We have a huge problem with hairballs  I use to give Lucky & Fluffy (both long-hairs) this wonderful "treat" from IVD called Hairball treat-ment. Now they no longer make this product  Its too bad because one treat a day seemed to keep the hairballs away.

I just heard of a new type of cat food from Science Diet, its their Light food combined with their Hairball food, which is good for us because the vet wants them on the light food.

Has anyone tried this new Hairball/Light from SD?? Does it work??

What else do you all do to keep those nasty hairballs away??

I have no experience with the SD light/hairball formula. When they very first came out with the hairball formula a few years back, they only had one formula. I tried it for T & P since Tubby was horrible with hairballs. It made him constipated, so I had to stop using it. Too much fiber for an older cat I guess. Now I believe they also have a senior hairball formula....but anyway....

What I ended up using for Tubby was the Petromalt you can buy at any pet store. It's a paste that comes in a tube. Tubby loved it and would eat it right out of the tube.

I think giving the new SD formula a try would be well worth it. Just buy one smaller bag, then if they don't like it or it doesn't work to your satisfaction, you can just switch back to what you're currently using for them.

I feed my kitties the SD Hairball Light formula and it seems to work pretty well for me. We had really bad hairball issues, 2/3 pukes per day sometimes  , and now we have it down to 2/3 per week. LOL The kitties also enjoy the food and complained when I tried to switch them to something else.

I was quite surprised when I gave them the new food, mixed in with the old (that's what they tell you to do when changing foods) They ate the NEW food and the old food was left in the bowl!  Go figure....

They have only been on it for about 2 days now and so far, no hairballs. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I sure hope they don't have a problem with this food, like a dummy I bought a 20 lb bag of it! :p I'm so use to buying big bags, I never gave it a thought that they might not like it, or it wouldn't work or something. We shall see.

Thanks Lisa for that website, if this doesn't work, I will start adding mineral oil to their wet food. Worth a try.
