Duke went to the vet this weekend, all is fine. We just had to put him on a little diet. He's down to 118lbs would like for him to lose a few more pounds. He's now eating Nuto's special diet and really likes it.
My vet mentioned to give Duke more Glucosamine. Has anyone given some to their dog and what brand have you used? Going shopping and would like to have an idea.

My parents golden gets 1000mg of glucosamine a day.
We use human glucosamine, from Costco, or Wal-Mart.

Nutro also has a food with glucosomine in it. It works for my older dogs.

Thanks for answering. We know that Nutro has some, but was told that he needed at least 2,000mg of glucosamine. He's not getting nearly enough.

My RB dog Tigger had to have Glucosamine as well! She had to have the same amount as Duke! She was a German Shepherd X! We used the glucosamine that are found in jars and they are around $12.00 CAN, we pick them up at the Pharmacy or a drug store like Shoppers Drug Mart! :D Com'n Duke you can do it, lose that weight, what breed is Duke, because Tigger was around 75 lbs!

More than anything, the weight loss will be of enormous help! My Cody was dx with hip dysplasia at age 3 and developed bad arthritis in one hip by age 5. She was never overweight, but even so, the vet suggested she lose 5 lbs. to lessen the strain on her joints; she very active and loves to run! She's also on a glucosamine/kelp supplement rx by the vet and that along with regular, non strenuous exercise and keeping the wt. down, has worked wonders! I'm sure an over the counter glucos. supplement would be just as effective as the one my vet prescribed! Keep up the good work Duke and before long, you'll be doing great:) Sandra
