Some of you will remember my recent post about a curfew idea going around in my city regarding pet cats, well I wrote a letter to our local paper against the idea, and it got published last night, I was suprised, as it has been a week or so since this was all stirred up, there were only two letters and one was mine, so I was quite pleased, well worth the effort to write it.:)

Good for you Carole! I am a letter writer as well and not only do *I* feel better when I do this - many times it has proven to be helpful in spreading information and promoting change. I have only written a few to the newspaper - but I write LOTS to my congressmen.:D

E-mail will never replace good old letter writing in these cases I do not think!! It is easy to delte an e-mail but harder to dismiss a piece of paper (especially when it contains a CC: to other folks too.)

I agree Debbie, I am hoping another letter I wrote regarding a TV programme is published in our TV Guide, because I have a real message I want to get across in that one., that is just as important as the cat issue if not more so.

Yep I am done with being complacent, and these day's if something bother's me enough I will do something about it, even if it is not published, it sure helps get it off your chest doesn't it?

Congratulations on getting your letter published, Carole, but that's only the first stage. I'd like to tell you a very old story about Alec's grandfather.

Many years ago there used to be a small zoo in a country park area outside Glasgow. The zoo was being closed down and all the animals had been placed elsewhere apart from the elephant. There were suggestions that the elephant was going to be put to sleep if a home was not found quickly.

Alec's grandfather thought that this was terrible, so he wrote to the newpaper highlighting the elephant's plight and expressing the hope that someone could be found who would take the elephant. Well, the letter was published, so the following day he wrote another letter under an assumed name, agreeing with his original letter and endorsing his wish that a new owner could be found. He continued doing this, and other people started to write in too. It became quite a campaign. Eventually the owner of a number of seaside holiday camps stepped in and saved the elephant!

Not that I'm suggesting that you should undertake such a dishonest campaign yourself, Carole. ;)

That was a wonderful story, if being a little dis-honest saves an animal's life then I too would do that absolutely, its like telling a little white lie isn't it lol?:)
