a little disturbing. When I applied for a job at Petco, I was told that they are 100% FOR the animals, and they contribute to different rescue organizations. They kept emphasizing to me that the animals come first.

I've heard about Petco before... but I can tell you its not all Petcos! The one by me has splendid conditions. I am always there and have never once seen a dead animal. I am always seeing them cleaning the cages and taking care of the animals. Yes, there way be a few bad stores to give ALL the stores a bad name, but stop to think of how many stores are in that chain!

Not all Petcos are like this. There are a few members here whom work in petcos and different locations.

exactly...i've never seen a dead animal at petco. but my sister bought a hermit crab at petsmart and we thought it was dead. so we asked a ''helper'' about the non-moving, smelly animal and she just said it was sleeping; and there wasn't a water tub for them to bathe in.
so we took it home and it ended up being DEAD!!!
 :(

I have several Petcos in my area and I *love* all of them. The Petsmart in my area on the other hand VERY often has sick animals. :( NEVER have I seen a sick bird or other animal at Petco. The Petco I go to has the healthiest, most active birds. I have never had any complaints with Petco. Petco's a chain store with hundreds, if not thousands of stores around the country. With ANY company that has that many chains, there's bound to be a bad apple here and there. That doesn't mean every Petco is bad. I think they're doing excellent for such a big chain. Unfortunately, bad apples will always exist, but Petco in itself is the best pet store I have ever been to. Petsmart in my area is FAR worse.

Amy you beat me to it . It appears that new people don't look at past threads before yacking about stuff. The same happened in one of my happy threads (iditarod) Sure wish they would look around before posting.

That is a VERY upsetting website. Poor animals:(
PS- PLEASE keep in mind that slinky is a newcomer, and does not have very much knowledge of what has/has not been posted before. I am sure we have all reposted threads in the past, without looking through 84375926784 posts to make absolute sure that it has not already been done. That would take forever... Lets try and take that into perspective...
WELCOME TO PT SLINKY!! Hope that you enjoy your time here...
My name is Katie, and I am owned by the below animals in my signature;) IF you have any questions, or need any help, please feel free to PM me anytime, and I will try my best to help you:D

I walked into the Petco by me and a finch was flying around the dtore loose. When I informed the employees, they said they'ed get on it, but didn't for uite a while. The Petsmart I go to is full of people who want to talk to you about your animals, help you, pet your dogs, feed them treats, etc. The cat adoption room is alwaysoccupied w/ a voulenter to welcome you in and talk about cats.

I can only tell you that the one in Concord NH is disgusting! Dirty, smelly and the people who work there, are just "there". The one in Manchester NH is not bad. I'd rather shop anywhere else but Petco. But that's just my .02 cents.

I think I have several complaints on that website, though I can never find them. I hate Petco, but lets give a round of applause for Petsmart. I don't know about in your area, but here they really take care of their animals. I was there the other day and one employee was feeding the fish treats. Cut up whole oranges for the goldfish and koi and lettuce for some other fish. I've never even seen them give flakes to the fish at Petco.

personally, I hate Walmart. Every time I visit their pet section they always have dead fish. Dead fish *everywhere*. Theres dead betas. and Always dead fish in the tanks.
Theres 2 other little pet stores I HATE. 1 in Clarksville that has a cockatoo, female but their selling her as male, and has a deformed beak. She obviously can't eat very well with it, and its not something a vet could ever fix, but shes still up for a top price, like theres no problem.
The other place is in Rivergate and I hate them for mistreating their fish and birds too. Theres always groups of dead fish in their tanks. And they have this beautiful scarlet macaw that they keep in a tiny cage, he cant spread his wings out thats how small it is. I've been going to visit him every few weeks for the past 3 months, hes started plucking himself recently (handfed birds do that when they arent given enough attention) Its so heartbreaking, I *wish* I had the 2700$ their asking for him, :(:(:(:(:(:(
I'd love X 1,000 to have him! Hes so beautiful and fun, He loves having his tummy/chest rubbed, and toe tickles :):)
