Nope, no new pictures - just some comments on my aloof little girl:rolleyes: I often mention how distant she is, does not like to be held or petted - yet she often sits staring at me with those beautiful eyes...and I want so badly to have her affection!! It is not just me either - she is simply a standoffish kitty.

Interestingly though - twice in the last week - I have been awakened by her. She will creep ever-so-softly across me and I mean really trying hard not to be noticed, and first she sat staring at my face and even put her nose to my mouth:eek: Last night, I awoke to the same thing and she was giving me a good sniffing, this time of my hair!! As soon as she knew I was awake...she bolted.

Do you think she *might* be trying to size me up?? I hope so:rolleyes: She will have her spay on Tuesday - maybe then her personality will change. Emily used to act similarly and did not become the real sweetheart she is until we got the babies.

Part of the trouble with Lizzie is that she always has Robbie or one of the other kitties and does not seem to have any use for hoomans. If I am in the recliner with a couple other kitties in my lap - she will join us...but come to a hooman? No way:rolleyes:

Brother Robbie is the complete opposite!! He's like an affectionate little puppy - always running up, comes when he is called and always ready for a snuggle:D

Dear Ice Princess Lizzie... please give your meowmie a snuggle or two! I promise you'll actually LIKE it!

As for the spay/nice thing... its been working for Abby! She has changed so much in the two weeks since her spay. She's much more affectionate and comes to me for more cuddles. Actually she NEVER came for cuddles before and she is now. I hope she continues doing this after she is fully recovered from the spay, and that its nothing to do with feeling sore from the surgery!

She is so beautiful - and those eyes - they look into your soul.

She'll come around, in her own time, and it will be worth the wait.

Josie was the opposite before & after her spay. When she was little, she cuddled a lot and was a real sweetheart. After we got her spayed, she just wanted to be left alone . . . she was a real snob like that until we got Brodie . . . now she's starting to appreciate a good cuddle again.

It's hard to tell how Lizzie's surgery will affect her. Just hope that it makes her MORE affectionate instead of less.

BTW, does Lizzie show more affection to your husband? Josie LOVES her daddy-cat but will hardly give me the time of day. Maybe Lizzie is the same way . . . maybe your hubby should start paying EXTRA attention to her . . . see how she responds.

Nope, Lizzie is an equal opportunity snob:p

Grace: I hope you are right!!! I SO want her affection, even if she would not shrink away from scritches:(

How strange! Schatzie my black kitty does the same thing. She is so terrified about being picket up that she only comes to me when I’m either lying down or sitting on the toilet.
Any other time when I reach down to pet her she shrieks and bolts.
When I’m lying on the floor very still, she comes to me sniffing my face and hair, sometimes even biting my hair.
Cats have such different personalities. Auggie is the complete opposite, fallowing me everywhere and demanding constant attention. She is my little stalker!
Hopefully with time Lizzie will become less aloof.
Rest assured that she loves you in her own way.

AWWW Debbie, don't feel sad. I'm sure little Lizzie will become a cuddle bug one day. Hopefully she will change after her spaying.
I love the way you described how she quietly sneaks up to smell you while you are sleeping. Sooooo cute.
I can't pick up my Katie girl and hold her in my arms, as she hates that. But when i'm sitting or laying on the couch, there she is laying on my chest or in my arms. Each cat has their own way and i've learned, sometimes the hard way, what each cat likes and doesn't like.

No matter how standoffish she may be she is sooooooooo BEAUTIFUL!
There is no way to know for sure if the spay will make her anymore social. They each have their own personalities and who can figure that out?! I have noticed with my girls that they are far more independant than the boys. That tends to make them seem more distant and harder to reach. I can offer some hope if she does like my girls. The older they get the more loving they become. They still aren't as "needy" as the boys but they do like small amounts of attention now. I really think that it's a boy/girl thing as well as individual personalities. Hang in there meowmie, she will mellow with age!;) :D

soo pretty!
I know how you feel Debbie, my Kylie is the affectionate one of my 2 kitties. Kloe much prefers Keegan
She doesn't normally sleep on the bed with us and I am sooo happy when she does!
I know there are sweet torties and calicoes out there - think it might be the tortieness or the caliconess? :) ;)

I guess that with those eyes, she thinks it is enough just for you to worship and admire her. Man... I would just have to grab her and love the dickens out of her!!!

Yes, it does seem that most females are more independent and standoffish than males tend to be. I guess that's the reason why I fell in love with the male cat.:)
Hopefully Lizzie's spay will help her temperment. She sure is a cutie pie and it would be hard for me not pick her up and cuddle her every day. I'm sure she'll also mellow more with age too.:)

Lizzie,is such a Princess,but I think,as do,the Found Cats,that she is a Warm,not an Ice Princess,as she makes sure,that all the Kittens eat first,at our Parteees!

Lizzie looks very much like my Ashley. And acts kind of the same too. But over the years, Ashley is warming up and LIzzie may too.

But isn't it so much sweeter when the elusive ones give you that little bit of love??

Debbie, I was just wondering how is Lizzie's sister is doing? I can't remember her name but your in laws adopted her. Do you know what her temperment is now?

Cubby is just like that. At night he does like to cuddle up to me and sometimes during the day. For the most part though he would rather be left alone. He will stare at me all day and wake me up by sniffing me as well. As soon as I wake up he leaves. :( It makes me depressed at times. Just because I want to be able to love on him as much as I want but he just doesn't want me to.

I have learned to accept it. I know he will come to me when he needs a good ear scratch or a neck rub. :D No one can give him his scratches like momma can. Lol. :)

Katie.

That is Mysty and SHE is a super lovebug!! She spends most of the day either on Grandma's shoulders or in her lap! Not fair!!! Right from the start - Mysty was VERY cuddly and sweet. Lizzie actually was pretty cuddly as a baby but always had Robbie with her so it is hard to tell.

I told her today that I am getting a new baby (an orange one) so she can just BE a snob if she wants!!:p

Katie: it depresses me too - when Lizzie is so aloof. I can't even pet her - she shrinks away like I am gonna burn her with a touch:rolleyes:

Lizzie sure is a beauty. I think cats can be as individually different as people and I have found that it can be a result of environment or more than likely just the way they are when they're born. You can have a whole litter of kittens and one little tyke will hang back, jump down when picked up, never let you catch them, etc. Some people too don't care to be hugged much, need "their space", have a wide comfort zone, etc. Maybe the spaying will help, but I think that we shouldn't take it personal. My Griffin is the same as your Lizzie and I know he'll never change. But it's OK because I know that he's happy, so I'm happy!

Debbie, this makes me feel so bad that Lizzie isn't a friendly little girl .... it's really very surprising since Josephine was such a sweetheart! :( I think maybe you are right though ... you know in all the pics, Miss Lizzie was always right with big brother Robbie ... and I think she is so attached to him that she just doesn't "need" anyone else! Maybe sometime you could keep just her alone in your room for a few days, and see what happens? If not ... I actually DO know of a couple of orangies that are available in the next 7 or 8 weeks or so!!! ;) :D

So true--my Angel is standoffish (even though he's known me literally every day of his life), but once in a great while he curls up in my lap. When he does I practically hold my breath to keep from disturbing him. :D

Cats definitely have minds of their own. I placed a kitten with a friend of mine, convinced he would be the lovebug she was looking for. But he fell head over heels in love with her other cat and didn't care to have much to do with anyone else (although he is getting more affectionate as he gets older).

My friend has her lapcat now, though--a real Velcro kitty. Interestingly enough, he's one of Angel's littermates. Go figure!

I am beginning to think its a female cat thing. Ebony came to us about 4months old. She would allow hubby to tough her after a year son could. Today (21/2yrs) She jumped up and licked my face and the curled up on my lap for a snooze. 2hours later (bladder couldn't hold it any more ) I had to wake her to move her. She has now be come the velco cat to me! I'm not the cat person in the house but latly all 3 have been cuddling me.Is it the wether or what? The males have always let me hold them .Maybe its age or the gender.

I read an interesting article some years back in a newsletter I used to subscribe to that was put out by Tuft's University (Catnip). I've noticed this to be quite true too. Perhaps the reason that beautiful Lizzie is standoffish, is because her dad was a very feral tom cat, as opposed to Robbie's dad. Several tom cats can sire one litter of kittens, and the study that Tuft's did found that kittens sired by feral males tend to be ice-princesses/princes, whereas tom cats that are friendly toward humans will sire friendlier kittens. Doesn't matter if they've never met the cat/cats, or interacted in any way...they tend to act more feral. Even raised inside, and handled from birth. That could be why Lizzie doesn't want the contact the way Robbie does. :( Hopefully that will change for the better after their spay/neuters. ;)

Just seeing this Jan!! That article sounds interesting - it seems odd though, that something environmental could be passed on??

Lizzie and Robbie are littermates, though - and Robbie is Mr. Congeniality:rolleyes: Since momma cat was a stray found wandering in a park - good chance that dad was a feral. Maybe that explains her nature. She really is the most aloof kitty I have met. I love her to death though!!:D

Brat. Ingrate! Hmmmpf....

If this kitten was bottle fed, and raised by humans that loved her...it would stand to reason this kitten would be VERY loving. Hmmm. Must be the feral fathers genetic sperm contribution. I've seen it myself...and raised bottle kittens who really don't adore us. :( Keep working on Lizzie..she isn't a lost cause! And then there's that particular newborn....cute lil' thang born to Frieda!

:D That was the thread where I saw my name and thought what did I miss??:p

Ok lady - you can just quit sneaking in that fine print because I ALWAYS read fine print!! That orangie is a dollbaby!:D But this time hubby is not even hearing my teasing. Besides, we have a nice family - for now;)

I HELD Lizzie today!! I put a warmed up insert into my neckpillow and held it against her belly and walked around with her - she just leaned right into it and relaxed in my arms. AHHH!!! Later this evening - she was on our bed and came right up to me and *licked* my nose!! I have enjoyed that part of her not feeling well:D
