View Full Version : Peanut(s) and Cracker Jack Anyone?

Tubby & Peanut's Mom

None of these pictures are that good because he just wouldn't settle down long enough for me to get a good picture. He is relegated to the bathroom for now. Peanut has hissed underneath the door at him, but he didn't hiss back. I think he's going to work out. :D

His name at the shelter was Jack - which I don't like that much, so we're calling him Cracker Jack, which is so appropriate since he is white like popcorn with a caramel glaze on him. :D When watching the video, if you listen real close when he's behind the box, you can hear him purring already, and we've already gotten head bumpies. :D I think he's going to work out. :D

So without further ado, here is Cracker Jack.

The heat had come on and he had to check it out.

This rug was veeeerrry interesting for some reason.

He's got the cutest face. He kind of reminds me of a cross between an orange Edwina and an orange Eddie.

Oh, and he's 7 years old and his former owner died and his son was a bit slow and had to move to a "home" where he couldn't have pets. He had been at the (kill)shelter since right before Thanksgiving. He now has a new furrever home in the new year. :D

OMG, he is so cute and I love that purr!!!!!!! Welcome to PT Cracker Jack!! You may not realize it yet but you are one of the luckiest cats around to have been picked by your new family.

Debbie - when my mother found out she had breast cancer and then immediately had a mastectomy she, of course, didn't feel well and was down. One thing she craved during that time was Cracker Jack and I would constantly go to the store and take her a box of Cracker Jack. I think it must have wonderful healing powers.;) Excellent name!

Wow, isn't this a big surprise!!! I'm sitting here on the verge of tears . . . I'm so happy that you've welcomed this sweet orange boy into your hearts, after all you've been through with loosing Tubby.

I LOVE the name! I definitely see the Cracker Jack coloring! His face reminds me of Brodie's markings . . . his colored nose & white arrow above his nose . . . very cute!

If he's already purring & letting you love on him, that's a GREAT sign! I can't wait to hear how he does with our precious Peanut!!!

Congrats & WELCOME CRACKER JACK!!! I think all PT'ers are already in love with you!!! ;)

01-05-2005, 09:31 AM
Oh Phred, you always know how to get the old eyes leakin' again. <smiles through tears>

Thanks so much everyone. And none of you have to feel like you just climbed out from under a rock. I told very very very few people about this because I just wasn't sure myself. I had seen him on petfinder.com before we left for vacation. I called on him and they really didn't tell me much except that he had just been put into isolation in the sick bay for a URI. We thought that was fate because they won't adopt anyone out who is in the sick bay, so he was sure to still be there when we got home. Then I wasn't sure because Peanut has been such a little princess lately, and I didn't want to rock her world anymore than it already has been, what with loosing Tubby and then two weeks in the motorhome....but then I thought better sooner rather than later...before she gets too princessy. ;) Then I wasn't sure about Terry...or myself for that matter....but when we got to the shelter, he immediately meowed at Terry (did I mention he's a bit of a talker?) which sucked Terry in immediately. Then when the girl brought him in for us to meet him and he immediately started purring and head bumping and looking around with those big curious eyes, I just knew I had to bring him home.

There, now you all know the story, now on to the uppydate.

ARHRGHGHGH

I just can't stay away... I wanted to say one more thing..

I remember when we brought Jupiter home...
Tinky was such a QUEEN B!! ... She hissed and carried on so. We put him in the spare room and she hissed and growled under the door at him.,.. (And still does whenever I have brought the scooter bugs, Macy and Zana in... or if another cat just walks up on the porch..(

But Jupiter is such a gentleman.. He has never raised his voice at anyone. ... He is such a curious and friendly kitty... He has such a gentle character.....and Cracker Jack is bringing back such happy memories for me...

Let us know how he and Peanut are doing. What a great way to begin my morning! :D :D

Tubby & Peanut's Mom

Well....I think Peanut has been talking to Edwina.....because I woke up at 3:30 this morning to sounds that I've never heard come from my little sweetie pie! ;) She is a little spooked at everything now, but is only hissing and spitting this morning. :o And Cracker Jack? Not even the hint of a hiss back at her. :D

I was sitting in the bathroom with him last night with the door closed. Neither one of us knew Peanut was on the other side, Terry was up watching the blow out that was billed as a football game. So here's Jack and I, sitting quietly, he's exploring the crack under the door when all of a sudden we hear this horrendous HISSSSSSS outside the door! He jumped, I jumped and it was only Peanut, already imposing her mandate that she is still queen of the house! This morning, she was sitting back from the door, and did I mention Jack is a bit of a talker? Well, whenever he would meow, Peanut would hiss. Too funny. I did bring her up into bed with me and she settled down and was purring, so I don't think she's too terribly upset.

Cracker Jack on the other hand, wants out, and he wants it bad! He is so over the bathroom and wants out to explore the rest of the house. However, Peanut is not ready for that yet and I don't want to push it. They'll have the rest of their lives together, so I don't want to push things and make her hate him forever. Tonight when I get home, we will be letting him out of the bathroom and into the bedroom for awhile to give him a bit of a breather, and I did give him some catnip this morning and a few toys to play with. The bathroom is huge compared to the cage he was in, but it stills seems too small for him. :D

Oh, and we discovered an interesting thing. His previous owners were male - father(we're thinking 40-50 years old) and "slow" son(probably in mid 20's), father passed away and son went to a "home" - so Cracker Jack is so much more comfortable with Terry! Terry went in the bathroom with him last night without me, and what he was describing was not the same thing I saw when I went in with him. So we both went in together and he was so much more animated when Terry was petting him and talking to him than when I was. He even rolled over and was acting goofy with Terry! But that's ok. Bonds Terry to him that much better, and we may need that in the next few days if Peanut doesn't let up with the hissy fits. ;) :D

I only got a few pictures this morning. He really made a mess with the litterbox (typical male) so I had to use my time cleaning that up instead of taking pictures.

He's been sleeping in the carrier box they gave me to bring him home in. I laid it on its side hoping he would use it as a hidey hole, and he is, so yep Phred, looks like he's going to have his own little condo. :D
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid153/pf07e2852025b5c35f952250a5e2e5e15/f59aeea7.jpg

Here he is looking cute.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid153/pc36fde1d73279e4358e60b78410c66d2/f59aeeb5.jpg

And for lack of pictures, here are the two pictures that were on petfinder and their own website. The first one is the one that drew me in and the second one is the one that really got me.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid153/p354a945989429a17891e69c949a8a169/f59aeebd.jpg

And one more short video. No purring this time, just some skritchies. And that "spot" on his cheek is where a chunk of furr is missing. The girl at the shelter didn't even notice it until we pointed it out. We get a free check up at the vet, so we'll have to have him take a look at it.

Oh, and I really MUST get some good pictures of his tail. I love his tail!!! Towards the tip it gets stripey with white mixed in with the orange...and he's always flicking his tail....just like Tubby used to do. :D

Oh! Another thing he does with his tail is he always holds it way up and it curls around like a question mark! I've always thought that was so cute when kitties did that and now I have one! :D

All I know is Peanut better get off her high horse real soon because this boy is quickly taking hold of my heart. ;) :D

Debbie,

You're such a proud new meowmie! I love seeing how happy and excited you are with CJ. :) :) :) He's such a doll and must get used to the flashy box....we LOVE this boy already and need uppydates, um, at least daily. Did I mention illustrated uppydates? ;)

I'm sure Peanut will come around. With such a gorgeos boy around, she'd be crazy not to. ;)

I love that last petfinder picture...he's all curled up and touching his cute toes. Awww....I'm smitten already!!

That's quite cute that he's comfy with Terry too. I'm sure that's a wonderful comfort to him to have another man around. :)

In looking at that video last night, the way he walks and holds himself reminded me so much of my Jonah when he's walking around our apartment. So inquisative, but when there's someone to love, no more looking, just pets and purrs please!

I'm so happy for your fur and skin family. :)

Give Peanut lots of time to settle down. I think you are on the right path with Feliway and make sure to give her lots of extra attention.

The crumbs that you pull out of the bottom of the box stick to everything!!!!

Look at those pictures of him from Petfinder. No wonder you fell for him! And that video is too sweet! He loves those chin scritchies and can't quite decide how he wants to lay his paw! :D

Though I haven't seen any evidence of a talkative fellow! ;)

I had forgotten that one Richard! Thanks for the link too. I was trying to describe to Randi yesterday what Cracker Jacks were, don't know if she understood or not so now she can see what they are!

I've got two things running through my head. First is the 7th inning stretch song that Sara mentioned in her post, and the 2nd is this idiotic childhood nursery rhyme:

Jack Sprat could eat no fat
His wife could eat no lean
And so betwixt them both you see
They licked the platter clean!

Who in the world comes up with this stuff?! But I cannot for the life of me get it out of my head.

I noticed in the first video I posted you can sort of see how Cracker Jack holds his tail up - after the zoom in for the purring. :D

My battery is dead on my camera. Thank goodness I have a spare because it looks like I need to take lots and lots of pics tonight. :D

Oh my gosh! Debbie, you won't believe this ... but for years I never had this nursery rhyme right, and it was frustrating me! LOL!!! Somehow I must have learned it just from hearing it, instead of reading it. I learned the line

"And so betwixt them both you see" as (don't laugh)

"And so they twitched and turned you see"

Imagine my confusion all of these many years? Now I might can actually get off of my antidepressants!!!!  ;)
Pet Talk is the one-stop place to come for ALL YOUR NEEDS!!! LOL!!:D

Congratulations on the new addition to your family!:)
Cracker Jack is very handsome, my first thought when I saw his photo was that he looked like an orange Eddie.
One good thing about his fur color is that he is half white so that when he sheds it will blend right in with your white carpet.;)
I hope that Peanut gets along with him, do you think he will try to lick her all the time like Tubby did?

Now that you have Peanut(s) and Cracker Jack, when are you going to take them out to the ballgame in the motorhome?;)
(That's the song that got stuck in my head when I read the title of this thread.)

Debbie Congratulations on Cracker Jack! He's SO cute .... those eyes! the orangeness! and the question-mark tail. Mishi holds his tail like that all the time .... when he parades by with his fluffy orange question-mark tail unfurled, I often exclaim "The Plume! The Plume!" (like Love Boat's "The Plane! The Plane!"). He definitely looks like a keeper! I hope Princess Peanut allows him to live in peace with you!

I talked to Terry a little earlier - he's on the road again today - but when he gets home he is going to let Jack out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. Expand his horizons a little. I'm sure Cracker Jack will be quite thrilled. Can't wait to see Peanut's reaction. ;) :D

However, the part I found interesting was that Terry took the initiative and said that he would let Cracker Jack out. I didn't have to ask him or anything, he just said he would do it. First time since I've known him that he took the initiative to do anything with the cats besides give them treats. Way to go Cracker Jack! :D

Thanks again everyone. And yes, Richard, Tubby has left a void - a huge one! Not in my heart, but in my daily life. Nothing or no-one can take the place of Tubby in my heart, but hopefully Cracker Jack will help fill the empty feeling the house has had lately.

What I do know is that after Tubby, but before CJ, Peanut was just fuss, fuss, fuss all morning long and most of the evening too. Haven't heard a fuss out of her since Jack came home. Hissing yes, fussing no. Don't know what that means......;) :D

Ohhhh...congratulations! He's one handsome fella. Very wise to adopt a seven-year-old. Much less likely to drive Peanut to distraction. ;)

Cracker Jack, you are a lovely, LUCKY boy with a great new and expanded name! Enjoy your new family, honey, and I know they'll enjoy you. And PT will too! Prepare to be posted, kitty. :)

Now, remember to give your beautiful sister baths sometimes. It will make your brother angel Tubby smile. Even if she gets grumpy about it. Especially if she gets grumpy about it!

And not to worry Phred, I've got more CJ Tailz to tell, but I have to download, then upload the pics first!

Patience my dear, patience. :D

Just a quick tidbit. More hissing this morning from Peanut, more "no reaction" from CJ. He was eating her left over treats (that I brought into the bedroom for him) and I held the door open so they could see each other. Peanut hissed, Jack looked, Peanut hissed, Jack looked, Peanut hissed, Jack went back to eating, Peanut hissed, Jack kept eating, Peanut hissed one last time and walked away in disgust. ;) :D :D No real "aggressiveness"(is that spelled correctly? ack-who cares!) on either part, just a bunch of hissing and growling on Peanut's part. Woo hoo, what progress! :D
