View Full Version : Why does she do that?

One of my cats, Sundae, likes to run out the door when I'm coming inside with the dogs. I try to put up my foot to block her, but it doesn't always work. When she gets out she always runs to the same spot, the small corner of the yard that is dirt, no grass. Before I can get to her she flops down and rolls in the dirt. She looks exactly like a chinchilla getting a dust bath when she's doing it. After she's done rolling she runs back to the house and wants desperately to be back inside (I usually get to her before that point and bring her back in myself). After the ritual she is always in need of a bath, and you all how fun that can be.

Why does she do that? Do any of your cats do that? Any ideas of how I can put a stop to this?

here is a picture of Sundae (sorry for the glowing eyes)

I dont know why she does it, maybe because she likes being with the dogs? Or just the fresh air? I dunno.
My foster kitty Sugar likes to run out also, BUT, she doesnt roll around, she runs around from tree to tree scratching and hopping. I try to keep a spray bottle with me, and I spray as I walk into the door, or when I walk out, and it usually stops her momentarily;)
Sundae is beautiful by the way:D:D:D

First off....What a BEAUTY!!! She is a very pretty girl!

I have no idea why she likes to roll in the dirt. My cats try to bolt on me and they want to roll all over the concrete sidewalk. I always figured they like the scratching on thier backs but I have no idea why Sundae would like to roll in the dirt. Maybe she's part puppy?;) :D

Maybe she thinks she is a chinchilla? Or maybe she was in a former life?

Hmmm.. she probbly thinks she smeels pretty, and you keep ruingin it by bathing her! :D

Pouncer does a similar thing... he can not resist rolling around in a fresh litterbox. No matter where he is in the house when I put out fresh litter, he is right there before I finish pouring and rolling i it before I close up the container.

Halo, Cammie and Pepper all like to roll around in the dirt and gravel ~ ouch ~
Not sure why. Maybe it's their answer to those "hot stone" massages you can get at fancy spas.

LOL that's too funny. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a crazy kitty.

Thanks Katie, I never thought about keeping a spray bottle with me, I'll try that.

She has the coat of a chinchilla, she is beautiful. Some cats just like the way it feels. My neighbors cat likes to roll in loose dirt, not sure why they like it.

There is just something, about rolling around,in the Dirt, that appeals,to some Cats, and your Cat,is one,of them! Cats, they do what they want, and want to do, what they will!
