Hey everyone,

I picked up a dog tonight on the way home, just after it had crossed the street. He was OLD (white muzzle, worn down teeth) and slightly shy around people.

I took him into AC&C, because, well, that's what I'm required by law to do. (And I volunteer there, I signed a contract that I would "set a good example.")

Anyhow, the dog seemed if if may have been mistreated, so I don't know if I'm rooting for him to be reunited. But what's the other option for an old, shy dog at AC&C?

I am so afraid he'll be pts... please send me hugs and tell me I did the right thing!

You know it's possible the old dog wandered off - my friend has an old cat that has feline-Alzheimers, she's always wandering off. Maybe this ol'guys mom & dad will be looking for him and he'll be reunited....prayers coming his way and all paws crossed. As far as him seeming mistreated, it could be that he has sight and hearing problems, too. My Sherman always ducks and gets skittery when people reach for him, and it's because he has cataracts and doesn't see very well.

you definitely did the right thing! *hugs* lol, the poor boy is safe now, he could've been hit by a car or worse out on the streets. I hope he finds his family, or some one adopts him ^_^

If he is PTS, atleast he is passing without any pain such as being hit by a car or even worse.
He's being put out of his misery the best way possible... and I bet you he'll be thanking you when he sees you again. :)

Whenever I pick up dogs that seem sick or mistreated, I generally call as many rescue groups as possible and explore every other option. Sometimes I will foster them myself. I have been a volunteer at the shelters here for 5 years and signed a contract as well, but I don't think I've ever taken any dogs to the kill shelter (even though I'm supposed to by law). I do make attempts to find owners myself most of the time. Another possibility is asking animal control to alert you if the dog is not claimed or adopted and the time has run out for the dog.

Not saying you did the wrong thing. Just offering other suggestions for next time!

You did the right thing....Once I found an OLD golden retriever who I originally thought had been mistreated...when his mom showed up to get him she told me that he had some mental problems that resulted in him being a little shy and jittery all the time. Poor old guy had just wandered until he couldn't go anymore.

Here's hoping your old fella is reunited with someone who loves him very soon.

You were right! They think he's blind. I put up posters today around the area, saying that he was turned in to AC&C. Please, everyone, pray for him! There's no chance he'll be put up for adoption.

I'll definitely keep this ol' pupper in my prayers - I'm sure his owners are worried about him, let's hope they don't give up looking!
