HELP!!!
My Shephard has broken off 3 claws! I have taken her to the vet to have the first two removed, the vet swares shes breaking them off on something, but she isnt.. There is nothing to get caught on, and they all have come off cleanly at the root.. Does anyone know of this happening?? Is it a disease?? I am taking her back to the vet tomorrow so Im hoping to get some other opinions! Any help is appreciated!!!!!!
Thanks!!!
Jennifer:)

Jennifer,
Sorry, I have never heard of this...
Maybe you could call another vet and ask? Or maybe try the breeder you got your dog from?
Hope your little pupper feels better! Let us know what you find out!

How old is she? How often does this happen? How's her diet?

I found this wesbite about broken toenails, I didn't really read through the whole thing but I hope it provides some help for you! http://healthypet.com/faq_view.aspx?ID=38&sid=1

is the whole toenail coming off, or are they just getting chipped? Nails can get chipped by just running on hard floors, and even running hard on grass.

Muffin used to always mess up her dew claws. she didnt get them caught on anything either,, but sometimes when she came inside from playing around id notice her limping around. and would find her dew claw missing,, or torn at a weird angel to where it would stick straight up in the air. that always gave me the case of the creeps. :(

Thanks to all who responded to my post! It ends up being a big mystery.. Almost all of her claws have come off :-( But the good news is, they dont bother her and they should grow back.. I have put her on a vitamin to see if possibly its a nutritional issue.. But she is doing ok so thanks for everyones resposes!!!
