First off, I read all your prayer replies to my sister Sheryl and through tears, she wanted me to thank you all so very much.

Secondly, the update.

The vet said that Tux has an enlarged heart and detected a heart murmur. She also did a blood test for heartworms. Should get the results in a day or two for that and she gave him a Cortizone shot for the water on his lungs.

He has been put on Enacard, 1mg a day for the rest of his life and is to take a low dose aspirin, 81 mg, 2 x a week.

He is 2 years old and weighs 17 pounds. He is now on a diet to loose weight. The vet wants him to loose at least 7 pounds.

Sheryl is to bring Tux back in a week for a follow up.

Have any of you had this problem with any of your kitties?
If so, how are they doing?

Poor Tuxie :( I'm so sorry to hear that he has a chronic problem. Hopefully, the meds will help the little guy. Good luck with the diet. That's a lot of weight to have to lose. Will they suggest a special diet food for him? Still praying for good lab results on the other test. Take care - Bobbi ((((Hugs to Tux and Sheryl))))

Oh dear .... so young to be having such problems. I do hope that the fluid can be cleared up quickly and his aspirin and weight loss therapies will help him out. Please know that we will continue to pray for Tux and Sheryl!;)

Oops  , my cat Sydney had a heartmurmur too. He was diagnosed with "Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy". The vet decided to wait 6 months before giving him medicine; but unfortunately, he died of a heart-attack 3 months later... . I am glad to read that Tux gets medication already!
I hope I didn't scare you to much, but this is a serious heart-condition:(

Thank you all for your replies.

I spoke with Sheryl tonight and she said that Tux is still coughing a bit, not like he was at the beginning of the week and is breathing easier. He is taking his pills very well. He is still eating & drinking well and was even chasing his brother at one point. But she did say that he seems to be sleeping more than usual.

Maya & Inka's mommy; No you didn't scare me at all and we do know the seriousness of his condition. The vet told my sister that Tux could have a heart attack, it's just a question of when..

OH Lorraine, I didn't realize that a heart murmur could actually cause a heart attack. I hope I didn't sound unconcerned, I just didn't realize the seriousness of this. So sorry! :(
