Randi

We’ll start early this year. Let’s see which are your favourite threads of 2004! :)

I suggest you each post the titles, and possibly a link to the thread(s) you think are the best – up to 5 titles.

The closing date for nominations is January 17th, that will give you about 2 weeks to find the threads you want to nominate, and post them. Enjoy searching! :D

Here are the Winner threads of the year 2003! (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?threadid=46280&highlight=thread+of+the+year+2003)

Note: The thread you nominate, has to have been started in 2004!

Any questions, just ask! :)

I think the "Magoo" story should be nominated for Thread of the year 2004!

Since there are several leading up to the whole story of Magoo and his journey to a furrever home with Lisa (CCL), I've posted them here from beginning to end.

Magoo?
Feline Kruz?
Purrno?
Cat-a-lympics?

How to choose? And I've just started to remember all the different ones. Some made me cry, some laugh.. boy, this is going to be tough  But I love them all! Is this what they call "Tough Love" ;)

Don't misunderstand, didn't mean to insinuate that anyone (or I) should choose yet. Just meant if those are just the first several threads to be thought of it will be nearly imposible to pick just one :D

I know it would be more work to break it down into categories...

How's about an 'Oscar' style set of categories?

Most heart wrenching, Serious...

------------------------------------------

The thread that has stuck in my mind was the thread about Bob the cat.....I have thought about him quite often....

Randi

Yes, it's a hard choice, but only 10 can go into a poll, so the ones with most nominations will make it there. ;) Think of this as just guidelines of what members like to read - we don't have to take it that seriously. ;) However, the threads nominated the previous years were all great, and in my opinion, newcomers should read these before joining, to get an idea of what PT is all about and keep up the high standard. :D

You can each nominate up to 5 threads and you have a few weeks to choose, so I'm sure you'll find some good ones. :)

Richard, breaking the categories up like in The Oscar's could be done, but I doubt we'd get 10 nominations for each forum - well, maybe. I won't do it though, but you're welcome to have a go! ;) (perhaps you should do one for Doghouse! :D)

Your all welcome to post your opinion of this or that thread here, but please let me know if it's a nomination! ;)

I agree with the nominees already:

Magoo's story

The cat-olympics

and the Purrno thread

although any of those would make it VERY difficult to choose just one!

I thank everyone for nominating Magoo. He has been through a lot this year.

I would like to nominate

Birdie - Jan (Queenscoopalot) saved this little guy in an on going heart breaking and tear jerking thread. With a very happy ending I might add! Adopted by Catfamily (Carla and Mike)

Gabrial and Gracie - Two kittens that Jan saved and cared for until they went to their forever home with Catlover4ever.

I would also like to say that the vet wanted to put these three cats down but Jan would not give up on them. What a great lady!:D

I would also like to nominate

Lucky and Louie - Pt really came together for these two! A lot of people got involved and saved these two boys. They are now adopted and living wonderful lives with Catfamily (Carla and Mike)

Because I was "away" for several months, I missed all these great threads! This morning, I read all those mentioned here, and the Olympic thread is my absolute favorite!! The story about Magoo is very heartwarming too. This will be a difficult voting, Randi!!

I agree with everyone on Magoo's threads. I said so many prayers for that baby.. He kept me glued to the computer and still does.

Birdie comes next.. So many prayers I said for him. What a story that was! That was just one story that was heartwrenching with a happy ending (Thank God!)

and I just thought I was to attached to the story of Lucky and Louie and that it was nothing short of a miracle how the PT'ers jumped in and helped out. I am glad someone else brought that up first.

Gracie and Gabriel got a lot of my prayers too and that was just a sweet, sweet story.

Now Georgie get all my prayers.. Such a fighter!!

The two that made me cry the hardest was when we lost Tubby and Tucker...

I do not have time to find all those threads.. Almost time for me to go do my 28 days on...:(

Admittedly I don't follow the cat side much, certainly not because I don't like kitties, but purely because I can barely keep up with the doggie side. I want to pour over the threads listed later when I have a bit more time, but I'd like to nominate this very sad, but special thread that again illustrates the outpouring of compassion and understanding towards a fellow PTer during a tragic loss.

I nominate the announcement and memorial thread for our dearly departed Angus. I don't think anyone who has loved a pet could read through this thread and not shed a tear.

Richard, I was going to search for that thread and nominate it too. I don't cry a lot but I bawled harder than I ever have over Bob. I know my husband was totally shocked over how strongly I reacted to this story. I still get a pit in my stomach thinking about Bob and his short time with PIF's family.

I agree that sub-categories are really needed since there were so many noteworthy threads this past year.

I don't know how it was done before, but it seems to me it'd be a bit easier if there were 4 categories of the Dog threads, Cat threads, Pet threads, and Other threads, and a winner in each of those categories. The message board is divided up into a Dog section, Cat section, Pet section, and Other section, so it makes sense (to me) to have one thread for each section.

I'm not trying to make things more complicated, it just seemed it might be a bit easier, especially for people who mainly hang out in one or two sections due to limited time, etc. :) I'm enjoying all the threads that have been posted!

I am so touched that our Bob is remembered by other people.

Yesterday I started to make Bob’s page for my site and whilst looking though the hundreds of photos I took that week, whilst I cuddled him and I wept a river.

Every time I see Annie I feel guilty for breaking my promise to Bob to give him a furever home but he no longer needs us and she does. Annie is not a replacement, never that but a way to go on loving.

Funny how attached you can get to a beloved furkid in a few days, I just wish he had more time.

Thank you, it is lovely to think that Bob touched several lives in the short time he was here with us. I do believe in fate, Bob was meant to be with us for his last week on earth, maybe it was so he could be loved even if it was for a short time.

He didn’t die in a cage :(

Thanks for your nominations. :)

Since a lot of you have nominated the Magoo threads, but none of them in particular, I’ll put them all under one in the poll thread, namely “Tales of Magoo”. I’ll do the same with the Lucky & Louie threads, as a lot of them are overlapping. They will go under “Lucky and Louie, the tales of two cats”. I’ll put links as a reference to the title threads in the first post of the nomination thread.

Every one of you has the possibility to nominate up to 5 threads. You can choose from whichever Forum you like. I’d prefer if you could post the title in the link you nominate, so I know exactly what you have nominated. I’ll tell you how to do that below. You're also welcome to only post the title. :)

1. Find the thread you want to nominate
2. Click on the URL link of it. Copy.
. . Remember the name of the title!
3. When you have your Reply window open, click on: http://
4. Type the title of the thread in the white box, then OK,
and paste the link in you copied before in the next box that appears. OK again.

That’s it! You have the title of the thread AND the *link* in your post.

A few questions:

Catcrazylady! Could you please post the titles of the threads you want to nominate? (Birdie, Gabriel & Grace)

Laura's Babies! I also need the titles of the ones you want to nominate, please.

Jazzcat, do you want to nominate both Bob threads or just one? If so, which one?

Barbara, is this the one you want to nominate? Almalfi - the boy in a bag?

LoveMyAbbyGirl! I take it you want to nominate the same two threads as Richard! ?? I know the names.

Right now I just don't feel like crying anymore over some things from 2004. Not escapism really.. and knowing the love and care of everyone does make the heart go pitty-pat.. but I for now need to laugh and feel good and get a bit goofy. I would - at the moment at least, but we aren't voting yet  go with Feline Cruise and the ".. ready for the Olympics" which I believe ended up with Cat AND Dog entries!

Jonza - I've read all of the nominated threads - and I can hardly stop crying.

Could I suggest we actually have TWO Threads for Thread of the Year 2004? One being the normal daft, PetTalk type funny thread and the other a Pet Memorial.
It's just too difficult to choose between a funny thread and a heartbreaking thread.

Would it make a lot of extra work for you if everyone voted twice?
A 'funny' and a memorial.

Various ways of doing ” Thread of the Year” have been suggested, but my intention is to find out which ten threads from 2004 people like the best. It worked so well the previous years. :)

I’m really not up to doing it all split up. Two and four different polls have been suggested, and I imagine the discussion about various ways of doing it could go on and on …. If anyone else wants to do a "Thread of the year" for individual Forums - or whatever, please do! :)

In this one, each person can nominate up to 5 threads from all the different Forums and the ten most nominated will make it into the poll. When the voting is over, you’ll see the ten threads listed, ranking in order of popularity. You can still see which are the most popular threads from the different Forums.

So far, 18 different threads have been nominated, of which about 9 have got more than one nomination.

Tales of Magoo

Tales of Birdie

The Cruise of the Good Ship "Feline Princess" (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42305&highlight=cruise)

These aren't ALL of my favorites.:(

Randi

Since quite a few of you don't think it's enough with one poll, I'm prepared to divide them up into more. Some have suggested two .... a Serious/Sad one, and a Happy/Funny one.

Others have suggested 4 - Dog, Cat, Pet and Other.

I'd like your opinions on how to divide them, especially from you who suggested it - and the overall titles for each, and whether you want two or four.

If we choose to have two polls, ALL threads will of course have to fit into those! Will everything be covered this way? I'm not sure!

Whichever way it's done, I'll only let the ones you SAY you nominate, on the list, so please make it clear whether you nominate or not!

The subjects such as Magoo, which has many overlapping threads, I'll still put into one. We'll then have a Top Ten for each of the Subjects and/or Forums we choose.

If I don't get any responses on this, I'll just do it the way I planned to begin with, one overall poll, like the previous years - but in any case, I'll let the nomination thread run until monday 24th, so you have a bit more time. :)

Honestly, I had thought Binx was 2003. So, I think the #1 dog one should be a tie with Binx and Angus.

I thought Binx was 2003 also  I still have to go with feel good, laugh and have fun. 2004 had enough tears and fears (for me anyway). So far at least, I think I'll be going with the Feline Cruise but the voting ain't over till the Phat Lady sings :p

I suppose my Tabitha's struggle from being the last remaining week old baby to her healthy adulthood probably isn't as great an accomplishment as some of the others. But I would like to nominate her anyways. ;)

kimlovescats! You certainly can - but, what's the name of the thread?

The ones who have put the name of the thread - or a link to the one you want to nominate, goes on the list. :)

If you don't know how to do a "Search", just ask. :)

I have some personal, private ones that will forever be my own favorites (Jenny's - D-in-law - health problems , my mom) ... thanks for your reply's to some of my "trials" this year all you wonderful people. But they would not be considered "Universal" and I'm sure many of us have private "threads" as well. I still have to go with the "feel good" and will be voting accordingly.

I really hadn't seen this thread until my husband pointed it out to me.
So first let me say thank you to all that nominated my Angus's thread.
And secondly you are all so right. It does show the outpouring of love on PT and how everyone came together for both me and Mark.

So having that said I would also like to nominate Our Beloved Angus....A Friend Lost (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58012)

But let me also say that there are so many wonderful threads here and they all deserve to be the Thread of the Year:)

I'm nominating the little miracle guy "Birdie" and "Magoo". :) So many touching ones all around. ;)
One of many Birdie threads.....his name was Lil' Bit at first.

Randi, thanks for reminding me.

There were so many excellent threads last year, but when I stopped to think about it - nothing gripped my heart more than the threads about Binx and Angus. I remember sitting here just weeping over the loss of these two dogs...........and I, a cat Mom.

So, I nominate those two threads for 2004.

Almalfi now has his furrever home with Rose (the Copycat;) ) and if he had been in General, he would have touched even more hearts.

I do believe we have wonderful nominations (AGAIN this year) among the many, many wonderful threads we've read and enjoyed. A hard choice for sure. As they say at the Oscars (or whatever  ) just being nominated is an honor in itself :D Now we vote. Tough choice....
