Why is DJ doing this?

We have a 1 year old Shepard mix and recently got a 12 week puppy named Bubba. We have had DJ for 5 mos. When she eats, she takes a mouthfull of food and brings to the other side of the room, chews it, goes back and does the same things over and over until the food is gone. We suspect that is maybe because she came from a shelter and had to protect her share of the food. Why does she do this?:confused:

All my dogs have always done this, even when they were "only children". I have no idea why they do it, but it's perfectly normal. :)

My older dog Smokey did that as a puppy. Now he just backs
away from the bowl a bit to chew his food. Maggie, my 6 mo old
pup stays right over her food & eats till it's gone. Some dogs do
that & some don't. Seems normal for some dogs & no big deal,
I guess.:)

Kirby does the same thing to some extent. he will get a bite of food and back off from his food container a little bit and then eat,, and does that till hes full... and sometimes he will just stand over his food container without moving away from it and eat over it.
