View Full Version : I think there is something I never told you about Magoo!

I was petting Magoo today and running my hand down his back and tail (he does NOT like that!) I started wondering if I had ever mentioned his broken tail. I really don't think I ever told you guys!! I discovered it in the first few days he lived here and I know you all remember that at that time I had much bigger fish to fry than worry about his tail!:p
At some time his tail has been severely broken. It is right where his tail meets his back and its shaped like this >. It causes his tail to kick off to the side. It's not centered but lays over his back leg. I thought about it when I felt it again today and realized I had never mentioned it to you guys or even the vet. There has always been so much to deal with when it came to Magoo that I kind of forgot about it. His quirky little tail kind of became forgotten. The reason I'm bringing it up now is because I was wondering if this could ever cause him problems later on. Does anyone know if it can? Since it's healed does it even matter now?
I tried to get pictures but you can't walk behind the Gooster! He knows your behind him and he always turns around to face you. Little stinker!! No sneaky tricks with him cause he will catch you every time!
Of course, I wouldn't dare start a thread about Magoo without throwing in a couple of pictures. Just none of his tail.
Here he is showing off his spread toesies and panda paws.

Is he a thumb sucker? Nah, it just looks like it.

He is quite embarrassed that I'm telling about his tail.;)

Dear Magoo! You are just perfect like you are my dear boy. :) :) :) Lisa, sometimes tails are cricked at the top, and I heard that's a sign they have Siamese in them. ;) I have several here with weird tails (Lola's is downright strange) now that I've had a chance to touch her after allll these months  Magoo is still perfect in my eyes, even with his crooked tail, and his all knowing purrsonality. http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/annieiluvu.gif I adore you Magoo! And if it hasn't caused him any problems so far, I doubt it will. Just don't touch the tail!

I kind of figured it didn't matter but since I have never had that with any of the others I thought I would ask. It doesn't seem to bother him (as long as I don't touch it!)
I kind of doubt that the little monster has any Meezer in him but who knows. The way it feels I really believe that it was broken. It's not just a bend, it really has a sharp point and is shaped exactly like this >.
I try not to wonder what his life was like before but sometimes I can't help it. I just can't imgine that it was all that great.:(
We love his little crooked tail, eyeless face, and everything else about him. These things just give him character and make me love him even more!;) :D

Oh Lisa, the picture of Magoo looking like he is sucking his thumb is PRICELESS.
Crooked tail, eyeless face, it doesn't matter, we ALL still love our Magoo.
I really don't think it bothers him Lisa. I had a stray cat named Toby who had a tail like that but it was more near the middle and it didn't seem to bother him at all.

EEK! Dukesdogsmom posted a day or two ago (under Dog General I think) about a reading she had done by a psychic! Wouldn't that be so cool to do for Magoo?!!!  I've always wondered the backgrounds on so many of my rescues, and (it may be hokey), but reading DDMs post, makes me wonder. If I can scrounge it up, I'll post it here. ;)

I dare to be different... If it bothers him when you touch it, I WOULD mention it to the vet the next time he goes in and let him check it. Can't have our Gooster in pain if it can be helped. His tail is so beautiful....as is the rest of him.... Just let the vet check it out and see what he says on your next visit.

I think Magoo is the sweetest cat and so very smart to be a blind kitty. It's probably a good thing mom doesn't live close to you, otherwise she'd be there all the time playing and loving on him.
He is sooo pretty and even though I've never met him, like mom, I am love with him.

Poor Magoo...if he had been abused, I can never understand how a person could been so cruel and inhumane to a defenseless creature. He's such a beautiful kitty--what a great personality!

Jan that Pet Pyshcic thing is pretty neat. I've never heard of anyone who had actually used one before. I don't know how much I actually believe but it sounded like she did a darn good job with Duke! Maybe one of these days when I have an extra thirty bucks I'll contact her. It would be fun and interesting to see what she has to say about our Gooster.:)
Laura, I will mention it to the vet the next time we go. I just forgot about it until now. I'll let you know what he says. I really doubt it will cause him any problem but I just wondered. You know how old injuries start to bother us at a certain age, and I just wondered if that could happen to him.

Sasha Marie wants Magoo, HER VALENTINE , to know that she loves him JUST AS HE IS and wouldn't change a THING except for him not to be in pain.
I love you, Magoo!
Your Valentine,
Sasha

Nick's cat Abby has a broken tail too. When we got her she had a bob tail. Nick came to the conclusion that it probably had goten caught in some farm machinery, resulting in the break, and the loss of her tail.

Poor Magoo!
Brodie has a broken tail also . . . it kind of goes like this . . .
\/\
LOL . . . seriously, it's broken in about 3 or 4 places. It's healed but it his tail won't grow anymore. It's about half the length it should be. Only the base and tip of his tail will move, the rest is stiff as a board. We actually have to be really careful, since it doesn't bend, how we pick him up and manuver him. I pulled him back on my chest last night and his tail was straight out behind him and it bent back too far . . . he CRIED!
Broken tails are sad . . . that is one of the reasons why we adopted HIM!!! When I held him and felt of his broken tail, he was so pitiful, we couldn't leave him there at the shelter for another second! LOL

Christa I had no idea Brodie's was broken too! If I missed that somewhere then I apolgize. Poor little guy!:( It sounds much worse than Magoo's. Magoo doesn't seem to be bothered by his, at least not that I can tell. He doesn't like me touching it but I don't think it's because it hurts. I think he is just a bit ornery!;) :D

I think I've only briefly mentioned it. It's never been much of a problem. It doesn't seem to hurt when we touch it. Since he can move it at the base, the vet doesn't think he'll have any problems. And since the tip moves, there must be some blood flow through the broken part. It's just soooo stiff!
It's cute when he wags it back and forth . . . Josie sways hers like the beauty that she is and his looks more like a puppy dog tail! LOL

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
My friend has a cat with a broken tail. It's not broken where Magoo's is, but it really doesn't bother her. After a while, whether it's splinted or not, the fracture heals. Sometimes, like in humans, they can develop arthritis in the spot. But as long as he's the happy go-lucky guy that the Gooster is, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure if touching it DOES bother him, he'll let you know.
HUGS AND KISSES TO THE GOOSTER ON VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

I would tend to think it is healed and "ok" now. Of course, if it worried you, get it checked out.... maybe just ask about it at his next regular white coat appt! Remember my foster Griffin with the severely broken tail ... gave him character, but it sure felt funny when you ran your hands down his tail!;)
