Glad CJ is doing better.

Well, scoot yourselves on over and make room for me!

I can't believe it's only Tuesday! This week has been a month long!!!! I have a cold so I'll mix myself a hot toddy with plenty of lemon and honey!

c-r-a-a-a-s-h....tinkle...tinkle...pwoosssshhh...

OMG you guys! Sorry about that! I was just trying to clean out the cooler so it would be fresh and clean for when the bar really opens up. I reached behind some bottles and got clumsy and knocked them all onto the floor ! Drat, now I have more cleaning to do. Isn't it amazing how the pressure from shaken up beer can spurt the beer out of the bottle without exploding the cap off? Wonder how it does that. Oh drat again, I just remembered the mop is in the L & F. Somebody come get me if I'm not back out in an hour or so.....

catland

Corinna - thats so nice to think of Lisa, I'll save a place by the fire if she wants to stop by.

I guess you've got a lot of celebrating to do Debbie. So glad for you and CJ. If you don't mind, I'm going to light a couple of candles in the window for those Pet Talkers that need prayers.

Here, let's light a fire and get this thing going in grand style.....

Let me send the Zippy-bot into the L&F for that mop!!!

Catland.....Next time just turn up the jukebox and I'll know who

And you have the honor of naming the DOTD for this week!

I was on my way to work and had a Mountain Dew on the seat...

I hit the brake, the can rolled off the seat, I just missed getting the can before it hit the console...

Whew! Glad we don't have to sneak around anymore. Sorry, Richard, it's not catland's fault, I needed a drink - bad! ;)

And the story about the beer bottles comes from my most recent experience in bringing groceries home. I obviously packed them in the back of the Tracker wrong, because when I swung the back door open, the 6 pack (that cost me $7.00!) slipped out. By the time I could catch it, 3 of the bottles had hit the ground. None of the bottles broke, one of them blew it's cap, but the other two just started foaming all over - bottle and cap intact. I never saw that happen before so I was amazed it could happen! So, I ended up with 3 bottles of beer for $7.00. Good beer, but way too much money. Next time I'll be sure and pack the beer further in so it can't fall out! Which reminds me....I need to wash that jacket before I go someplace where it wouldn't be a good thing to be smelling like beer.....;)

Speaking of beer, now that the cooler is all nice and clean, I'll take a nekid beer. Haven't had one of those in a loooonngg time. And could Peanut please have a very soothing, calming camomille catnip tea? She's going to need it in the next coming days. ;) :D

How could I forget?
I need 4 catnip teas, please.
Could you make Leonardo's a double. He had to go to the white coat yesterday. He has an upper respitory infection. He's doing great but still hasn't forgiven me, yet.

Could I have some veggie soup too? :)

OMG, MOFF, your mention of veggie soup reminded me....eeewww...

Just this last weekend I made some of my infamous creamy veggie soup, the one I had posted the recipe for awhile back. Well, Terry wanted me to make it thicker, so I did! The first night it was ok, but the second night...after being in the refrigerator.....it was just gross! It was sooo think we couldn't hardly put the spoon through it! I started to warm it up, knowing it would get runnier as it warmed. When I uncovered it the first time it was like hot lava bubbling up or something! It was like jello and it wiggled when the bubbles came up through it! It was soooo gross, but we both laughed so hard....then threw it down the garbage disposal. After seeing that neither one of us could bring ourselves to eat it. He said "Don't they make paste out of flour and water?" I said "yes, not to mention the fat from the butter and cheese...." and it was down the drain before we could think twice. :p Such a waste, but next time I won't make it quite so thick. :D

Debbie....I made that soup a couple of months ago and got the idea of adding broccoli to it. No good. It got really overdone and the broccoli got mushy and broke up all over the soup. Yuck. I also tried to freeze some for lunches. No good either. When it thawed out it got all watery. I think I'll stick to chicken soup.

Bartender....just sneaking on for a minute. Any chance of getting a nikked beer? Tanks....:)

SQUISH - PLOP SQUISH - PLOP

Sorry guys, my shoes are making funny sounds, I guess it is all of the water in them.

Sooooo, let me share with you my idea of I AM WOMAN..........I CAN DO THIS...........(pump out the basement and garage).

Got the basement down to a tolerable level - and it started to rain like - well , you know, pretty hard.

So, I race outside with my trusty pump and umbrella......put the pump in place - go find the extension cord..........plug it in..........and VOILA! Look at that, all by myself I created a living fountain of rainwater. I forgot to put on the hose to the pump.
Not only is rain pouring all over me - water is shooting straight up into the air from the pump.

What I said - out loud, could not be printed on this family friendly site.

I need a hot drink.........anything....just strong! I want you to know that I didn't get to bed until 3 AM - playing in the rain water.

But I also want you to know..........that I have realized that if this is the worst thing I have to deal with - I am way ahead of the game!

Lost and Found - HA! That's nuttin..........compared to the stuff that floated around in my basement. Where did it come from????
YUCK!

My drink, please, bartender?

shhhh, we must be vewy vewy quiet.... let's let Gini sleep in this morning Had a late night myself, talking with Phred re: road trip to WV, late call (from Eastern time it was late anyway) with West Coast. Yadda yadda... but at work bright and early - well, I'm early anyway, still deciding about the "bright" part  Anything left over in the kitchen? Quick to stir up? Need my coffee before I can tackle cooking. Oh dear, I only was able to get SOME of the decorations out of the L&F for Mario's party before I became skeered of the strange noises from there - oh, maybe that was just the noise from Gini's squishy shoes :o nevermind

Good morning Laurie...did you manage to get things sorted out with Phred? I know, I know....be quiet already. Sheesh, it's only 5:45am here...maybe I should go back to bed.

I've taken off Gini's shoes and placed them by the fireplace. Hopefully by the time she gets out of bed they will be dry. Watch that L&F Laurie. I refuse to go in there again.

How about a Colorado Bulldog? It seems like more of a breakfasty type drink. Kinda.

lbaker
01-12-2005, 09:23 AM
I'm not sure where this old Bulldog is from but:

1 1/2 ounces cherry brandy (Mario is with you so far)
3/4 ounce light rum
1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice
3 or 4 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass.

um, you can try it first PitC

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
01-12-2005, 10:53 AM
Hmmm...that Bulldog sounds like a little much this early in the morning. I think I'll start out with a coffee with some of Slick's Baileys in it. That's considered a trauma drink. The more trauma the more Baileys. :D

Laurie, I think we might need some new decorations for Mario this year since I think I saw some of them floating around in Gini's basement. Hope none of the real toxic stuff from the L & F leaked into her basement, we may have to get the haz-mat guys back here to help her clean it out! Speaking of haz-mat guys....Slick, remember the tall one, chiseled features, just a touch of gray in his side burns to make him look distinguished? Well....he stopped by my house the other day to help with cleaning up CJ's diarrhea (peeee---yew!). He said to say hi to everyone at the bar, especially you. He remembers getting stuck in the L & F with you last year. :D Also said his crew might be stopping back someday because they had such a great time. :D

It's almost 11:00 am here already, time to start thinking about lunch, so since it's trauma food day today, how about continuing with that pizza we started last week? Pepperoni and extra cheese sounds wonderful to me, with some yummy cheesy garlic bread. MMMmmmmm....M!

Home made pizza with fresh herbs of course, pepperoni with extra cheese for T&P and double sausage for Richard. Shrooms are OK but I would rather go real light if there's any green peppers (a little goes a loooong way). mmmmm, cheesy garlic bread! Now you're talking! Slicks special coffee, boy - that Baileys can be habit forming. Hey Debbie, if you see that Haz-Mat guy again ask him if his brother is interested in leading a trail ride in July ;)

Anybody know how to edit the title of a thread? Since catland's "official" Thursday 83 thread didn't fly (I saw it but couldn't respond because the dreaded boss was here) I thought I'd add the 83 to the title of this one, but it didn't work.

I don't see the DOTD's defined again Catland, but I'll take one of the second one, the one with the Southern Comfort and...?

Anybody ever have onion rings on a pizza? I think we should try it, just for MOFF. :D

Laurie, hopefully there won't be a need for him at my house anymore - hopefully - but if I do see him I will most certainly ask! Nothing like a good trail ride with an even better guide. :D

Jadapit, it's ok to sneak in, but sneaking isn't really necessary, just bust them doors down and come on in! Oh, you should probably know though, a good joke is required of all newcomers before you can get a drink....along with an ID. ;) :D

DOH - sorry about that. In honor of the crappy weather, my two DOTD choices were either

Ice Pick
1 1/4 oz. Vodka, Iced Tea
Pour over ice in a Collins or Tall glass, Garnish with lemon wedge

or,

Equal parts of; Southern Comfort & Amaretto
Layer in a pony or shot glass.

Speaking of blondes......

An Irishman, a Mexican and a Blonde Guy were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a building. They were eating lunch and the Irishman said, "Corned beef and cabbage! If I get corned beef and cabbage one more time for lunch, I'm going to jump off this building."

The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed, "Burritos again! If I get burritos one more time I'm going to jump off, too."

The blond guy opened his lunch and said, Bologna again! If I get a bologna sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too."

The next day, the Irishman opened his lunch box, saw corned beef and cabbage, and jumped to his death. The Mexican opened his lunch, saw a burrito, and jumped, too. The blonde guy opened his lunch, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as well.

At the funeral, the Irishman's wife was weeping. She said,
"If I'd known how really tired he was of corned beef and
cabbage, I never would have given it to him again!" The Mexican's wife also wept and said, "I could have given him tacos or enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much."

Everyone turned and stared at the blonde's wife. The
blonde's wife said, "Don't look at me. He makes his own lunch.”

Looking forward to it! Hmmm...hopefully Gini's backyard will be dry by then. I bet Mr. Fish is having a great time with all of this water! :p

Since we have been throwing around the idea of a horseback ride over the BBQ weekend, I thought I would supply this blonde joke to go with my WB...

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons or prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slip from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the side of the horse anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly impervious to its slipping rider. Finally, giving up her frail grip, she leaps away from the horse to try and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup and she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves. As her head is bopped against the ground, she is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune...

The Walmart manager sees her and shuts the horse off.

(this situation is actually pretty similar to one my husband had...and it was a real horse! Hence the reason he's not so fond of them...)

I've had a similar situation also, with a real horse. The horse went into water and then didn't want to keep going, so as I was getting off to lead it out ......... that's about all I remember. I found out later that the horse had a bad experience with water once. It's not as much fun riding a horse upside down

What did the blonde say when she found out she was pregnant?

Are you sure it's mine?

Hence the reason he's not so fond of them...) I had a similar experience! In Pittsburgh there is an amusement park called Kennywood. When I was real young they had pony rides there. I was sitting on the pony and the attendant slapped the pony's behind to get it going. Well it went and I could feel the saddle slip! I tried to stay on, but I fell to the side and hit my chin against the guardrail! My mom was really mad at the attendant. To this day I still have a scar on my chin (now hidden by my beard).

Grrooooooaaannn! I was waiting for the punch line and I don't know what I was expecting, but it sure wasn't that. LOL :D

As usual, I know a ton of blonde jokes, but I can't think of any right now....must be having a blonde moment.

SLICK! Since you are busy concatenating all over the place, I thought I'd repost this for you. Didn't want you to miss it.

Also said his crew might be stopping back someday because they had such a great time.

I'll have another WB! Terry called and said CJ walked within a foot of Peanut with no hissing! Now if he'll just quit with the squinty eyes at me.....;)

Oh no!! Pit and David, not very good horse riding experiences, eh? :(

I was dragged and then fell....and from what everyone else says, I kinda bounced when my foot came out of the stirrup and I landed head first into an ant bed. Talk about bad luck. Oh well, I was back to riding a few months later. :D

Horses?? In 2001 I went on a 6-day cattle drive through BC. It was really hard work but the second best vacation I've ever had. My horse's name was Sierra and she was the best...so very patient with a city-slicker on her back. But oh....that first night found me in the medic tent.....my tailbone was rubbed raw from the saddle. A few beer in the the Beer Tent though and the pain was all gone. :D

Slick, that is so neat! I always thought that going on a cattle drive or some sort of ranch vacation would be so much fun! Kind of like City Slickers! ;)
My sister fell off a horse and broke her wrist right before my wedding. She had to get pins. You would never be able to tell in my wedding pictures though! My photographer was pretty good about positioning her so her big cast wasn't showing. Even if it did, it wouldn't have mattered, because the color of it matched the bridesmaid's dresses: maroon! Blondes 'to die out in 200 years'

Scientists believe the last blondes will be in Finland

The last natural blondes will die out within 200 years, scientists believe.
A study by experts in Germany suggests people with blonde hair are an endangered species and will become extinct by 2202.

Researchers predict the last truly natural blonde will be born in Finland - the country with the highest proportion of blondes.

But they say too few people now carry the gene for blondes to last beyond the next two centuries.

The problem is that blonde hair is caused by a recessive gene.

In order for a child to have blonde hair, it must have the gene on both sides of the family in the grandparents' generation.

Dyed rivals

The researchers also believe that so-called bottle blondes may be to blame for the demise of their natural rivals.

They suggest that dyed-blondes are more attractive to men who choose them as partners over true blondes.

But Jonathan Rees, professor of dermatology at the University of Edinburgh said it was unlikely blondes would die out completely.

"Genes don't die out unless there is a disadvantage of having that gene or by chance. They don't disappear," he told BBC News Online.

"The only reason blondes would disappear is if having the gene was a disadvantage and I do not think that is the case.

"The frequency of blondes may drop but they won't disappear."

Anyone know any red head jokes????

Good Morning, Thursdays! Haven't checked the basement yet, I am just not up to it. So I decided to come to the bar instead for a big ol' BM!

Gosh, everyone here is having some kind of strange weather......either too cold, too wet, too everything.

Laurie, thanks for putting wood on the fire. Mad at you? Hee Hee, gotcha!

Work..........as a friend just told me..........you want to eat an elephant...........?? Just take it a bite at a time. So I guess I am eating elephant today and all weekend.

What a morning. Luke had to go to the white coats because he caught Leonardo's cold. Leonardo went Monday. (hides when it's med time but I AM determinded)

The car doors were frozen shut when I went to warm the car up. I finally got the one on the driver's side open but almost fell on my bum when it popped open.

Luke howled like a banshee all the way to the vet's office and all the way back. He is very unhappy with me. He got a shot to bring his 105 temp down and medicine to start tomorrow.

He is feeling better already and lying in the sun in a window watching birds. His little nose was so runny this morning, I bout drowned getting him in his carrier.

Then I changed their kitty litter and the trash bag broke open - on the bathroom carpet. SIGH!

Now, I'm cold and my nose is running too. I've had a cold for over a week myself.

I need some hot veggie soup and hot peach tea. 4 catnip teas for the kids, please. Make Luke's a double if you don't mind.

Isn't it SPRING yet?

momo - yikes, what a day. I better fill your order on the double.

Laurie - you should know better than that! Taking socks out of the lost and found - you never know where they've been.

PC - fortunately for you, you haven't experienced Mario's <ahem> little gassy problem. when you do you'll wish they smelled as good as those socks.

K9 - its warmer here but we have freezing rain in tomorrow's forecast:eek: .

Gini/Slick - great omlets:D

'Mornin.....errr....afternoon everybody! Sorry I'm so late but I've had one hellava morning already! First of all on my way to work I got stuck in an accident. Wait, wait...nooo... I wasn't in the accident, but I was close enough behind it that when they shut the road down I couldn't go anywhere. I was stuck on a bridge with no way to turn around and no side street to cut off on. Sat there for at least 45 minutes....

.....which put me 20 minutes late for a union audit I had scheduled for this morning. Thankfully the auditor wasn't that busy so he had sat in his car and waited - whew! The union is worse than the IRS, so you don't want to be messing with their auditors!

Then I just get the auditor out the door and Terry's about 5 minutes away with some customers. We have a fantastic deli right down the street from us and he wants to bring his customers there and pick me up for lunch. Can't refuse that offer so at 11:00 am, I'm off to lunch!

Get back and the boss is here, and he's NOT in a good mood because we're excavating at a job and we hit a main power line! Not that big of a deal because it's not our fault - the line wasn't marked - but still a pain in the old behind because of all the phone calls and trying to figure out what to do now that we know there's a line there. Can't be putting a transformer pad over a line.

Then we were expecting a deliver today which we hadn't gotten yet so I called on it, and the delivery got messed up and they won't be delivering until Monday, but we told the people we were going to be there Monday morning to do the job!

Fiiinnally, we got most everything figured out and the boss left - whew!

I'll take a nice tall WB to ease my nerves. Thank goodness it's Friday because if this were a Monday, I might just have to quit! ;)

Hope everyone's day is going better than mine. Oh wait, to top it all off - or maybe what started it all - Jack wouldn't eat his pill pocket this morning so I had to grab him and shove it in again. He was being so good last night and was even sitting on my lap for awhile, and now I had to go ruin his trust again. :(

Calgon, take me away!!!

How does that freezing rain work? Being down south, freezing isn't something we experience in the true sense. Is it frozen as it's falling or after it hits the ground.

PC, the way freezing rain works here in Chicago is that the cars, ground, buildings, trees, everything outside is cold, so when the rain hits these items, it freezes instead of just running off. If it was frozen as it was coming down it would be sleet, not frozen rain. Frozen rain is actually much more damaging than snow because it's so much heavier, and because sometimes on the road it turns into black ice, which is ice that you can't see, so you don't know it's there so you don't slow down so you go flying over it at a high rate of speed, so you spin out, so you hit the car in the oncoming traffic, so you get a ride to the hospital in a nice big white boxy car with pretty red lights on it. ;)

I remember a lot more freezing rain in the winter where I grew up in southern Missouri, we don't see it much in MN as it's usually too cold, so we generally get either sleet or snow. It sounds like everyone is having a hectic/crazy day today! Mine is pretty quiet and normal, though I keep letting myself get distracted from work. I need to get a move on.

After it hits the ground. What happens is that there is a cold spell so that the ground surface is below freezing. Then above it is a layer of warm air. So the precipitation goes through the warm air, turns to rain, and then once it his the ground - turns to ice.

It is evil and mean. Imagine all your streets and sidewalks turning into a skating rink. Its very dangerous to drive in. Also, it will hang on trees and break limbs and hang on power lines and bring those down as well.

Right now there's just a chance that this stuff will hit - and just a few degrees temperature change can make all the difference.

That sounds pretty bad. People in Houston can't even drive when it's dry outside, so when it rains all of the stupid drivers become wet, slippery, stupid drivers, I can only imagine what would happen if there was ice added to it. People were so dumbfounded by the snow here on Christmas eve, they decided to play in it instead of drive...thank God.

That's a good description, and really brings back some memories of the Missouri ice storms I grew up experiencing. We had one really bad one at Christmas when my grandpa was staying with us. The power went out and we had to use an old camp stove to cook with and a camping heater to keep warm. Outside off and on you'd suddenly hear this deafening *CRACK* when the tree limbs would split and go down. Definitely not fun!

Hopefully you will won't get hit with that nasty stuff!

Sugar free cocoa we have. Sugar free marshmallows? Nope. How about a baked apple? Very little butter and just a touch of brown sugar for anyone watching their sweetness intake (for health or diet reasons). LOTS of butter and brown sugar, a sprinkle of cinnamon and/or nutmeg and maybe even some raisens for the others, like me :p I've never been accused of "eating for health". I eat for yummyness ;)

Hi Laurie, yeah, I know, it is Saturday...........not Thursday, but I have cleared off this table here.............and I am ready for that arm wrestling contest right now.

Why wait until July?

Hmm, no bartender here, so I will help myself to some Bailey's to fortify myself.
