OMG! I am shaking as I type this. I was lunging my horse, and he hasnt been riden in a while, so he was bucking and rearing, and Maggie was chasing him. I yelled at her several times and she kept chasing him, and barking at him. I went in the house and told my sister to bring Maggie in the house or let me tie her up. I told her she was going to get kicked, but my sister just said to let her be. So, I went back outside, and started lunging my horse again. Maggie laid down beside me, and as soon as Austin started running and bucking again, Maggie went after him. Maggie got kicked in the mouth and I heard something snap. Maggie ran away yelping. My horse was going balistic and my mom was sleeping and my dad was in the house with the tv on so I didnt think anyone could hear me yelling. My mom woke up and looked out the window, and I motioned to her to come out. My sister came and leaned out the door and asked what the noise was. I told her that Maggie got kicked by the horse. My horse was still going crazy, and I didnt know what to do, because I am a little scared of horses now since my accident. I got my horse back in the pasture and my sister found Maggie to see what happend. Maggie's jaw was hanging from her lip. We called the vet, and of course nobody is open on Sunday, and the vet came in and they sedated her, and they have to sew her lip back onto her mouth. We had to leave her at the vets office untill tomorrow. I hope everything will be ok, the vet reasured us that everything would be ok. :(

How scary. I hope Maggie will be ok.

Muskwa got kicked by our neighbor's horse a few months ago. He took a good hit to one back leg. Fortunately nothing was broken, just muscle damage. He's fully recovered now.

Horses can be nasty at times. My horse (not mine anymore...sold him) bit my hand once...it was a horrible bruise. I hope Maggie is OK, we will pray for her! Good thing you were there!

Hopefully Maggie will recover fully,

Hopefully everyone learned something from this sad experience.

A Frisky Horse and a Hyper Dog are a BAD mix!!

Most horses consider a DOG to be a mortal enemy -
the Horse FEARS that it is about to be EATEN by the Dog!!

The Horse does its best to turn so that the Dog (enemy) can be SEEN
at all times... and if the Horse can't SEE the dog -
the Horse usually starts KICKING (sometimes quite WILDLY) to
drive off the "enemy".
And SOMEbody is usually gonna get HURT - most often the Dog! :(

Dogs and Horses CAN be taught to live together in relative tranquility...
but the DOG is required to:
.. Stay out FRONT and in sight of the Horse
.. NOT <bark> and <yap>
.. NOT chase or "worry" the Horse
If the Dog can't follow the "rules" -
it's best to keep Fido *far away* from the Horse.

Hope Maggie feels better soon!!

A teenage girl near here (in Ohio) was killed instantly this winter when she went to the barn to feed her horse. Her father found her when he went to check on why she didn't come back to the house. Very sad!

Best wishes for Maggie's recovery; she is very lucky to escape with a damaged jaw.

Maggie is home now and she is doing great. She doesn't seem to different but she can't play with her toys for a while. She will absolutly not go near the horses at some times.
Austin(the horse) was very frisky at the time and Maggie loves the horses and behaves very well around my sisters horse because she rides him and he likes her. Austin doesn't like Maggie and Austin was bucking and rearing and Maggie doens't like when horses do that so she went after him...Thanks guys! The prayers helped!
